Jenny Yoo 2013 Preview!

Oh weekends, how I love you! Any day that allows me to sleep late and then go to brunch – a mid-day meal where champagne is encouraged – is fine by me. At Flair though, we give up one or sometimes both of our weekend days to be at the store and meet with our fabulous brides. It seems like a sacrifice but we truly love doing it! We especially love being here when we’re having a trunk show; it’s the perfect way to showcase one of our amazing designers! This past weekend we’re DOUBLY excited though, because our Jenny Yoo trunk show is also a preview of her new 2013 collection!

When we received the box of dresses from Jenny Yoo, it truly felt like Christmas morning! We were so excited to tear the box open and get a look at those new beauties. What makes us most excited though is seeing how far bridesmaids’ dresses have come. I think it may take a little longer for them to completely eclipse the bad rap bridesmaids’ dresses have gotten over the years, but really there’s no comparison between the dresses of today to those of years past. We’re so proud of our designers, each year they grow and change with the times but still stay true to their personal vision/aesthetic. It’s not an easy task, but they do it with ease!

To quickly sum up what we’re seeing for 2013: Patterned fabrics and lace and shorter hems, oh my! Basically, we’re getting an answer to the age old “I don’t want my bridesmaids’ dresses to look like bridesmaids’ dresses” dilemma. You can come to a bridal shop and get our expert service and advice (yes, tooting our own horn) and walk away with really unique and special dresses. Heaven!

We can’t wait to show you all of the new goodies as they roll in over the next few months; 2013 is shaping up to be the best year yet!

XOXO

Bridal Spotlight: Abby and Jonny’s Elegant Affair at the InterContinental!

What was your inspiration for your wedding?

Oddly enough i was inspired by photos of a couple outdoor weddings that were very different styles from the way mine ended up, but i loved the rustic feel and tried to incorporate that into a formal black-tie setting.

What was your favorite part of wedding planning?

I loved meeting with all my vendors and envisioning how the room would look once it all came together.

How did you tie that inspiration in to what you choose for your bridesmaid dresses/bridal gown?

The color scheme was very neutral so it was easy to pick based on that. one of the photos that inspired me actually had similar colored bridesmaid dresses and i loved the way they looked. once i showed Stacey the picture she helped me find the perfect options.

What did you choose?

I gave the girls their choice of the Jenny Yoo Kate & Anya dreses AND Dessy styles LR164, LR166 & LR168.

What color?
Jenny Yoo – Barley, Dessy – Bailey  – they happened to be the exact same material and color and matched perfectly to the point that you would never know that half the girls were wearing different brands!

What were you looking for in your bridesmaid dresses?

I wanted there to be enough options that everyone would find a dress they liked. I also wanted the dresses to look elegant and fun at the same time.

How was Stacey/Lindsay/Jaime most helpful?

Stacey was helpful in every way 🙂 I had no questions left unanswered, and each of my bridesmaids.
What did you choose for your bridal gown?
I wore my sisters gown which she wore 6 years earlier; Stacey knew that I had planned on making some slight alterations and even let me come in and try on some bridal gowns in the store just to help me decide what to do with my sister’s dress and get some inspiration.

Tips for brides when selecting their BM dresses?  Bridal Gowns?

Try to think about what your bridesmaids will be excited to wear and feel beautiful in – the happier everyone else is the better you’ll feel on that day too!

How was your experience at Flair?

Perfect, wouldn’t have had it any other way!

Where did you get married??

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

Casa de Campo in La Romana, Dominican Republic– it was amazing!!

Anna Elyse’s NEW Silk Essence Collection!

OK I’ve got a question, when is this whole economy thing going to turn around? Anybody know? I’ve been doing pretty diligent work on my end, revamping my Spring/Summer wardrobe and all. Now I understand that that alone may not be enough to turn the whole economy around (though my husband might beg to differ…he put me on a budget the other day…silly Jay) so we’re trying to help out at Flair as well.

Having planned our own weddings during this economy, Stacey and I understand how hard it is to ask your bridesmaids to spend a ton of money on their dresses. We also know, though, that you want them to look super cute. Know who else understands all of that? One of our fabulous designers…Anna Elyse! So, she has come to the rescue with a gorgeous new fabric called Silk Essence. It looks just like real silk, but since it’s a poly you save tons of money! For such a great deal you probably think your options are going to be kinda limited though, right? Wrong! There are about a million colors to choose from and most of Anna Elyse’s styles are available in her new fabric. So, bottom line, come check it out ASAP! We just got our first sample in and it’s adorable! We know you’ll agree.

Happy Shopping!

Making and having a successful bridal/bridesmaid appointments!

Congratulations, your true love has finally popped the question and you said “YES”!  First things first, pick a date and a venue!! Now onto fashion…..what will you wear and what will you choose for your bridal party!

We realize this an extremely exciting time in your life and believe us we are so excited for you and cannot wait to hear about all of your plans and ideas! Here are a few helpful hints before you come in for an appointment to keep in mind!

1. Book your appointment at least 2 weeks in advance!

If you have friends flying in from far off lands, you usually know pretty far in advance……so, as soon as you know, call us!  617.247.2828 We hate turning you away when you have your close friends in town but we are a small store and we need more than 2 days’ notice to book you an appointment especially for a late night or weekend!

2. Come in with some sort of vision!!

Lucky for us, we live in a society that is overloaded with information….sometimes completely over the top at all times.  We have so many ways to find inspiration Pinterest, Bridal Magazines, Blogs, Facebook stalking(we know you do it!), and wedding planners! The problems arise when you come in and give your girls free reign of the entire store and don’t pick any kind of direction.  You are just setting yourself up for disaster and a very disappointing appointment.  Your friends do want to please you and help make your day as wonderful as possible so take this opportunity to at least give them a direction to go in!

3. Bring a select group of friends and family!

If you have been to Flair then you know that we are on the smaller side. If you haven’t, now you know!  We are a small store..…you are probably thinking what does that mean for me? Well, it means bringing the entire bridal party or every aunt and cousin you have doesn’t not really work here! Unfortunately we are a small store and we only have two fitting rooms. On Saturday’s we double book so your large groups will be limited to one fitting room.  So, our suggestion would be to pick your most trusted friends and family to come in and help you with your bridal gown or bridesmaid dress process.  You do want some people to be surprised when they show up at the wedding right?

4. If you made an appointment, keep your appointment or cancel it!

So, you called ahead of time to make a special appointment to come in and look at bridal gowns or bridesmaid dresses! Congrats you were able to schedule the best possible time for you and your friends and your special appointment time rolls around……..and we are patiently waiting for you to arrive to show you all the beautiful gowns/dresses we have when……..we realize you are not coming.

Although I would like to say this happens hardly ever, that is not the case.  Not only does this hurt us as a small business, it hurts our other customers that are on our waitlist hoping for a time to be able to get in and check out bridal gown or bridesmaid dresses with friends and family.  So, if you can’t make it that is fine, just let us know so that we can fill in your time slot with the girls who can make it and are calling us non-stop to see if someone has cancelled.

So, now that you have all our pointers make plans with your girls, call early and get in here!! We are dying to hear about your wedding!!

XOXO

Get inspired by “Pinterest”

There are many reasons why I am jealous of 2012 brides. As many of you fellow 2011 brides can probably attest, the year after you get married is super fun and all buuuuuuut also filled with some wedding withdrawals. Planning the wedding takes up so much of your time and energy and then afterwards you’re left trying to figure out what to do with all of that extra time. Well, one of the things that I’ve been doing to fill my time is going on Pinterest….constantly. As my husband eloquently put it “you’re on that website a lot.” Yes honey, I am. I am designing our future home, dressing our future kids and planning interesting meals to cook for you, so I’ve kinda got my hands full here.

Sorry, I got a little off topic there. Circling back around, Pinterest is another reason why I am jealous of 2012 brides. It is literally the best way to organize all of your fab wedding ideas. See a flower bouquet online that you like? Pin it! Then, bring any device with internet access to your meeting with your florist and BOOM they can see it quickly and easily. It is crazy that only one short year ago I was bringing torn out magazine photos to my meetings. Ugh, that’s so 2011.

So, check out Flair on Pinterest to steal some of our amazing ideas and get yourself started. Like me, I’m sure you’ll be neglecting your fiancé/husband in no time (sorry hubby, but really I’m doing it for our future)!

Happy Pinning!

XOXO

Jill & Nate’s Nautical New England Wedding!

This wedding is close to my heart, mainly because I am lucky enough to say I know the bride and groom!  They are quite the two love birds….you know the type, making googly eyes at each other across the room, always rooting for each other whether it be at a marathon or a triathlon, they are each others biggest fans and seeing the sparks and love between the two of them is quite a joy for all those who know them.  I haven’t met two people who were more meant for each other!  And I really think it shows in their wedding pictures.  What a beautiful and romantic wedding for two people who truly deserve it! 😉
Enjoy the fabulous wedding of Mr & Mrs Nate & Jill Brown!
What was your inspiration for your wedding?
Our venue was truly our inspiration for our wedding. I had been to a baby naming for a newborn I babysat in highschool at the Atlantica.  I knew as I entered the function room that that is where I wanted to get married someday. The room has panoramic views of the harbor so we decided to go with a nautical theme, playing off the venue. We wanted our wedding to capture our love for the ocean and give guests that classic summertime party!

How did you tie that inspiration in to what you choose for your bridesmaid dresses/bridal gown?
My husband, Nate, chose the color for our wedding!  He thought it was obvious that it would be “blue” since the reception was on the water.  I loved that he wanted to add his advice into these often bride-only decisions, so we went with blue (which gave me a lot to work with since there are so many shades of blue) and we added in some splash of teal and hot pink for fun.

What did you choose?
Dessy Collection
What color?
Sailor blue
What were you looking for in your bridesmaid dresses?
Since our wedding was going to be in July I wanted a dress for the girls that was comfortable for that time of year. I wanted the dresses to be affordable since we all have a closet full of old bridesmaid dresses we’ve never worn again! I wanted all the girls to pick their own style dress, keeping it within the same color, in hopes they will wear it again.  They all ended up chosing various styles all in chiffon which I think worked well for the 80 degree day we had and they all looked great!  Flair offered a lot of choices as far as colors, style of dress and prices.
How was Stacey/Lindsay/Brooke most helpful?
Stacey was amazing!  She was more than helpful, offering her honesty, experiences and expertise.  She is enthusiastic, energetic and is genuinely excited for her clients upcoming weddings, which is exactly what a bride is in need of!
What did you choose for your bridal gown?
I went to the Boston’s “Running of the brides” in February.  I went after the hustle and bustle of enery driven brides was over at 6pm. I met my sister and mother there, tried on about 10 gowns and found my dress.  The warnings before going would be there are no changing rooms, so I just wore a bathing suit while trying on the gowns.  There were still hundreds of dresses left that late at night and we were able to skip the craziness that morning!
Tips for brides when selecting their BM dresses?  Bridal Gowns?
I would recommend not bringing your entire bridal party to try on bridesmaid dresses if youre chosing one for all of them. Don’t get me wrong, I know you love everyone in your bridal party, which is why you chose them, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to love everyone’s opinions. That being said I realized everyone has different taste, let them chose their own! Stick with a color or style and let them have some say in where they spend their money!
How was your experience at Flair?
Flair is the cutest little bridal boutique. Its small size makes it intimate for you and your bridesmaids, family, and friends. With having the whole store to yourself during your appointment the store really allows you to play around and have fun…and isn’t that what this is all about?!
Where did you get married??
We got married at St. Theresas Chapel in Humarock, MA, my summer church growing up.  Our reception was at Atlantica Restaurant in Cohasset.
What was your favorite moment at the wedding?
We took pictures before the wedding and we met at Scituate Lighthouse.  Our photographer set Nate up on one side of the lighthouse and I had to walk around til I found him.  Seeing each other on our wedding day for the first time was a feeling I will never forget.  I’ve know him for almost a decade, but for some reason I had butterflies in my stomach looking for him around the lighthouse.  AT the wedding my favorite moment was sitting at our sweetheart table together. Listening to the speeches and LAUGHING.  Looking around and seeing everyone celebrating for you is an overwhelming feeling that I’ll never forget sharing with my new husband.  We couldn’t stop smiling.
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
We went to Tahiti and Bora Bora. IT WAS A DREAM
List of vendors?

Spotlight on Kelly & Mike’s Loving & Lighthearted Wedding!

While I love all of my brides, there is a special place in my heart for today’s bride spotlight. She has been one of my very best friends since we bonded over the amazing stylings of the Limited Too in 5th grade (no one else our age seemed to have quite the same level of appreciation…matching your scrunchie to your leggings and what not). Fast forward 15 years to 2011 and you’ll find us just as close (though we’ve dropped the scrunchies since then) and getting married 2 weeks apart. I LOVED having such a close friend going through the stressful, yet amazing, wedding planning process with me, it was such a gift.

Kelly and Mike, you were truly made for eachother and I am soso happy for you and love you both very much! I am looking forward to sharing many more milestones with you in the future (i.e. Kelly and I may have already begun planning a shared 5th anniversary trip to Sandals…)!

Without further ado, here’s a little taste of Mr. and Mrs. Coyne’s FABULOUS day

What was the inspiration for your wedding?

When my husband Mike and I started talking about our wedding, we wanted to make sure that there were aspects of both of us throughout. Our aim was to incorporate our love of music, my love of hydrangea flowers with fun, creative, and handmade details.

What were you looking for in a bridesmaid dress?

As I thought about the bridesmaid dresses, I knew that I wanted a short and whimsical dress that you would want to wear again and again.

What dress did you choose? What color?

Lynn Lugo’s Blake dress in Phlox (such a beautiful blue- looked amazing on all the girls)

How was Lindsay most helpful?

Lindsay asked a lot of questions before my initial appointment, so that she knew what I wanted and what I did not want. She pulled SO many dresses before I arrived for my appointment that it was clear that she understood my vision better than I did! Lindsay was amazing in that she gave my group her undivided attention and was patient with me as I looked for just the right color. When it was time to order the dresses, she worked with all of my bridesmaids who lived in many different states and answered all of their questions through email.

Any tips for brides when selecting their BM dresses?  Bridal Gowns?

In terms of helpful tips, when picking a bridesmaid dress, bring a couple of girls with you to the appointment, and narrow the dress selection to one or two dresses then send the selections to all of your girls- that way you are not overwhelmed by too many opinions. In terms of wedding dresses, I wish someone had told me to be open to all shapes and sizes of dresses before I started looking for my dress. I found that the consultants knew WAY more than I did about what would look right on my body and my bridesmaids body. I would have saved a lot of time and frustration if I let the consultants choose dresses for me from the beginning.

How was your experience at Flair?

Wonderful! Lindsay and Stacey are professional, friendly, and supportive. I wish I could get married again (still to Mike!) so that I could do the process with Flair again and again. I highly recommend working with Flair- they know their inventory and have incredible style!

Where did you get married?

Mike and I met at Providence College in Rhode Island. We were married at St. Dominic Chapel on the Providence College campus-best day of our lives 🙂

What three adjectives would best describe your wedding?

Loving, fun, lighthearted

What was your favorite moment at the wedding?

Too many moments- hard to pick just one! Although, I loved watching all of my closest family and friends dress up in wigs and mustaches and pick out props to enter the photobooth at the reception. I also loved dancing and singing at the top of my lungs to Mike’s college cover band during the last hour of the reception. My bridesmaids and I all threw on the cover bands tshirts on over our dresses and danced the night away!

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

Antigua- Sandal resort for 7 nights, 8 days- insane! Loved every second and would seriously consider moving there- beautiful!

What advice can you give any other Boston/New England Bride?

Have fun, shop around, start as early as you can with planning the ceremony location, reception location, dj, and photographer. Then relax a little and enjoy shopping around for invitations, flowers, and the extras. Mike and I agree- it was the little details that truly made our wedding- so don’t forget the little meaningful details. Also- only pick the girls that know you the best (how to calm you down, how to make you laugh) to be in your bridal party- my girlskept me sane and stuck by myself the day before my wedding-when I needed them the most- love them!!
