Bridesmaids’ Jewelry

Find the perfect cherry to top off their look!

Picture a cupcake without the frosting, a burger without the cheese, or a sundae without the cherry. They still look good, but you’ve got to admit, there’s just something missing. It’s those finishing touches that really make each food special (and let’s face it, tasty)! When it comes to bridesmaids, of course the dress is the “meat” of their look, but it’s the jewelry that really completes their wedding day style. So yeah, it’s pretty important to pick just the right pieces! Here are some things to consider – along with some pretty pieces from Flair sprinkled in there!:

Dress Style – If you chose a soft, romantic bridesmaid’s dress, for example, then your jewelry should follow suit. Consider a classic string of pearls as opposed to a chunky statement piece that reads more modern.

Can't decide between pearls and crystals? Mariell says you don't have to!

Dress cut – Not all dress silhouettes go with all styles of jewelry. Higher necklines are trickier to pair with a necklace, for instance, so you may want to consider earrings and/or a bracelet instead. A thicker cut v-neck already takes up plenty of real estate on your girls’ décolletage, so if that’s your chosen style you’ll want to think about a thin, delicate necklace to match.

Dress fabric – These days, bridesmaids’ dresses are getting more and more intricate. Complete with sparkle and even patterns, some dresses today make a loud enough statement all on their own! If that’s the case with your chosen dress, you may want to opt for a simple stud earring that won’t compete with the dress.

A jewelry set is the perfect way to ensure that your earrings and necklace match perfectly!

Whatever you’re considering, decide in advance if you’ll be picking up the jewelry tab or allowing your girls to choose and buy their own accessories. If you’re not footing the bill, you can give them guidelines but really the final decision is theirs, so make sure you’re comfortable with that! Lastly, think about if you’re OK with your girls coordinating their own pieces into their wedding day look. Maybe one girl has an heirloom watch that she never takes off, for example. Are you OK with her wearing it on your big day? If not, think of a way to gently let the girls know that the pieces you/they pick are really the only accessories you envision.

Above all else, shopping for bling should be fun! So, if you’re feeling stressed about it, don’t hesitate to call us and schedule a half-hour accessories appointment. We’re happy to go over your vision and make some recommendations! Happy shopping 🙂

Meet Mariell!

Mariell: Your New Jewelry Best Friend!

Don’t get me wrong, I love living with my husband (most of the time) but I often find myself missing the years I spent living with my girlfriends. Watching trashy TV together (for some strange reason I just can’t get my husband to sit down and watch The Real Housewives with me), having impromptu dance parties, cooking together; I miss it all! One of the hardest things about moving away from them though is that my closet was cut in half! No longer can I roam into their bedrooms and go “shopping” for something new to wear. It was the perfect situation; tons of new (to me) items that I knew would be stylish because well, my friends are fab. I bet it’s something all of us girls miss as we get older, so Flair tries to recreate that experience for you. When you shop at Flair, we want it to feel like you’re shopping in your friend’s closet; easy, quick, fun and full of items handpicked to please! Case in point: our new jewelry designer, Mariell! Flair spent a long time looking for a jewelry designer that has the three necessities: high quality, stylish products, at great prices, with a quick turnaround time. And boy, have we found it! Check out some of our favorite items below and then give us a call to stop by our “closet” and poke through all of our fabulous, new jewelry collection. You can also check out tons of Mariell products on our online site, Frills, from the comfort of your own closet! Happy shopping, Flair friends!

Emmys 2014 Recap!

Flair’s Annual Emmys Recap!

It’s that time of year again! Last night’s Emmy Awards was the first major awards show of the season and all of the Flair girls were glued to their TVs. The first thing we noticed was that some things were a little different about this year’s show. First of all, having the Emmys on Monday was a bit stressful. We had to miss some of the pre-show because of a little thing called work. Thanks alot, Emmys. Secondly, where was Ryan Seacrest? One thing remained unchanged though, and that was the glitz and glamour of the Emmys red carpet!

Some quick trends that we spotted:

1) White is a hot color year round, it’s time to forget that old Labor Day rule! And hey, brides, some of these gowns are giving us a serious alternative bridal gown vibe! We love Sophia Vergara in Roberto Cavalli, Lucy Liu in Zac Posen, Padma Lakshmi in Ralph Rucci and Laverne Cox in Marc Bouwer.

2) Shorter hemlines are showing up on tons of red carpet stars these days, and who can blame them? It’s August…in California. We think that Julia Roberts (in Elie Saab Couture), Kiernan Shipka (in Antonio Berardi), Natasha Lyonne (in Opening Ceremony), and Jessica Pare (in Lanvin) all wisely chose shorter dresses that were still formal enough for the event. Bravo ladies!

3) Patterns are a fun way to stand out on the red carpet, as long as the print is appropriate. We think that Teyonah Parris’ Christian Siriano dress is divine, while Julie Bowen is chic in Peter Som. Amanda Peet looks a little too casual (but comfy!) in her Giambattista Valli dress, and Betsey Brandt’s Alice + Olivia dress just makes us smile!

And lastly, per usual, the Flair girls were varied in our best dressed picks. Not to toot our own horn but we think that’s what makes Flair great! We all have a unique sense of style, which allows us to relate to any and every girl that walks through our doors. Check out our picks and let us know who you loved (and hated)!

Stacey loved Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Carolina Herrera while Jaime’s pick was Heidi Klum in Zac Posen (who was also her date!) and Victoria chose Lauren Parsekian in Lorena Sarbu.

Madison said “Janice Ian cleans up nice” (so true!) and chose Lizzy Caplan in Donna Karan Atelier. Joy thought Sarah Hyland looked adorable in Christian Siriano (and recommended Hayley Paige’s Dori dress for a similar bridal look) and Lindsay fell for Allison William’s dreamy dress by Giambattista Valli Couture.

Golden Globe Gorgeous!

Golden Globe Gorgeous!

Here at Flair, we love, love, love award show season! The red carpet always gives us such amazing inspiration for bridal and bridesmaids’ styling, as well as our own personal styling! All of the Flair girls got together last night (via a massive group text) at 6:00 PM sharp for the start of the season; The Golden Globes! As our Facebook followers already know, each Flair gal had a different choice for best dressed (click here to follow us and see our picks!) and we LOVE that it turned out that way! We each have a unique sense of style, and as a group, we bring a diverse style perspective to our brides and bridesmaids!

There is one thing that we all could agree on though; there were some fabulous trends on the red carpet that will translate perfectly to the 2014 wedding season (and beyond)!

1) High slits – Thinking of a long dress for your bridesmaids, but worried about them being too warm? A slit is the perfect solution; they can look hot while staying cool!

2) Sleeves – No longer does a sleeve scream matronly; tons of stars (Olivia Wilde! Camila Alves! Emma Watson! Julianna Margulies!) rocked a sleeve and looked young and fresh at the same time!

3) Color blocking – In the past, if you wanted to incorporate a second color into your bridesmaids’ dresses it meant one thing; a sash! While that is still true, there are also new, modern ways to incorporate color!

4) Slicked back hair – While we’re not sure if we’ll see many slicked back gals in this year’s wedding photos, we have to admit, it’s a cool, new way to keep the hair out of your face and show off your gorgeous makeup!

5) Bare necks – While we had 6 totally unique best dressed choices, they did have one thing in common; bare necks! Many stars decided to forgo the somewhat over-done statement necklace for the next big thing; a statement earring! We predict many bare necks with statement earrings in wedding photos this year!

While we try to remain neutral about fashion choices (to each her own!) our Golden Globes recap just wouldn’t be complete without atleast a mention of some of our least favorite dresses. Just for fun:

1) We wish our TV had some “blurred lines” over this gown.

2) This gown needs to head back to “Nashville.”

3) This gown is a “big bang” mess.

4) Even a “Charlie’s Angel” couldn’t save this dress.

That’s it! Now we want to know what you liked (and didn’t like)! Can’t wait to hear your picks!!

Happy award show season! XO

Stacey, Jaime, Joy, Madison, Hilleary and Lindsay

Flair Brides are now Haute Brides!

Flair Brides are now Haute Brides!

The idea for Flair came about when our first owner was planning her wedding. She was disappointed in the lack of options out there for her bridesmaids and vowed to give future brides and bridesmaids plenty of fabulous dresses to choose from. 11 years later, and we’re still working hard every day to make sure our customers have the best of what’s out there in the bridal world! So, you can imagine our elation when we came across Haute Bride. Haute Bride began when their fabulous owner/designer was planning her own wedding (sound familiar?) and she just could not find the perfect hair accessory to accompany her gown. So what did she do? She made one herself! 13 years later, and Haute Bride is providing the perfect accessories for any and every bridal gown! We are so excited to have found a “wedding industry kindred spirit” in Haute Bride, and even more excited to bring their gorgeous wares to our brides and bridesmaids. Check them out online and in Flair SOON! We can’t wait to show them to you! In the meantime, feel free to drool over just a small sampling of the amazing press on Haute Bride:

Looking fierce in Your Wedding Day Magazine

Looking fierce in Your Wedding Day Magazine

Get inspired by “Pinterest”

There are many reasons why I am jealous of 2012 brides. As many of you fellow 2011 brides can probably attest, the year after you get married is super fun and all buuuuuuut also filled with some wedding withdrawals. Planning the wedding takes up so much of your time and energy and then afterwards you’re left trying to figure out what to do with all of that extra time. Well, one of the things that I’ve been doing to fill my time is going on Pinterest….constantly. As my husband eloquently put it “you’re on that website a lot.” Yes honey, I am. I am designing our future home, dressing our future kids and planning interesting meals to cook for you, so I’ve kinda got my hands full here.

Sorry, I got a little off topic there. Circling back around, Pinterest is another reason why I am jealous of 2012 brides. It is literally the best way to organize all of your fab wedding ideas. See a flower bouquet online that you like? Pin it! Then, bring any device with internet access to your meeting with your florist and BOOM they can see it quickly and easily. It is crazy that only one short year ago I was bringing torn out magazine photos to my meetings. Ugh, that’s so 2011.

So, check out Flair on Pinterest to steal some of our amazing ideas and get yourself started. Like me, I’m sure you’ll be neglecting your fiancé/husband in no time (sorry hubby, but really I’m doing it for our future)!

Happy Pinning!

XOXO

Lindsay

Bridesmaids’ gifts made easy!!

Your Flair consultants really sacrifice for you. We took an hour out of our day yesterday to walk down Newbury Street in search of fab jewelry and gifts for your best girls. It was grueling but we were happy to do it for you .

Our new obsession is Bobbles and Lace at 251 Newbury Street. They have absolutely amazing pieces at even more amazing prices! The jewelry is for the most part current and trendy, but they have classic styles too. We fell in love with their collection of rose gold jewelry; it’s the perfect combination of classic with an interesting twist. Plus, they have gorgeous bags and clutches if you decide to forgo the jewelry route. There’s something for everyone!

BONUS: They also have a great selection of super cute shoes and clothes so you can reward yourself for finding such great gifts for your girls. Perfection!

If you want a more interactive gift for your ladies, take them to the bangle bar at Alex and Ani (115 Newbury Street). The concept is simple: pick a bangle and then add a charm from their wide selection. They make the perfect memory of your day together and of your appreciation for them. The charm/friendship bracelet has gone modern people and you heard it here first (OK, maybe not first…)!

We’re sure your girls will love whatever you give them but if you want to be 100% sure, take our advice and hit up these Newbury Street hot spots. You’ll thank us!

XOXO

Lindsay

Fashion’s Night Out: A Retrospecive

Hello happy brides and maids! Did you hit up Fashion’s Night Out? It’s the first time this event has taken place in Boston for 15 years and we were pumped to check it out! What a cool concept; fabulous stores stay open late, pump you full of free apps and beverages and give you discount on their wares. Hello, nothing wrong with that! Plus, we secretly loved walking in the middle of a blocked off Newbury Street.

Some Flair favs:

1)      DVF (duh, always a fav) had some AMAZING deals! Stacey found an adorable black lace mini for $325. Perfect for a rehearsal dinner, shower, etc.

2)      Ted Baker had some adorable dresses! They are super fun and flirty, perfect for a bachelorette! One of our favorites was a black cocktail dress with a tiered skirt. The fabric was a layer of tulle with chiffon sewn over top, so unique!

3)      Bobbles and Lace is a new addition to Newbury Street, with a recent move from the North End.  We are sure they’ll be a HUGE success with the venue change! This is definitely the place to hit up for bridesmaids’ jewelry. We’re already planning a trip back there to take a more in depth peek, be on the lookout for more info on them in a future blog…

In short, we hope it doesn’t take another 15 years to have a Boston’s Fashion Night Out! We’re sure it was a huge success and are already looking forward to next year!

Fashionably Yours

Linds & Stace

Stuff We Love: Customizable Jewelry by Amelia Rose!!

We have always loved Amelia Rose Design. Her jewelry is locally made and so thoughtfully done, it makes the perfect gift for anyone! Bridesmaids’ jewelry can be tricky though. Finding the right design in the right colors can be time-consuming.
Let’s face it, when you’re planning a wedding you have a lot on your plate and adding endless hours of searching for the perfect jewelry is not something most brides want or have the luxury to do. Have no fear, Amelia has made it easy for you!
To start, she has three great pieces (2 pairs of earrings and one necklace) to choose from. Once you’ve made your selection there are three metals to choose from to set your jewelry. There’s gold, sterling silver and gold filled (a less expensive option for gold lovers). Finally, you can choose from 14 different colored jewels/crystals to finish the look. It’s so simple, and every bride should be able to find something that she loves! Check it out below:
