To Spend or Not to Spend??

As any bride can tell you, this is a tough question! Throughout my wedding planning process (spanning the past 14 long months) I’ve had to ask myself, what is worth splurging on and what is not? I think it’s different for everyone. For me, I decided to cut corners on ceremony programs and calligraphy, among other things. I’m sure some of you would gasp in horror at the white address labels on my invitations but to me it really wasn’t a huge deal and it saved me some much needed moolah. Same with the programs, does anyone really read or keep them? I could just see myself taking scarce time and money to create the programs, only to see them left on the church pews. Not happening.

Some things I did splurge on? Almost everything else really! Just kidding (sort of). Seriously though, my main concerns were the venue, bridal gown and bridesmaids’ dresses. I figure if I look good, my girls look good, and the venue is amazing, that’s all anyone will remember, right? OK maybe there are some other important details (the groom I suppose, but they have it so easy – slap on a tux and they all look like 007), but these were my big three. I still cut some corners for my bridesmaids though, allowing them to wear whatever black shoes they want. Hopefully most of them already have something they can wear and if not, they don’t mind investing in a black pair of their choice. So, think about that when you’re choosing your girls’ dresses. Fall in love with a dress that’s a little pricier than you’d like? Splurge on the dress (what people remember most) and consider being lax on the shoes or even hair/makeup (i.e. maybe allow the girls to do their own makeup/hair if they like, to save some money). As for you brides, always splurge on yourself. The sparkly Christian Louboutins patiently waiting in my closet are proof positive that I did!

To Market We Go!! Spring Edition!

I took a trip to bridal market in NYC this past weekend and had such an amazing time! I just love getting face time with some of my favorite designers (wish I could have seen everyone!) and chatting with them about what’s to come in the exciting world of bridal gowns/bridesmaids’ dresses. I saw two huge trends there that I just had to come home and immediately share with my Flair friends.
1.  Fabulous faille: I’m sure most of you are scratching your heads right about now. What the heck is faille, you ask? Well, it’s a gorgeous fabric that one of our fav designers, Coren Moore, has just started working with again. It’s a really rich looking fabric, with a gorgeous sheen. It photographs beautifully and is a super reasonable price point.

Plus, it comes in these crazy beautiful colors, there’s really something for everyone! Flair has ordered a faille dress for the store and we can’t wait to start sharing it with you. It might just be the next big thing in fabrics!

2. Party dresses
When it comes time to choose a bridal gown, every girl gets a little Cinderella in her. It is so hard to resist those gorgeous ballgowns! After all, when else are you going to be able to justify wearing something that elaborate?

When it comes time to boogie down at the reception though, you may not appreciate that no one can shimmy too near to you because of that huge, albeit gorgeous, skirt. If you consult your inner diva I’m sure she will tell you: get two dresses girl! You can get that fantasy ballgown for the ceremony and the first part of the reception, but as the night goes on you do a quick costume change into a cute little number designed for dancing the night away. You’ll blow your audience/guests away!
We can’t wait for fall market when we can get you more insider tips. For now though, come and see us in the store and we’ll impart more wisdom in person.

See you soon beautiful brides and bridesmaids!

Appointment Tips: It’s all about the Benjamin’s baby!!

Ladies, we know that weddings can be an astronomical expense. Believe us, we are both planning Boston weddings as we speak!  So we know that every penny counts! Make sure you keep that in mind when coming in for your bridesmaid/bridal
appointments!!
“What’s your budget?” is usually one of the first questions we ask you ladies when you come in so make sure you have asked your girls or you personally know how much you feel comfortable spending.  That way you are never stuck in a sticky situation with your lovely ladies.

However, if you do happen to fall in love with a dress that is a little bit out of reach for your girls it is always nice to put a few dollars towards their dresses so that both you and your girls end up happy with gorgeous dresses without having to spend wayyyyyy out of their budget!

BLOG LOVE……From one of our fav brides XOXO

It’s not too often we get brides in who chronicle every single step of the wedding planning process….until I met Tiffany, her amazing bridesmaids and mom last weekend!
They were the kind of group that literally took my breath away, mainly because I was dying laughing for the entire appointment and partially because they looked fab in everything they put on!!
Tiffany told me that she wrote and blog and little did I know that is was an amazingly hilarious blog all about her wedding planning process, her amazing groomzilla and her life!!
If you girls are looking for helpful tips for planning a wedding Tiffany’s Blog is the one to follow! Check it out and see the fab dresses the girls tried on here at Flair!
Thanks to Tiffany for an amazing shout out and for possibly one of the most fun appointments I have ever had!!

Here’s my example of what inspired me today for a romantic, chic wedding affair!

To enter, just create a new board using one of the weddings from the SMP Magazine as your inspiration. Simply, title your board with the name of the wedding from the magazine…. Then tag your board, Contest1. Please don’t use any spaces or symbols.

Meet our FABULOUS new Intern Joy!!!

Hello Flair blog readers!
My name is Joy and I am Flair Bridal Boutique’s newest intern! I am a freshman at Fisher College in the back bay of Boston, and I am studying to get a bachelor’s degree in business management with a focus in fashion merchandising!
I chose to study fashion merchandising because I believe that it is a great way to be involved in fast moving business while still being able to apply the creative aspects of style. Being an intern at Flair is fantastic because not only is it exciting to help brides in planning their weddings, but I also learn something every time I step through the door.
The top three most valuable lessons that I have learned since starting my internship are that every bride or bridesmaid has a different style preference, you have to give every dress a chance because it always looks different on than on the rack, and most importantly you can’t give up when something is difficult. This last one is key considering I still can’t exactly master clipping a dress during a fitting.
Hope to see everyone in the store soon!
 🙂 Joy

It’s all about COLOR!!!

I think it was the boy scouts who said it best……
“Be prepared!”
Such great advice, especially when shopping for all your fab and beautiful bridesmaids! You have about a million decisions to make before your BIG day and choosing the color of your bridesmaids dresses is really one of the biggest and most important.

Although I hate to refer to your lovely ladies as decoration, the truth is they are in a sense.  They will be the array of color surrounding you, and the color you choose is the catalyst for many other decisions (flowers, groomsmen’s attire, centerpiece colors) and will essentially set the tone for the wedding! Ouch, now that sounds like a HUGE decision.
Don’t fret we are here to help you!
Make sure you come into Flair with ideas….whether that be magazine clippings, your favorite scarf, or paint chips. Anything helps!
So, don’t forget that boy scout motto “be prepared”!

We are looking forward to helping you choose the color and dress of you and your bridesmaids’ dreams!

XOXO
Stacey 🙂

Stuff We Love!! Long Dresses…….These dresses are long on style ;)

Floor length dresses have always been a point of debate in the bridesmaids’ community. When and where are they appropriate? Are my bridesmaids going to be comfortable in them? Do I have to pay an arm and a leg to get a gorgeous, long dress? Your friends at Flair are here to answer these hard hitting questions and find the floor length dress of your dreams!
Dessy Collection is a great place to start looking for moderately priced floor length gowns. Most are in the low $200 area, some even under $200 (especially if you have a large number of bridesmaids – the group discount is your friend)!

Style #2829                              Style #6613                            Style #2832
Plus, their flowy styles are perfect even for a summer wedding. Some brides think that if they are getting married in the summer that they have to get short bridesmaids’ dresses and that’s just not the case! You can find light, breezy floor length gowns that scream summer! Plus, Dessy’s newer styles have a blousy look that mimic our fav summer maxi dresses, making them easier to re-wear in the future (c’mon, with a jean jacket over it you’d totally wear it out to dinner)!
“Margaux” in Slate Crinkle Chiffon                            “Talia” in Concord Chiffon

Above we have Jenny Yoo’s chiffon gowns and they are amazing too. The styles are elegant and timeless, perfect for a more formal, evening affair. Even better, the chiffon is so lightweight that all of your girls will feel comfortable in their gowns all night long! In general, bridesmaids tell us that they appreciate a long gown. It’s a change of pace and you don’t have to worry as much about the shoes since they are hidden. So, if you’re leaning towards long, go for it! We can help you find you a gorgeous gown for any occasion!
Tell us what you are loving!!
