New York Bridal Market at a Glance

Saturday October 15th – Day 1

9:30 AM – Lindsay and Stacey board the Amtrak to NYC! A few episodes of Glee on our computers and we’re there!

1:30 PM – Struggle to catch a cab at Penn Station and Lindsay’s watch goes missing…not a good start…

2:00 – We check into the fabulous Omni Berkshire Hotel in Midtown, thanks to our friends at the Omni in Boston. Seriously, if there is an Omni wherever you are traveling, STAY THERE! They are all so classy and gorgeous, we were in heaven!

3:00 – Explore Midtown a little…we search for a Starbucks that the concierge told us was a block away, but never find it (more on that later) and end up getting sandwiches nearby.

4:00 – Make ourselves pretty and presentable (takes longer than you’d think).

4:30 – Wind ruins our hair as we wait for a cab outside of the hotel…Stacey and Lindsay are NOT happy.

5:00 – Check into Pier 94 (where bridal market is held) and have our first meeting with Anna Elyse, yay! We don’t want to give too much away but let’s just say we are SO excited about her new bridal line. We absolutely fell in love with one gown with a textured skirt…stay tuned! She is expanding and growing her bridesmaids’ line as well and added two new fabrics, chiffon and charmuese. Go Annie!

6:30 – Lindsay and Stacey struggle to figure out where to go to dinner. They end up at the hotel restaurant (Fireside) like major losers.  The salad in the parmesan bowl was fab though!

7:30 – Conference call with Flair’s owner Christine to discuss what we’ve seen so far. We are so excited already!

8:30 – Asleep…not kidding. The beds at the Omni were too amazing to resist for too long and poor Stacey is under the weather. Such a trooper!

Sunday October 16th – Day 2

6:00 AM – Time to wake up and get ready! We are sure to use ample Rave hairspray to avoid yesterday’s windy fiasco. P.S. Stacey confirms that the Omni has the best hotel shower EVER. Bonus!

7:30 – We’re out the door and immediately go looking for Starbucks…which we again did not find. Eventually we stumbled across one several blocks away (with the help of our smart phones – seriously, what did we do before those things?!). A fabulous man in a morning coat compliments Lindsay’s trench and sunglasses (the glasses are forever 21, he thought Tom Ford). Her day is made. Then, a turn for the worse: our lovely cab driver starts to drive away with Stacey still half way out the door. She swung her way in though, crisis averted.

9:00 – Appointment to see a potential new bridal designer, Junko Yoshioka. Such nice guys and gorgeous dresses! We have the best job ever!

10:00 – Time to meet with the Jenny Yoo ladies! We love them! Let us start by saying that Jenny has such a good idea for a bridesmaid’s dress that she is in the process of patenting it. Yes, you heard us, a patent. Can’t wait to show you ladies when the samples come in!

11:00 – Meeting with Coren Moore and her team. They are THE sweetest ever and we love hanging out with them, and of course seeing their new styles! We love their new chiffon pieces, which we’ll have in the store in the coming WEEKS! Eeek, so excited!! Plus, later in the season we’ll have a gorgeous bridesmaid’s dress with a ruffle detail and you know how we love us a ruffle!

12:00 PM – Quick trip to see our accessories designer, A.B. Ellie. Ashley is a true genius when it comes to bridal and bridesmaids’ belts. They really add SO much detail to our dresses. We added a few new pieces for the store and we know our girls are going to L-O-V-E them! Plus, we love seeing Ashley and her sister, they are so down to earth and fabulous!

12:30 – Off to Nicole Miller! Her dresses are so much fun, we love seeing them on the gorgeous models. Plus, she has A-MAZING party dresses that are really well priced!

1:30 – MUCH needed lunch break! Stacey and Lindsay wander the waterfront area for awhile and stumble upon a cute little pub. Slow service but great food, just the pick me up we needed!

3:00 – Lynn Lugo time! We are SOSO excited about Lynn’s new styles! In particular, there are three new tops with ruffle details that we fell in LOVE with. They are super cute and wearable, trust us! Plus, she came out with some great soft colors that we think will be very popular this year. Lynn and her husband Pete are the cutest couple ever, so we just love to chat and catch up with them. Plus, they gave us these amazing cups with her logo on them which we now use every day!

4:00 – Definitely time to grab a coffee in the buyer’s lounge area. We are starting to fade!

4:30 – Quick stop at Dessy. Theirs is always an easy one, we know we’re getting everything! We figured out what colors we wanted and were on our way!

5:00 – Our last meeting of the day is with 57 Grand. We love these ladies, definitely be on the lookout for them. They get the best magazine exposure ever and landed another Martha Stewart editorial just recently! They have a super cool bridal style with a removeable tulle skirt, so cool!

6:00 – Headed back to the Omni!

6:30 – Hour and a half conference call with Christine, we have SO much to discuss!

8:00 – Stacey and Lindsay get brave and venture out for dinner! Watch out NYC here we come! We went to this adorable Italian restaurant with THE fastest service ever. The entrees were there literally 2 minutes after we ordered, crazy! Plus, our waiter had a crush on us and gave us a glass of wine on the house. Not gonna lie, we needed it!

9:00 – Back to the Omni, we laugh and watch The Proposal and fall asleep by 11:00 (such rebels after last night).

Monday October 17th – Day 3

6:30 AM – Wake up time! We were ready super early yesterday so we slept a little later.

7:45 – Out the door, we try yet again to find the “close” Starbucks but again end up at the farther one we went to yesterday. Whatever, we’d travel miles and miles for the bucks.

9:00 – Meeting another new designer, Amy Kuschel. She is THE perfect fit for Flair! Her bridal gowns are definitely going to be a step up for us and we KNOW our girls are going to love them! Plus, former Flair girl Leah works with them at her new bridal boutique so we got to catch up with her there. We miss her! Ladies, you are going to DIE over these dresses, we are counting down the days until we can start showing them to you!!

10:00 – Travel to the Intercontinental Hotel where Siri is showing. She got the presidential suite there, go Siri!!

11:00 – Meeting with Siri. She has an absolutely adorable rouched sweetheart style that we know will KILL at Flair.

12:00 PM – Last stop of the trip, Badgley Mischka in Times Square! No new styles but it was still so nice to see their showroom, it’s gorgeous!

12:30 – Quick change into scrubby, train clothes in the Omni bathroom. We ask the concierge yet again where the closer Starbucks is…and still don’t find it. We are convinced it doesn’t exist.

1:00 – Quick lunch in Midtown. We get to eat outside because it is so gorgeous out!

2:00 – Amtrak home! A man and woman behind us refuse to stop talking even though the train is supposed to be quiet. We give a few mean glances, to no avail. On the brighter side, Stacey meets a new man (in the form of an adorable 7 month old baby, who was a major flirt).

Tuesday October 18th – Back to Flair!!! We only wish we had all of those new styles with us, but we should have a lot of them soon after the new year! Stay tuned brides and maids!

We had the best time at Bridal Market this year and we are so excited to share all the new gems!

Here’s to a happy, successful, beautifully dressed and healthy 2012!

XOXO

Lindsay & Stacey

Fall Favorites

It’s no secret that we New Englanders love autumn. With the crisp air, sweaters and those changing leaves that draw gawkers from miles away, it truly is a magical time of year. Here are a few other reasons we love Fall…

1)      Apple picking: Seriously, who doesn’t love a fun day out at an orchard picking apples right off of the tree? Fact: they always taste like 10 times better than the apples you get at the grocery store. Plus, you just feel productive, going out and foraging for your own food and what not. I felt inspired afterwards to continue the productiveness and cook, making applesauce from scratch. Watch out Martha Stewart. Looking for a fab orchard (and who isn’t?)? Try Belkin Lookout Farm in Natick. They have TONS of fresh fruit, as well as a petting zoo. I mean really, there’s something for everyone.

2)      New fall TV: We admit it, we’re kind of TV junkies at Flair. So, Fall always brings a sense of excitement as new shows come out and old favorites pick up from the annoying cliffhangers they left us off at. We highly recommend checking out “The New Girl” on Fox. It is simply adorkable, Zooey Deschanel is a comedy queen. Also, “Up All Night” on NBC is good for laughs, even though we’re not on the baby track just yet.

Hurry up and snatch up these soon to be discontinued styles from Jenny Yoo!

3)      Fall sales at Flair!!: Did you really think we wouldn’t bring this back to Flair somehow? Seriously though, our designers are feeling super generous in the fall and most are offering really great deals just to order your dresses before the crazy winter bridal season begins. So why not check the bridesmaids’ dresses off of your to-do list nice and early AND save some money at the same time! Check out the 411 on the remaining sales below and call us to set up an appointment ASAP!

Coren Moore: 15% off of all bridesmaids’ orders placed by October 31st PLUS one free sash per dress!

Lynn Lugo: $20 off of all dresses (on top of group discount) ordered by November 30th!

Jenny Yoo: Bump it up Promo add and extra 5% off your bridesmaid orders! Catch those styles before they get discontinued.

Siri: Extra $20 (on top of group discount) off all orders of 2 or more bridesmaids’ dresses by November 30th!

Happy Fall 😉

Fashion’s Night Out: A Retrospecive

Hello happy brides and maids! Did you hit up Fashion’s Night Out? It’s the first time this event has taken place in Boston for 15 years and we were pumped to check it out! What a cool concept; fabulous stores stay open late, pump you full of free apps and beverages and give you discount on their wares. Hello, nothing wrong with that! Plus, we secretly loved walking in the middle of a blocked off Newbury Street.

Some Flair favs:

1)      DVF (duh, always a fav) had some AMAZING deals! Stacey found an adorable black lace mini for $325. Perfect for a rehearsal dinner, shower, etc.

2)      Ted Baker had some adorable dresses! They are super fun and flirty, perfect for a bachelorette! One of our favorites was a black cocktail dress with a tiered skirt. The fabric was a layer of tulle with chiffon sewn over top, so unique!

3)      Bobbles and Lace is a new addition to Newbury Street, with a recent move from the North End.  We are sure they’ll be a HUGE success with the venue change! This is definitely the place to hit up for bridesmaids’ jewelry. We’re already planning a trip back there to take a more in depth peek, be on the lookout for more info on them in a future blog…

In short, we hope it doesn’t take another 15 years to have a Boston’s Fashion Night Out! We’re sure it was a huge success and are already looking forward to next year!

Fashionably Yours

Linds & Stace

I’ve been there, learn from me…

Hi pretty brides! I’m sure all of you 2011 brides are in stress central right? I was there approximately 1 month ago and you’ll get through it, I promise. I just got married on July 23 and it truly was the best day of my life. The feeling of having (almost) everyone you love all in one room is so overwhelming (in a good way!) and amazing. There’s nothing like it! So, keep that in mind as you do those last monotonous things. It will all be worth it in the end! I’ve come up with some tips to help you through the end of your planning process.

1)      Don’t sweat the small stuff: I know, it’s much easier said than done but really try to live by this mantra. Practicing what I preach: my bridal gown had little organza flowers on the skirt and people kept stepping on it which pulled some of the flowers off. This is not an excuse to go all Jeckyll and Bride all over said guest(s). My exact quote was “whatever!” Seriously, by the time your day gets here you’ll be so happy that stuff like that just doesn’t seem to matter anymore.

2)      Have a photo plan: The time you have between the ceremony and the reception goes by in warp speed. If you go in without a plan it’s going to pass you by and all you’ll have to show for it are a few cheesy posed shots that no one really likes. Know where you want to go and what groups of people you want photographed. Also, if time allows definitely save time for some photos of just you and your honey. It’s a nice way to relax a little and make it just about the two of you. It is your day, after all!

3)      SLOW DOWN: As anxious as you are to get married, take your walk down the aisle slowly. I sped through mine and it was tough for my photographer to get good photos. Whoops, fail, etc.

4)      Cheers!: Plan ahead and have some bubbly waiting for you and your bridal party after the ceremony. It will loosen them up a little for the photo session and it’s a great excuse to have people toast to you and tell you how fab you are.

5)      Girls night!: Don’t plan ANYTHING to do the night before the wedding (besides the rehearsal/ rehearsal dinner of course). Spend your last single night with your best girls. If you’re anything like me and my friends you’ll end up gabbing and doing those cheesy dance moves that you can’t do in front of your fiance. Well, soon you can because you’ll be married and he’s stuck with you no matter what…

Spotlight on Kat’s Wedding at The Towers in Narragansett, RI

[really_simple_share]

Kat came into Flair and made quite the impression on us. We could tell right away it was going to be a beautiful, fun and bright wedding!  Boy were we right!! Looks like that had a beautiful day at The Towers in Narragansett captured by he talented Kate McElwee.

What was your inspiration for your wedding?
Our inspiration for the wedding was summer beach party fun! We wanted  our guests to be casual and comfortable so they could enjoy the night.

How did you tie that inspiration in to what you choose for your bridesmaid dresses/bridal gown?
Our bridesmaids dresses were so colorful and fun! My favorite colors are turquoise and pink, that’s why I chose the color scheme. The cut for the girls was absolutely perfect – extremely flattering, and they were in alignment with our casual theme. My dress was all alencon lace, a fit to flare cut, and while extremely elegant – -it wasn’t too much dress and was easy to get around in!

What dress did you choose?
We chose the Coren Moore “Courtney”  two-toned dress for the bridesmaids. It was ivory silk shantung on top, tiffany blue silk shantung on the bottom along with the pink sash.
The junior bridesmaids wore the junior lilly dress in the tiffany blue silk shantung with a pink seersucker sash.
The flower girls wore the junior lilly dress in white seersucker.

How was Stacey/Lindsay/Leah most helpful?
Stacey, Lindsay, and Leah were wonderful! As you can see, we had an extremely large wedding party, 8 bridesmaids, two junior bridesmaids, and two flower girls…not even including the boys! Many of the girls are from out of state. Stacey, Lindsay, and Leah were so patient taking orders and making sure sizes were spot on. They were also great with the kids who wanted to try everything on! As far as a bride goes, they were fun to work with, calm, and most importantly – – they girls don’t pressure you. Stacey, Lindsay, and Leah also gave us great individual attention in all of our appointments.

Tips for brides when selecting their BM dresses?  Bridal Gowns?
My only advice for a bride when selecting their bridesmaid dresses is that they should really go with what their heart tells them! I went with my favorite colors – -so I knew I couldn’t go wrong. Plus, the colors matched the season.

How was your experience at Flair?
My experience at Flair was amazing! My mother, sisters, and I took numerous trips to Boston to search for bridesmaid dresses, and nothing was unique or had the extra oomph that we wanted. When we walked into Flair, we were so excited to see different dresses that matched our theme perfectly. They also have a wide range of styles in different colors – – something that fits every body type.

Who designed your bridal gown?
Ana Hernandez out of Boston personally designed and sewed my dress!

Where did you get married?
Our wedding was at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Narragansett, RI. The reception was held at “The Towers” in Narragansett.

What three adjectives would best describe your wedding?
Fun, casual, and family-oriented.

What was your favorite moment at the wedding?
My favorite moment at the wedding was walking out of the church with Alex, as a newly married couple. The weather was sunny and beautiful, the church bells were ringing and we were just so excited to be married!

What advice can you give any other Boston/New England Bride?
My advice to other brides is to relax, take a deep breath, and use the help of your family and friends. Some of the planning can be a bit stressful… of course it’s time consuming, but try to laugh your way through it, and enjoy it!

Where did you go on your honeymoon?
We went to Oahu, Maui, Kaui, and stopped in San Francisco on the way back! It was awesome.

11 day’s til Lindsay’s wedding! ahhhh 🙂

Spotlight on Jen at the Boston Public Library

Alright, we hate to play favorites but seriously when you see this wedding you will understand why Jen and her two bridesmaids were one of our favorite groups we have had in the store!  They picked out the gorgeous Jenny Yoo “Chloe” gown in Aluminum and the dresses fit perfectly in one of the most elegant wedding venues in all of Boston, The Boston Public Library!  We had the chance to interview Jen about her big day and she shared some amazing tips with all your Flair Brides and bridesmaids out there!!

What was your inspiration for your wedding? The venue was definitely inspirational.  We were married at The Boston Public Library.  The space is breathtakingly beautiful and we fell in love with the courtyard space at first sight.  We used lighting to accentuate the beautiful architecture inside and vintage books in our centerpieces to tie in the Library theme.  The books in our centerpieces were also gifts for our guests.  Each guest/couple received a personally inscribed book that in some way had something to do with them – in most cases it was the title or the subject that tied in with their name or their profession or the city where they lived.  We spent a lot of time shopping for books before the wedding but it was so worth it….everyone loved them!  It was such a great feeling when we found “the perfect book”.  It was so fun to watch our guests notice the books – they couldn’t believe it.

Petalena did our flowers and they were absolutely amazing.  I honestly think they were the most beautiful flowers I have ever seen.  I love flowers, so the fact that they were so beautiful and more stunning than I could have dreamed of, made me really, really happy.  The amazing colors help to tie everything together.

More important to us than anything else was that our family and friends had a wonderful time.  We really always approached the wedding more like it was a party for all of them rather than for us.  For that reason I kept almost every detail a secret from everyone.  I really wanted everyone to be surprised by all the details – big and small.

How did you tie in your vision into what you choose for your bridesmaid dresses/bridal gown? The BPL is such a magical, romantic, and elegant space and it was important that the dresses fit into the space….I wanted them to be equally as elegant and classically beautiful.  I was also always drawn to neutral colors and a more formal but sexy silhouette.

What did you choose? The Jenny Yoo “Chloe” gown in Aluminum Shantung- it was perfect!

How was your experience at Flair? We worked primarily with Stacey.  She was fabulous.  We had shopped around before making an appointment at Flair, so honestly I wasn’t expecting to find “the dress” so quickly and easily.  We hadn’t had a very good experience with the bridesmaid dresses up until that point.  I didn’t want the girls to look too “bridesmaidy” if that makes any sense.  It literally took less than 20 minutes at Flair and we had found exactly what we were looking for.  In addition to making us feel very comfortable – almost like old friends – Stacey was also super helpful in getting us exactly everything we wanted.  The color we selected was discontinued (of course) but Stacey made a call to the designer and was able to get us the color we wanted at a discount – we couldn’t ask for anything more!

Tips for brides when selecting their BM dresses? Bridal Gowns? Don’t settle….follow your heart.  Picking a bridal gown was very easy for me.  I knew as soon as I tried on the dress that I had found the one…that said, I surprised all my friends…no one expected a ball gown!  I tried on a lot of beautiful dresses but the ball gown definitely made me feel the most like a bride.  I will never have the opportunity to wear a dress like that again…I’m so glad I did it!

I’ve heard that some brides don’t want their bridesmaids to look “as good as they do” but I felt the exact opposite.  I wanted my bridesmaids to be show stoppers!  They were the first “surprise” of the night…and I wanted to start things off on a high note.  I think the right accessories are also really important – you spend so much time shopping for the dresses…you should want to make sure that you find the perfect necklace, or earrings, or whatever – it totally pulls the look together!

What were you looking for in a bridesmaid dress? I was looking for a long, classic, evening gown.  I had two girls in my wedding party – my sister and my best friend.  Lucky for me both girls are tall, thin, and beautiful so I wanted to find something that complimented their beauty and their great figures.  My dress was a ball gown so I also wanted to find a different shape for the girls.  The bridesmaid dresses we picked were fit and flare.  We altered the dresses slightly from the original design to give them a little bit more of a sweetheart neckline.  Even the tailors told us they were the most beautiful bridesmaid dresses they had worked on – what a compliment!

(The most beautiful statement necklace was designed by Suzanna Dai)

What three adjectives would best describe your wedding? Romantic, Happy, Magical

What was your favorite moment at the wedding? Everything was so perfect, I’m not sure I can pick just one moment.  I loved the moment when I first started walking down the aisle, the moment we were announced as husband and wife, listening to the speech’s from my father, my brother-in-law, and my sister, and being in the middle of the dance floor with my new husband, surrounded by the most important and special people in our lives.  It was a magical night.

What advice can you give any other Boston Bride? My advice would be to enjoy every minute….of it all….from the planning to the big day.  Everything goes by so quickly so you have to remember to live in the moment.  I would also say that every penny we spent on the wedding was well worth it and I would do it all again in a heartbeat….there are definitely places where you can save money….we made a strict budget and we tried very hard to stay within it…but I would honestly say that if there is a detail that is very important to you…you should make sure you get it!

We were so blown away by the beauty of this wedding all captured by an amazing photographer Kelly Dillon….we had to bombard you with pictures, we hope you love them as much as we do!

Cheers to the beautiful couple 😉

Linds & Stacey

Ladies, don’t forget Jenny Yoo is having a Trunk show this month….an extra 10% off all floor length bridesmaids dresses!!

Wear it Again……Summer Lovin!

You seriously cannot get much cuter than the Jenny Yoo “Phoebe” dress!

I have been swooning over this dress since Jenny Yoo posted an awesome Blog about a bridal party that wore the Phoebe Dress and added 1 inch straps….so, I decided to not be original and order the exact same dress in the exact same color!!

Perfect for your adorable bridesmaids!

I  re-worn the Phoebe dress for a day at work or a evening summer cocktail party! So Cute! The great part about adding the 1 inch straps….I can tuck them in and it is still a fabulous strapless dress!

As we continue to tell you…..you can re-wear your bridesmaids dresses!

Loves it…..we hope you do too!

Ladies….it’s time for your wedding, now RELAX!

Wedding season has kicked into high gear and you know what that means….lot’s of weddings will be happening in the coming weeks and months!

Just a few things to  keep in mind as your wedding day approaches!

1. When dresses come in, come get them!  We have a limited space here at Flair and we want you to have your beautiful  dress as long as possible so you have time for tailoring/transporting your dress.

2. Remind your girls that they will have tailoring to be done.  99% of girls that come in need some sort of tailoring.  The size you ordered is the closest to your size, not made to your measurements.

3. Make sure your girls have had dresses steamed or pressed before coming to the wedding unless you have your hotel or venue doing that for you the day before the wedding! We don’t want wrinkly girls walking down the aisle!

4. RELAX……this is supposed to be the happiest time of your life. You have done all the planning and worrying up until this point, let the people around you worry and make all the magic happen. Unfortunately something probably will go wrong on the BIG day but you will probably be the only one to notice it, because everyone else will be noticing you!!

RELAX…..step back and enjoy the best day of your life!

Just chillin…..
