Bridesmaids’ Jewelry

Find the perfect cherry to top off their look!

Picture a cupcake without the frosting, a burger without the cheese, or a sundae without the cherry. They still look good, but you’ve got to admit, there’s just something missing. It’s those finishing touches that really make each food special (and let’s face it, tasty)! When it comes to bridesmaids, of course the dress is the “meat” of their look, but it’s the jewelry that really completes their wedding day style. So yeah, it’s pretty important to pick just the right pieces! Here are some things to consider – along with some pretty pieces from Flair sprinkled in there!:

Dress Style – If you chose a soft, romantic bridesmaid’s dress, for example, then your jewelry should follow suit. Consider a classic string of pearls as opposed to a chunky statement piece that reads more modern.

Can't decide between pearls and crystals? Mariell says you don't have to!

Dress cut – Not all dress silhouettes go with all styles of jewelry. Higher necklines are trickier to pair with a necklace, for instance, so you may want to consider earrings and/or a bracelet instead. A thicker cut v-neck already takes up plenty of real estate on your girls’ décolletage, so if that’s your chosen style you’ll want to think about a thin, delicate necklace to match.

Dress fabric – These days, bridesmaids’ dresses are getting more and more intricate. Complete with sparkle and even patterns, some dresses today make a loud enough statement all on their own! If that’s the case with your chosen dress, you may want to opt for a simple stud earring that won’t compete with the dress.

A jewelry set is the perfect way to ensure that your earrings and necklace match perfectly!

Whatever you’re considering, decide in advance if you’ll be picking up the jewelry tab or allowing your girls to choose and buy their own accessories. If you’re not footing the bill, you can give them guidelines but really the final decision is theirs, so make sure you’re comfortable with that! Lastly, think about if you’re OK with your girls coordinating their own pieces into their wedding day look. Maybe one girl has an heirloom watch that she never takes off, for example. Are you OK with her wearing it on your big day? If not, think of a way to gently let the girls know that the pieces you/they pick are really the only accessories you envision.

Above all else, shopping for bling should be fun! So, if you’re feeling stressed about it, don’t hesitate to call us and schedule a half-hour accessories appointment. We’re happy to go over your vision and make some recommendations! Happy shopping 🙂

Bridesmaids’ Dresses

Caring for your wedding wardrobe

As we unpacked box after box of shiny, new bridesmaids’ dresses this week, we got to thinking about what happens to these beauties after they leave our showroom. We LOVE getting photos from our brides’ big days; seeing the dresses come to life and fit in with all of your other gorgeous wedding details. But what about before the wedding day? We realized that maybe it was time for a little crash course in “I just received my bridesmaid’s dress, now what??”

Just a small sampling of the dresses we unpack on a daily basis. Side bar, this is going to be one beautiful, blush bridal party!

So you pick up your dress, you’re all excited, and then you get it home and kinda freak out a little. This is a super important dress and you have to keep it safe and in perfect condition until the wedding day (which for some people is months away). Don’t panic, here’s what you do:

1) Try it on…ASAP! – We’re going to start off by saying that 99.9% of the time our dresses leave the store in perfect condition. However, there is that other 0.1% to consider. If you get your dress home and you think something isn’t quite right, we have to know about it right away. Most likely, it’s not an actual problem and we can talk you through it. In the event that there is a true issue, though, our designers will only consider fixing a dress if they know about the problem quickly. The longer it’s in your care, the more likely the problem occurred on your end, and the less likely they will be to remedy it.

2) Find your dress a home – Once you’ve tried your dress on and are happy with it, it needs a place to live. Find a nice, dark place (like the back of your closet) to keep it safe. Avoid anywhere that gets direct sunlight, as prolonged sun exposure overtime can affect the color slightly. Also, make sure the dress isn’t smashed/crushed; giving it ample space will avoid wrinkling. Last but not least, always keep your dress in the bag we provided it with!

3) Plan your tailoring – Most dresses will need some adjustments, so use this time to research where you want to take yours. Of course, Flair has a preferred, amazing tailor, but ultimately you can take your dress wherever you like. We strongly recommend choosing a reputable tailor with great reviews (ideally someone you know has used/loved them). Remember, the cheapest option is likely not the best option. This is not the place to cut corners!

4) Let out some steam – While many tailors will offer to steam your dress for you, it is likely to get a few wrinkles between pick up and the wedding day. See if the venue where you will be getting ready has a steamer on hand for last minute adjustments. If not, most dresses can be steamed in the bathroom during a nice, long, hot shower. Just avoid actual water contact with your dress; keep it far enough from the stream to just get a nice, little steam.

See, nice and easy! If any other questions come up between pick up and the wedding, though, just reach out to Flair, we’re always here to help!

Wedding Dress Inspiration

Flair in Primetime!

Here at Flair, we are pretty big TV fans (hey, with this brutal winter, there’s not much else to do). We pore over all of Mindy Kaling/Lahiri’s fashions, get most of our “news” from “The Newsroom” and use Coach Taylor’s epic, pre-game speeches to get us pumped up for the day. Yes, we’re dorks, and yes, we’re OK with it. So, you can imagine our happiness when we saw some of OUR dresses featured on two TV weddings recently!

First up: “Glee”. We loved Brittany and Santana’s wedding for many reasons. Most importantly, we got to see a stunning same sex wedding in prime time, which is pretty fabulous. Next, they had a rustic chic wedding in a barn; a wedding style that we love and that we see alot of in our area. Lastly, they wore dresses by designers that WE carry! Santana rocked the popular Dakota gown by Nicole Miller while Brittany was ethereal in Jenny Yoo’s Vionnet gown. Not only that, but the bridesmaids wore dresses by Alfred Sung, another Flair designer! It was amazing to see the girls in dresses that we recognized by designers that we love AND we were thrilled that the show chose to highlight affordable, gorgeous dresses that ANY bride/bridesmaid can wear!

Next up: “New Girl”. Another show that we love! In true, quirky, “New Girl” fashion this wedding wasn’t without its hitches and hijinks, but one thing was certainly a success: the bride’s dress! Jess’ Dad’s fiancé Ashley (aka Dee from “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) wore Jenny Yoo’s Camilla gown and looked chic and comfortable (despite this photo – sorry there weren’t better ones available)!

Two of our loves combined: wedding dresses and TV; we couldn’t be happier! Let us know if you see any TV wedding dresses that you love 🙂

Flair’s Fashion Week Recap!

Fashion Week Spring 2015 Trend Report!

Well, another Fashion Week has come to a close. This year, though, was a little different. There was all of the usual glitz, glamour and fun, but with a quiet note of sadness mixed in as the fashion world mourned the great Joan Rivers. Two things Joan loved most, though, were fashion and laughter, so I think she’d be fine with us getting back to those! So, we’re here to recap some of the major trends seen on this year’s runway! As you probably know, even though Fashion Week is in the fall, everything on the runway was made for Spring 2015. So we’re all getting a little preview of what’s to come; perfect for Spring/Summer 2015 brides! While most runway looks are not intended for weddings necessarily, there are subtle ways you can pop their trends into your big day!

1) 3D details: This year’s looks were literally popping off the runway! Designers were using multi-layered sequins, tons of paillettes, beading, crystals and even 3D florals to bring their looks to life. You can achieve this look with our petal bridal gown by Theia, which is covered in stunning fabric petals, giving you that on trend, 3D look!

This Vera Wang stunner embodies the 3D perfectly! As for the Theia gown, she does too, and you can get her at Flair!!

2) Metallics: Shades of Gold, Silver and Bronze were all over the runways this year! Metallics are great for a wedding; in general they are neutrals so you can pair them with whatever other colors you like! No need to stress over if the napkins, bridesmaids’ dresses, flowers and programs will coordinate! Get the look with Jenny Yoo’s Metallic Lace, seen here on her Hudson dress!

This Max Mara is the perfect shade of silver, just like in the matallic threading on our Hudson dress!

3) Pleats: OK, we have to pat ourselves on the back here. Pleats have been big in the wedding world for years, and the high fashion world is finally catching up! Pleats are super flattering and add the perfect, subtle detail to any dress! Steal this look for less with Dessy’s style 2880; pleats and rouching and flattering galore!

We love these Calvin Klein pleats almost as much as Dessy's ;)

4) Blush: OK, another pat on the back for us! Blush has been huge in the wedding world for the past couple of years, and it looks like it’s here to stay for atleast one more! Blush is soft, romantic and generally pretty flattering, making it the perfect wedding color! More good news: you can get this look with pretty much every designer at Flair! Check it out here on Siri’s Dahlia dress; stunning!

We are swooning over the color of this Tory Burch look, and over the cut of this Siri dress; so chic!

Boston Bridesmaids’ Dresses: Past and Present

At the end of the year, I always find myself getting a little nostalgic and I long for a walk down memory lane. For people of our generation, taking a walk down memory lane often means taking a virtual walk back through old Facebook photos. It always seems like a fun thing to do, but about five minutes in I wonder “why did I decide to do this?!?!” Everyone has some questionable photos they’d like to forget, but my biggest crimes seem to be fashion related. T-shirts with “clever” sayings, super boot cut jeans, chunky heels, oh my! While I cringed at most of my old fashion choices, seeing them also made me feel great about how far I’ve come in the fashion world.

Bridesmaids’ dresses are in the same boat. When I started at Flair over 5 years ago, bridesmaids’ dresses were cute and flattering for sure, but they have come so far since then. Long gone are the days of a simple strapless dress with a tea length, a-line skirt. By the way, no one looks good in tea length. If you do, then you have the body of Giselle, so congrats to you! Anyways, skirt lengths have come up to a more flattering knee length, designers are coming out with unique, striking fabrics and gone are the days of clone bridesmaids in the exact same dresses. Being a bridesmaid today is not the groan worthy task of old. It’s sure to be a fashion event you’ll be happy to look back on in your virtual trips down memory lane!

When you stop into Flair for a visit, ask us nicely and we would be happy to show you some of the “bad” bridesmaids’ dresses of years past. They are sure to make you very appreciative of the fabulous styles of today!

You guys, bridesmaids' dresses used to look like this. Faces have been cropped for obvious reasons.

Bridal Shower Themes!

There are many different ideas for a bridal shower. It depends on your season, wedding day theme, who is coming, how intimate, and many other factors. But the biggest factor is what YOU want. We are going to take a closer look into what it will take to create these different afternoon (or morning) escapes.

bridalshower2

bridalshower1

Kitchen Theme—A kitchen theme bridal shower usually involves kitchen gifts and activities. Guests are usually asked to bring a favorite or family recipe so the bride can get a jump-start on their recipe collection. There may even be a little bit of baking involved or a “create-your-own” fruit bar. As long as food is involved it will be fun!

Bridalshower3

bridalshower4

High Tea—This bridal shower is all things tea related! Play fun games, get the girls together, and eat tiny sandwiches! If you are a little confused and new to the “tea-party” theme a great place to start is Teavana they are very informative and will be able to direct you to find a good arrange of teas that will go perfectly with your party. Also don’t forget the option of coffee!

bridalshower6

bridalshower5

Brunch—For those morning people, you can always start the day off right with a brunch theme. Mimosas, a “do-it-your-own” fruit, granola, and yogurt bar, and pastry spread will certainly be the key to a classy and fun event. Besides…it is the most important meal of the day. Jazz Brunch at The Beehive is a quirky and fun place to plan a rocking shower!

bridalshower7

bridalshower8

Wine & Cheese—Wine & Cheese parties are very fun. It is a great way to get all your fiends together and try different wines. Either have guests bring a bottle of their favorite or create the selection yourself! Baccos in Boston is a great place to start to learn about all the great wine and cheese pairings!

bridalshower10

bridalshower9

Spa—In the middle of planning a wedding the bride needs a spa day. Many salons have packages and can accommodate a bridal shower for the bride and some of her close friends. A cheaper alternative option will also be make a spa day at home. Set up different stations and try “at-home” remedies for beauty products. Great gift ideas that go along with this theme are bath products, towels, and more bath supplies.  Spa’s we love in Boston Exhale & Emerge perfect for any spa day with the girls!

Take this day as a way to enjoy the company with friends and treat yourself before the big day! Enjoy!

Now go plan that bridal shower!!

xoxo
