Brides of Distinction!

The year is 1991, the place, my childhood bedroom. There’s excitement in the air as Teddy Ruxpin takes his place at the front of the audience of troll dolls. Ken joins the bear up front, looking as stoic as ever. Barbie comes around the corner in her fabulous, white wedding dress, complete with enormous puffy sleeves and lace turtleneck; the epitome of understated elegance. Then and there, with my goldfish bearing witness and the honorable Ruxpin presiding, Ken and Barbie pledge their love to one another. There’s not a dry eye in the house.

This, my friends, is how most of us spent our childhood days (atleast I hope it wasn’t just me, right??). We dreamt about our wedding day and made fake plans, with zero regard to budget mind you. That being said, it’s OK if you find you still need some inspiration when it comes time to actually plan your big day. Even I’ll admit that some of my 1991 ideas did not come to fruition for my 2011 wedding. Apparently Joey McInitre was just too busy to be my Justice of the Peace. C’mon, priorities Joe.

So, when the time comes that you get proposed to and you can finally plan your real wedding, I highly recommend attending the Brides of Distinction fashion show and Brunch at the Omni Parker House for some inspiration. While you sit and enjoy a delicious brunch catered by the Omni, wedding experts will dish on what’s hot in weddings this year (for example, the editor of “The Knot” will be there, and you know she knows a thing or two). Plus, you’ll get to taste some gorgeous cakes, discover what flowers are perfect for your season and see some of the wide, wide array of linen and table setting options (who knew there were so many different kinds of ivory linens??). Oh and we will be there too, showing off some gorgeous bridal gowns and bridesmaids’ dresses! Peak your interest? Contact the Omni ASAP for tickets, because they are running out quickly! We would love to see you there! Barbies and troll dolls welcome as well!

Bachelorette/Shower Party Planning Tips!

found on http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/girls?before=1311567126

Bridesmaids, this blog is for especially for you! Brides, we’re going to try and say this nicely: please go away. We love you but we’ve got some surprises to plan for you so TTFN!

OK, now that we’ve gotten rid of our lovely brides, we can get to planning their showers and bachelorette parties! Have you started the process yet? It can be difficult to do, especially when the bridesmaids are all over the country. We’ve all been on one of those never ending email chains where nothing really gets accomplished.

So annoying! Have no fear, LastBash is here! It’s a new social networking type site where you can all get together and bounce around party ideas. Once you choose your location, LastBash also can provide recommendations on local hotels, restaurants and more. Plus, once you get the guest list finalized everyone can head to LastBash to RSVP and get more info on the event. This is seriously one of those ideas we wish we had thought of, it’s genius! Check them out and kiss your party planning woes good bye! Also, be sure to clue your bride in about the site after the fact (we don’t want her peeking at any potential surprises!), so she can use it to plan an epic bash for you one day!

Happy planning and plotting!

XOXO

How Glee has changed the world….(aka the wedding world)!

Ok we’ll admit it we are major Gleeks (BIG fans of Glee)!  We have a glee calendar in the office, we listen to the Glee Pandora station daily and constantly swoon over what it would be like to have Mr. Shue (Matthew Morrison) sing a love ballad to us!

So, while breaking down this week’s amazing episode of Glee song by song, we realized something amazing! Glee truly has changed our world, the wedding world, at least in our eyes!  I mean let’s be serious no grooms were plotting and practicing a full dance routine while serenading their brides to Justin Bieber’s, “Baby” or dancing down the aisle to Chris Brown’s, “Forever” before Glee came along!

JK Wedding Entrance Dance “Forever”

Now think about this….the term, “Flash Mob”….I mean come on, Glee practically invited them.  We get an email at least once a week with a new funny and/or flash mob-ish wedding dance or serenade!

Brian’s Surprise Justin Bieber Wedding Dance for Emily

So let’s all give Glee all the respect it deserves! It truly has changed the way wedding’s work and honestly it’s wayyyy more fun and entertaining this way don’t you think?

We Found Love! Glee Proposal

This week Flair honors our very favorite show on TV, “GLEE”!  What a great episode this week and take notes boys….Mr. Shue (aka Flair’s Fav Man) truly out did himself this week by proposing in the most romantic wayyyy ever!!

XOXO

Bridal Trunk Show Featuring Junko Yoshioka!!

Here at Flair, we are constantly learning about new things; wedding related and otherwise. Siri for the iPhone, HeyTell, and guest trunk shows, for example. What’s a guest trunk show you ask? It’s when a designer who we do not normally carry hosts a trunk show (i.e. they loan us tons of gowns) in our store. I know, news to us too! We are soso excited to announce one such trunk show featuring Junko Yoshioka!

We were introduced to Junko when we went to bridal market in NYC a few weeks ago. We fell in love with their gowns and we know you will too! They are whimsical yet formal at the same time and their wide variety of silhouettes will flatter all figures. The trunk show will be February 4th and 5th, which I know feels light years away, but we think it’s going to be a HUGE hit so book your appointments early!

Give us a call to book your appointment for the Junko Yoshioka Trunk Show February 4th-5th!!

Spotlight on Katie’s Perfect Pink Wedding!

We are on a roll with some seriously gorgeous weddings!!  We are so lucky to be a part of so many wonderful bride’s weddings, and Katie is no exception.  Every time she graced us with her presence at Flair we all left with a smile on our face!! She is warm, sweet and extremely kind!  Her wedding was infused with pink and complimented her venue in the Adirondacks Mountains. Enjoy her perfectly pink wedding.

What was your inspiration for your wedding?

The color pink and the Adirondacks!

How did you tie that inspiration in to what you choose for your bridesmaid dresses/bridal gown?

Our bridesmaids wore Coren Moore silk shantung azalea (light pink) dresses, I wore an azalea Coren Moore bridal sash for the reception and the groom and groomsmen wore pink Vineyard Vines ties.  The Coren Moore dresses and my gown were a perfect fit for a day wedding in the Adirondack Mountains.

What were you looking for in your bridesmaid dresses?

I wanted our bridesmaids to look and feel great in their dresses!  Two of our bridesmaids helped me select a handful of different styles from Coren Moore’s bridesmaid collection for each of them to choose from.  Though I did not let our bridesmiads decide on the color of their dresses, I wanted them to be able to pick a style of dress that they felt great in.  When you look and feel good in what you are wearing the day is always more fun!

How was Stacey/Lindsay/Brooke most helpful?

Stacey, Lindsay and Brooke were all very helpful!  Brooke helped me each time I visited Flair, she had wonderful suggestions and ideas for outfitting our bridal party.  All three girls assisted with placing orders and notifying me when anything arrived at the store.  Everyone at Flair was incredibly friendly, accommodating and responsive.

What did you choose for your bridal gown?

Coren Moore’s Chloe Gown in ivory silk shantung.  I wore an ivory bridal sash and my mother’s veil for the ceremony and an azalea bridal sash for the reception.

How was your experience at Flair?

Fantastic!  I highly recommend Flair to any bride for both her bridal gown and bridesmaid dresses.

Where did you get married?

We were married at Sacred Heart Church in Lake George, NY.  Our Reception was at The Sagamore Resort on Lake George in Bolton Landing, NY.

What was your favorite part of the Wedding?

All of it!

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

For our honeymoon we vacationed at the Four Seasons Resort Lana’i at Manele Bay.  We highly recommend this location to any couples looking to honeymoon in Hawaii, it was so much fun!

Spotlight on Kelly & Mike’s Loving & Lighthearted Wedding!

While I love all of my brides, there is a special place in my heart for today’s bride spotlight. She has been one of my very best friends since we bonded over the amazing stylings of the Limited Too in 5th grade (no one else our age seemed to have quite the same level of appreciation…matching your scrunchie to your leggings and what not). Fast forward 15 years to 2011 and you’ll find us just as close (though we’ve dropped the scrunchies since then) and getting married 2 weeks apart. I LOVED having such a close friend going through the stressful, yet amazing, wedding planning process with me, it was such a gift.

Kelly and Mike, you were truly made for eachother and I am soso happy for you and love you both very much! I am looking forward to sharing many more milestones with you in the future (i.e. Kelly and I may have already begun planning a shared 5th anniversary trip to Sandals…)!

Without further ado, here’s a little taste of Mr. and Mrs. Coyne’s FABULOUS day

What was the inspiration for your wedding?

When my husband Mike and I started talking about our wedding, we wanted to make sure that there were aspects of both of us throughout. Our aim was to incorporate our love of music, my love of hydrangea flowers with fun, creative, and handmade details.

What were you looking for in a bridesmaid dress?

As I thought about the bridesmaid dresses, I knew that I wanted a short and whimsical dress that you would want to wear again and again.

What dress did you choose? What color?

Lynn Lugo’s Blake dress in Phlox (such a beautiful blue- looked amazing on all the girls)

How was Lindsay most helpful?

Lindsay asked a lot of questions before my initial appointment, so that she knew what I wanted and what I did not want. She pulled SO many dresses before I arrived for my appointment that it was clear that she understood my vision better than I did! Lindsay was amazing in that she gave my group her undivided attention and was patient with me as I looked for just the right color. When it was time to order the dresses, she worked with all of my bridesmaids who lived in many different states and answered all of their questions through email.

Any tips for brides when selecting their BM dresses?  Bridal Gowns?

In terms of helpful tips, when picking a bridesmaid dress, bring a couple of girls with you to the appointment, and narrow the dress selection to one or two dresses then send the selections to all of your girls- that way you are not overwhelmed by too many opinions. In terms of wedding dresses, I wish someone had told me to be open to all shapes and sizes of dresses before I started looking for my dress. I found that the consultants knew WAY more than I did about what would look right on my body and my bridesmaids body. I would have saved a lot of time and frustration if I let the consultants choose dresses for me from the beginning.

How was your experience at Flair?

Wonderful! Lindsay and Stacey are professional, friendly, and supportive. I wish I could get married again (still to Mike!) so that I could do the process with Flair again and again. I highly recommend working with Flair- they know their inventory and have incredible style!

Where did you get married?

Mike and I met at Providence College in Rhode Island. We were married at St. Dominic Chapel on the Providence College campus-best day of our lives 🙂

What three adjectives would best describe your wedding?

Loving, fun, lighthearted

What was your favorite moment at the wedding?

Too many moments- hard to pick just one! Although, I loved watching all of my closest family and friends dress up in wigs and mustaches and pick out props to enter the photobooth at the reception. I also loved dancing and singing at the top of my lungs to Mike’s college cover band during the last hour of the reception. My bridesmaids and I all threw on the cover bands tshirts on over our dresses and danced the night away!

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

Antigua- Sandal resort for 7 nights, 8 days- insane! Loved every second and would seriously consider moving there- beautiful!

What advice can you give any other Boston/New England Bride?

Have fun, shop around, start as early as you can with planning the ceremony location, reception location, dj, and photographer. Then relax a little and enjoy shopping around for invitations, flowers, and the extras. Mike and I agree- it was the little details that truly made our wedding- so don’t forget the little meaningful details. Also- only pick the girls that know you the best (how to calm you down, how to make you laugh) to be in your bridal party- my girlskept me sane and stuck by myself the day before my wedding-when I needed them the most- love them!!

Finally, please provide a list of your favorite vendors for a shout out on our blog!

Let them eat……not cake!

As I was making my grocery list this week, I realized how boring that I am. I get the same things every week. My husband and I have quesadillas every Thursday night, for example, and I bring the same lunch to work every day. So I said to myself “Self, it is time to shake things up!” I have some peanut butter left over from my insane non-perishable food shopping spree to prepare for Irene, so I decided to use that and spread it on rice cakes as a new lunch idea. OK, I know I am no Wolfgang Puck but it is a bold move for this boring grocery goer (who tries to eat really healthy during the week)!

All of this grocery business got me thinking about ways to shake up the old wedding cake routine. Granted, it is and probably always will be the most popular wedding dessert, but there have to be other options. With a little google action (and a few ideas from my own dessert loving brain) I found a few fab alternatives!

1)      Wedding barista: OK, so offering coffee at your wedding isn’t new, but imagine having a serious barista there making cappuccinos, lattes, hot chocolate and more. How impressive would that be?! Plus, the way I like coffee it’s basically a dessert in itself…

2)      Caramel and Candy apples: Since it’s October, I couldn’t resist this option. It’s perfect for fall weddings and honestly who doesn’t love those messy things? Plus, the food pyramid tells us that we need several servings of fruit a day so this is actually a really healthy and responsible choice. OK, that might be a stretch…

3)      Cake pops: Don’t want to leave the dance floor to sit down and have a full piece of cake? Have no fear! Cake pops are an adorable alternative consisting of a round bit of cake, covered in chocolate and then stuck on a stick; looks like a lollipop, tastes like cake. They’re portable, clean and delicious! Plus they’re so small you can eat like 12 and not feel guilty.

4)   Ice cream truck: The little ice cream truck jingle makes us all feel like kids again, and who doesn’t need that every once and awhile? So, later in the night have an ice cream truck pull up outside your venue and have your guests choose from classic treats that will take them back in time.

Happy sweets hunting!

XOXO

Lindsay

Spotlight on Devon’s Joyous & Bright Wedding!

There is nothing we enjoy more than hearing from our brides after their weddings. We truly love working with all of you and are so happy to see and hear how your big days went! Plus, the photos are always gorgeous eye candy, and today is no exception! Today’s bride spotlight is on Devon, a super sweet Flair bride.  Devon earned an A+ from Flair for being an uber prepared bride (ahem, future Flair brides take note). She contacted us in advance of her appointment and gave us a really good idea of what she was looking for. She even had a list of favorites from our designer’s websites, which is a huge help. Basically, Devon wanted something a little unique and something that her girls could wear again, and I think we hit the nail on the head! Check out her helpful comments below and as well as some absolutely stunning photos from her July wedding. Thanks and congrats Devon, you were an absolute joy to work with and we hope to see you and your girls again in the future!

What was the inspiration for your wedding?

We wanted our wedding to be JOYFUL. To us, joy is being surrounded by the people we love most, who come from many parts of our lives. We chose an intimate Vermont Inn for our wedding site because this setting allowed us all to spend the weekend together in one place.  We had the Inn entirely to ourselves and filled every room!  Joy for us is also fun and games. We had a wiffle ball tournament, a road race, and all sorts of yard games. We love these activities, and they also provided a fun way for people to get to know each other over the course of the weekend.  When I see bright colors, I immediately feel a sense of increased happiness and cheer. For our wedding colors, the inspiration came for a brightly colored scarf that my mom always wore on special occasions when we were growing up. This scarf has white background covered in large, vibrant hot pink, orange, red, yellow, and purple flowers with Kelly green leaves, and I carried it with me throughout the wedding planning process to make sure the colors I was choosing met my criteria for “joyful.”

What were you looking for in a bridesmaid dress?

I wanted a dress that the girls could wear again and that was not the classic cookie-cutter bridesmaid dress. So many dresses all looked “the same” and I wanted the girls to have something unique. Additionally, it was very important to me to find a dress that the girls actually liked, that flattered everyone, and that they would be comfortable dancing in.

What dress did you choose? What color?

Siri Bali dress in popsicle!

How was Lindsay most helpful?

So many ways…where to start? Lindsay was super organized! She knew her stuff, and went out of her way to be sure that our experience at Flair was highly personal. I traveled from Burlington, VT to visit Flair and before my trip, Lindsay had been really clear with me about what styles they had in stock by what designers and in what colors so that my trip was worthwhile. Beyond that, we ended up choosing a dress that was not even on my list to look at, so although all her legwork was “for nothing,” she was still SUPER accommodating, patient, and friendly! Furthermore, when scheduling prevented us from all coming to one appointment, Lindsay finagled the schedule so that I was able to have three appointments within 2 hours to get all of the girls in to try things on.

Any tips for brides when selecting their BM dresses?  Bridal Gowns?

DO get started early. Feeling rushed is no fun! Also, for all the online scoping out of dresses that I did, you never know until you actually get yourself or your girls into a dress. The logistics of getting people to try things on can be nightmarish, but it’s worth it!

How was your experience at Flair?

Fabulous!

Where did you get married?

Quechee Inn at Marshland Farm, Quechee, VT

What three adjectives would best describe your wedding?

JOYOUS, BRIGHT, Relaxed

What was your favorite moment at the wedding?

Listening to my husband read his vows to me!

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

Quebec City, Quebec

What advice can you give any other Boston/New England Bride?

When deciding whom you would like to be a bridesmaid, ask yourself, “Which of the wonderful women in my life will be able to support me best on my wedding day?” I could not have asked for more loving, helpful, and fun bridesmaids! They bent over backwards to make the whole build up to our big day special—throwing showers and bachelorette events that were tailored just for me, and remaining unbelievably patient as I sent them thousands of neurotic emails telling them things that they could not possibly have cared about. Furthermore, on my big day they made things that could have been stressful into hilarious jokes. For example, the lovely buttons on the back of my dress were absolutely impossible to fasten and we were running rather late. Instead of stressing out, my girls started doing some cheers while my sister fought with the buttonholes. Every other day of your life is a good time to be in a balanced, give-and-take reciprocal relationship with the women you love, but onyour wedding day, it is all about you. Friends and family who understand and embrace this make the day that much more magical.
