This is an exciting time of year at Flair and we couldn’t WAIT to share it with you! The weekend of October 18-20, 2008 was Bridal Market in New York City and Flair was there to get the scoop on all of the fabulous new styles and trends.

To our fabulous brides and maids in Boston and San Francisco – here’s what’s new in 2009:

1)      Jewel Tones
Many of our designers are using rich, vibrant jewel tones in their new dress styles.   Jewel tones are dark and rich enough to flatter many different skin and hair tones. For example, while we feel that navy is always a classic, girls looking for something a little different should consider a sapphire blue. Or if blue is not your thing, try a rich purple, one of the hottest colors of the season. Look at a few examples of Jenny Yoo’s jewel tone dresses:

2)      Pleats are perfection…
This year, pleats are IN! Pleats make dresses funkier and less bridesmaidy. They hide tummies and will flatter each of your bridesmaids in every which way. This year, look for more modern pleats that do not run across the entire front or back of the dress. Just a few pleats in the middle of the front of the dress will do!

3)      Go with the flow…
Another HUGE trend, flowy fabric. Chiffon, Crinkle Chiffon, Eastern Silk Shantung, Satin Faced Organza. These fabrics make dresses more modern, chic and comfortable. Jenny Yoo’s newest collection offers a vast selection of these fabrics.

4)      Sleeves are IN!
OK, we know that you may be a bit shocked by this one, but it’s true! Though strapless dresses are still very popular, offering a cap sleeve or short sleeve offers your bridesmaid a little more coverage without compromising style. Lynn Lugo’s introduced many new styles in short sleeves. They looked amazing (even one of our Flair girls tried them on)!

We are SO excited about what we saw at bridal market and can’t wait to share them with you in person. Flair should be receiving brand new styles from most of our designers in December and January, so be sure to check back in with us so you can get in on the action yourself!

To many, marriage is considered to be the most sacred bond between two people. Marriage reflects a union that is strong, flexible, loving, and everlasting. On May 16, 2008 the California Supreme Court joined Massachusetts in recognizing the existence and fundamental “right to marry” extending equally to same-sex couples.

For years, the wedding industry has supported the celebratory union between a man and woman. What about now? Understanding that wedding planning is no picnic in the park and more importantly is brand new to California’s gay community, publications like The SF Bay Guardian, have compiled directories to help same-sex couples plan their wedding day. From your recycling bin to the cover of celebrity magazines, everyone seems to be going green. However, acting green is more than celebrating Earth Week or reading about Leonardo DiCaprio’s new 100% organic home. “It’s little things that can have an overall impact – recycle here, carpool there” says Ms. Hudson an eco-friendly event planner who has planned several green events, including weddings.

These little things have had a huge impact on the wedding industry. More people are finding creative ways to have eco-conscious weddings. Not only are eco-friendly weddings the uprising trend, they contribute to the health of our planet, and couples have also been known to save a pretty penny too! Part of planning a green wedding means finding alternatives to sustain natural resources and to minimize extravagant waste. As Ms. Hudson explains in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, “the altar floral arrangements used in the ceremony, which start at $150, can be reused for the reception [as opposed to] separate floral arrangements…the wedding and the reception can be held at the same location, saving up to $700 on limousine transportation, as well as rental fees for the space.”

Flair’s 27 Dresses

Flair Bridesmaid Boutique gives 2 thumbs up to 27 Dresses. All brides and their bridesmaids should check out this adorable comedy! Bridesmaids will appreciate the one-liner: “You can just shorten it and wear it again!”

Flair customers and staff joined together for a free screening of the movie last week at Fenway Regal Cinemas – one lucky high school student who attended the event scored an adorable Lynn Lugo dress donated by Flair (http://www.bostonherald.com/news/regional/general/view.bg?articleid=1065858). It was one of the 27 dresses donated by Flair to the Princess Project in honor of bridesmaids everywhere!

Watching this flick with a theater full of Flair brides and maids-to-be was a pleasure! Viewers “aawed” at Katherine Heigl’s long-awaited romance of her own and giggled at her ridiculous collection of bridesmaid dresses.
