Things we LOVE: Say my name, say my name…

OK, I’ve been reading some of the wedding blogs recently and they say to not go overboard on the personalized details at your wedding. All I can say is 1) oops, too late and 2) why not?? I get that your guests probably don’t need a reminder as to whose wedding they are attending (if they do they probably should have been cut from the list to begin with) but I personally am a sucker for personalization.

Why not send subtle reminders to your guests as to who the queen and king are that day? Besides that, I am really proud of the work I’ve put into all the details of my wedding and I literally want my name all over the place. Call me vain if you like, but it’s my day (oh, and his too) and I’ll personalize if I want to! Below are some of my fav personalized goodies. I guess if you want to be a blog follower you can choose just one, but I say, if your budget allows, go for all of them!

1) At just $17.99 for 100, these cocktail napkins are a no brainer. Plus, it can’t hurt for people to be thinking about you along with their alcohol, especially when they may have their checkbooks on them…

2) This hanger is absolutely adorable. My Flair girls got it for me and I am ob-sessed! It will obviously keep my gown looking good on the day of the wedding, but in the meantime it has a place of honor hanging on the drawer of my bedside table. I know all of my other hangers are jealous…

3) My Bridal Bling is a super cute company started by a newly engaged bride. They have personalized goodies for the bride as well as the bridal party, and honestly who can’t use another item of clothing with crystals?? http://www.facebook.com/pages/My-Bridal-Bling/

4) My fiancé is half Chinese and I could not resist getting these fortune cookies for our favors (of course I checked with him first to make sure they weren’t too cheesy but luckily he gave his seal of approval!). The fortune inside has our names, wedding date and thanks our guests for coming; such a nice touch! Plus, they come in tons of colors to match your scheme and they are delish! Of course I broke into them already and am saving the fortune for my wedding memory book. Too cute! http://fancyfortunecookies.com/

How many white dresses can you wear in a year???

The answer is A LOT!!!

The question we get most often is should I wear a different dress to my reception and change out of my bridal gown??? And the answer is…..that it is a totally a personal decision, if you have a gigantic puffy Bridal gown and you want to seriously get down and boogie at your wedding, it may not be a bad idea to get a moderately priced beautiful second dress!

The truth is you really can wear a white dress once in your life so it might as well be at all your wedding festivities like your Rehearsal dinner, Bridal Shower or Engagement Party!!  I mean why not wear white as long as humanly possible right???

We have some seriously cute options, here’s a sneak peak!! Come in and try some on!!

Coren Moore’s “Ruby” Dress in Polka Dot Tulle

Coren Moore’s “Skylar” in Silk Shantung or even more adorable in White Seersucker!!

Jenny Yoo’s “Dylan” in Eastern Silk

57 Grand’s “Boathouse” in silk cotton with a chiffon overlay

57 Grand’s “Chelsea” in Silk Cotton with a Chiffon overlay

57 Grand’s “Ellis” in Ivory Grosgrain

57 Grand’s “Rubin” in Ivory Grosgrain with Ruffle sleeve

How many times will you wear a white dress???

Toms: Maybe the smartest wedding decision you’ll ever make?

OK that might be an exaggeration, but they should definitely be near the top of the list! Let’s face it, when all is said and done all you’re going to want to do at your reception is relax and boogie down. Well, there’s no more comfortable (and cute) boogie down shoe than Toms. Even better, they’re reasonably priced and totally re-wearable after the wedding!   Plus, they now come in sparkly hues fit for a princess bride.  It’s a no brainer ladies! They’d make a super cute bridesmaids’ gift too, so you can all ditch your heels and do the running man ‘til the cows come home (or atleast until the cleanup staff arrives)!

P.S. The BIGGEST Bonus about buying Toms is that they have an amazing movement/charitable spirit.

For every pair of  Toms you buy they give a free pair to a child in need! One for One!

To Spend or Not to Spend??

As any bride can tell you, this is a tough question! Throughout my wedding planning process (spanning the past 14 long months) I’ve had to ask myself, what is worth splurging on and what is not? I think it’s different for everyone. For me, I decided to cut corners on ceremony programs and calligraphy, among other things. I’m sure some of you would gasp in horror at the white address labels on my invitations but to me it really wasn’t a huge deal and it saved me some much needed moolah. Same with the programs, does anyone really read or keep them? I could just see myself taking scarce time and money to create the programs, only to see them left on the church pews. Not happening.

Some things I did splurge on? Almost everything else really! Just kidding (sort of). Seriously though, my main concerns were the venue, bridal gown and bridesmaids’ dresses. I figure if I look good, my girls look good, and the venue is amazing, that’s all anyone will remember, right? OK maybe there are some other important details (the groom I suppose, but they have it so easy – slap on a tux and they all look like 007), but these were my big three. I still cut some corners for my bridesmaids though, allowing them to wear whatever black shoes they want. Hopefully most of them already have something they can wear and if not, they don’t mind investing in a black pair of their choice. So, think about that when you’re choosing your girls’ dresses. Fall in love with a dress that’s a little pricier than you’d like? Splurge on the dress (what people remember most) and consider being lax on the shoes or even hair/makeup (i.e. maybe allow the girls to do their own makeup/hair if they like, to save some money). As for you brides, always splurge on yourself. The sparkly Christian Louboutins patiently waiting in my closet are proof positive that I did!

A Fairy Tale Wedding

Timeless, elegant and classic……in her Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen gown

Now that is how you make an entrance……

Pippa Middleton, was a show-stopper in her ivory Satin based Crepe gown also designed by Burton for McQueen

The long 3 and a half minute walk down the aisle showing off that  9 ft train!!

The happy couple, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge!

Official wedding portrait….how cute are those pageboys and bridesmaids?!?!

Reception dress….. (we told you they were popular!)

Also, a Burton for McQueen creation, a dazzling satin sweetheart gown

with a circle skirt and embellished waist!

The dynamic Pippa Middleton in her reception dress, by Burton in a beautiful green jewel tone!!

So, it is the day after the BIG day.

I have had time to let it all sink in, and I think that it was truly done perfectly. Watching a commoner become a princess, and marry the her long time love was extremely emotional and obviously every little girls dream!

Tradition is extremely important to the royal family and the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge adhered to tradition but were able to have fun and reign in a new younger era of royalty by showing how much they truly loved each other and how much fun they have with each other!

Princess Catherine’s fashion choices were timeless but with a modern twist.  She was reminiscent of the beautiful Grace Kelly but true to her style which is always a modern and classic elegance!  Both of Princess Catherine’s wedding dresses were classic styles that will be copied and will hopefully set some new trends.  Gowns will be  moving more towards  classic, simple lines and less fluff (like our dresses at Flair! OBVIOUSLY!). Cheers to Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen the designs were amazing and truly beyond anything  I could have ever imagined!  What a wonderful day.  It was so nice to celebrate a day filled with love, hope and fashion.  Cheers to the happy couple and may they live happily ever after, just like the fairy tales!

Royal Wedding Fashion predictions!!

I am sure you are just as excited as we are for the Royal Wedding on Friday!!
I mean most of us haven’t lived through a Royal Wedding of this proportion and this is one of most exciting and elaborate affairs to happen in our lifetime!!
So time for predictions!
Although, I believe Kate will go with a British designer, I have a feeling she will go for a  elegant and timeless dress like this amazing Monique Lhuiller Chantilly lace long-sleeve gown with a bateau neckline and hand-appliqued skirt with possibly a longer train mimicking Princess Diana’s show stopping 25 foot train!

But, whatever Kate decided to wear she will be adorned and copied for years and years to come! She certainly will be a style icon for decades to come!!
Let us know what you are predicting Kate Middleton will wear on the BIG day!!

XOXO

Meet our FABULOUS new Intern Joy!!!

Hello Flair blog readers!
My name is Joy and I am Flair Bridal Boutique’s newest intern! I am a freshman at Fisher College in the back bay of Boston, and I am studying to get a bachelor’s degree in business management with a focus in fashion merchandising!
I chose to study fashion merchandising because I believe that it is a great way to be involved in fast moving business while still being able to apply the creative aspects of style. Being an intern at Flair is fantastic because not only is it exciting to help brides in planning their weddings, but I also learn something every time I step through the door.
The top three most valuable lessons that I have learned since starting my internship are that every bride or bridesmaid has a different style preference, you have to give every dress a chance because it always looks different on than on the rack, and most importantly you can’t give up when something is difficult. This last one is key considering I still can’t exactly master clipping a dress during a fitting.
Hope to see everyone in the store soon!
 🙂 Joy
