A Wonderful Watercolor Wedding

Watercolor Wedding Inspiration!

For the past few years, we’ve been providing the attire for Making Me Events’ annual styled photo shoot. We LOVE working with Phebe, she’s so creative, kind and knowledgeable; the perfect combo for an event planner! All of her shoots come out looking phenomenal, but we must admit, we’re a little partial to this year’s theme. Watercolors were the inspiration, and Phebe achieved it beautifully! The soft colors are perfectly on trend, AND we got to showcase our ombre Theia Petal gown. Wedding gowns with color are continuing to grow in popularity and we couldn’t be more excited. They are fun, flirty and fabulous! We’re so in love with this shoot and we know you will be too! Swoon over some of the stunning shots below and then check out the full shoot on Style Me Pretty!

Love, Yu Bridal Guest Trunk Show!

We are in Love with Love, Yu Bridal!

Summer is such a fun time at Flair! One of the things we’re most excited about is our amazing guest trunk show schedule! We love using the summer months to get to know new designers, and bring their gorgeous fashions to YOU! Up first is Love, Yu Bridal. Owner and designer Ee-Lyn Tang was working in the banking industry, but she always had a passion for fashion. So, she bravely decided to leave her old world behind and enroll in Parsons, and the rest is history! Ee-Lyn started Love, Yu Bridal in 2009 and has been wowing brides all over the world since. Flair has always been a fan, so when we noticed that Love, Yu didn’t have a store in New England, we jumped at the opportunity to show off her gorgeous gowns to our brides! Check out some of our favorite gowns below, and give us a call to see them (and more!) in person at our guest trunk starting next Saturday the 31st! This is a rare opportunity to see her gowns in our area, so act fast. We know these appointments will book up quickly!

Ode to veils!

An Ode to Veils!

Oh, wedding veil, we love you so. You are the icing on the cake and the cherry on top. You are the finishing touch, helping all of us to achieve that full, bridal look. Working where we do, though, we know that some brides just can’t picture themselves in a veil. We get it! Obviously we don’t wear anything like that on a daily basis, and sometimes girls just don’t feel like themselves in a veil. We totally hear where you’re coming from BUT we encourage you to think about the whole picture of your wedding day as you make your veil decision. You’ll likely have hair and make-up service, paparazzi (aka your fab photographer) following you around, and literally everyone you know will be in the same room, at the same time, to celebrate YOU. There’s nothing ordinary or average about that day, and your look needs to match!

Still not convinced? We invite you to drool over these photos of a few of our brides in one of our favorite veils. It’s a simple, classic, chapel length veil with a corded edge that is lightweight and easygoing; perfect for those of us who want “veil light”. This veil literally looks good with every bridal gown…and it’s only $150! Contact us if you want to try it on! If you can’t make it to the store though, we have exciting news for you….Flair is now ONLINE! We are so excited, check us out! Browse fabulous Flair products (perhaps on your couch with a glass of champagne), without fighting for a parking spot on Newbury Street 🙂

Aly looking fab! Thanks Phil Fox Photography!

Get inspired by “Pinterest”

There are many reasons why I am jealous of 2012 brides. As many of you fellow 2011 brides can probably attest, the year after you get married is super fun and all buuuuuuut also filled with some wedding withdrawals. Planning the wedding takes up so much of your time and energy and then afterwards you’re left trying to figure out what to do with all of that extra time. Well, one of the things that I’ve been doing to fill my time is going on Pinterest….constantly. As my husband eloquently put it “you’re on that website a lot.” Yes honey, I am. I am designing our future home, dressing our future kids and planning interesting meals to cook for you, so I’ve kinda got my hands full here.

Sorry, I got a little off topic there. Circling back around, Pinterest is another reason why I am jealous of 2012 brides. It is literally the best way to organize all of your fab wedding ideas. See a flower bouquet online that you like? Pin it! Then, bring any device with internet access to your meeting with your florist and BOOM they can see it quickly and easily. It is crazy that only one short year ago I was bringing torn out magazine photos to my meetings. Ugh, that’s so 2011.

So, check out Flair on Pinterest to steal some of our amazing ideas and get yourself started. Like me, I’m sure you’ll be neglecting your fiancé/husband in no time (sorry hubby, but really I’m doing it for our future)!

Happy Pinning!

XOXO

Lindsay

Spotlight on Lindsay & Jay! A “Flair-y Tail” Wedding!

What is a “Flair-y Tail” wedding you ask?

Once upon a time on a hot day in July after months and months of planning and thinking about her big day, the manager at Flair finally got married!  Although it was one of the hottest days of the year…..hovering around 90 degrees all day….it was a beautiful clear summer day for Lindsay and Jay to tie the knot, and as a guest at the wedding, it truly was a magical and gorgeous day! Here is what our esteemed manager had to say about her big day! XOXO

What was your inspiration for your wedding?

This is going to sound bad coming from someone in the wedding industry but I really didn’t have a theme or any one thing that inspired the wedding. As I got to each to each item (stationary, cake, dresses, etc) I really just chose what appealed to me most visually and hoped that everything looked great together in the end (which it did!). Personally, I am not a huge fan of theme weddings but every bride is different! One theme that did sort of creep out after we made a few decisions is that most everything was black, white and gray, so we ended up with a very neutral wedding. We really only had pops of color in the pink flowers and some pale pink in the cake. Brides, I encourage you to not get too caught up in a theme. Yes, sailboats are adorable on your personalized cocktail napkins, but you don’t necessarily need them on your cake, men’s ties, etc. This is your one chance to just choose things that you love and make it all about you, so go for it!

How did you tie that in to what you choose for your bridesmaid dresses/bridal gown?

After months of cutting out wedding gown photos from magazines, I found that all of the ones I loved had a few things in common: mermaid, strapless, ruffles. Turns out, I had a very specific style! I found just that at Kleinfeld in NYC; it was a great experience, though I would have loved the ease of purchasing my gown at Flair!!

I felt a lot of pressure when it came to the bridesmaids’ dresses. First things first, I wanted to make sure my girls loved their dress. Secondly, I work so close to the bridesmaids’ process that I really felt pressure to do something unique. This lead me to my two tone dresses. I am madly in love with them! A big thanks to Lynn Lugo for doing the two tone for me, I highly recommend it to brides looking to set their dresses apart a little.

What did you choose?

I chose the Tate dress by Lynn Lugo; gorgeous! Yes, I went with a trendier style with the one shoulder, but that truly didn’t bother me. It was my favorite and the girls’ favorite so that’s what we went with. Don’t overthink it brides! If you find one that everyone (or most everyone) likes by all means STOP LOOKING and go for it!

What color(s)?

Keeping with the neutral theme that developed, I went with a silver top and a gunmetal skirt. My sister/MOH had a black crystal A.B. Ellie belt to set her apart a little (more like a lot…she had more bling than me…). I love neutrals, it makes it much easier for the girls to rewear (fingers crossed) and you can always add color in the flowers, shoes, etc.

Tips for brides when selecting their BM dresses? Bridal Gowns?

1) Don’t overthink it! Brides are constantly asking themselves “Is this too trendy” “Does this go with the table linens?” “What will soandso think?” If you like it, don’t question it, go for it! You don’t want to look back and wish you’d gone another way.

2) When you find a dress you love, stop looking! There are lots of pretty dresses out there so you could torture yourself and keep looking but you’ll just end up stressed and tried.

3) Know from the start that you may not make all of your bridesmaids’ happy. Pretty self-explanatory, but it’s true. If they’re your good friends they’ll wear whatever you want them to. You’re the one that has to look at the photos for forever, so make sure YOU like how it looks first and foremost!

4) Be ready to do some tailoring, every dress needs some. I had some and all of my bridesmaids did too. So, even the “experts” aren’t immune. It’s just a fact of bridal life so get used to it!

When and where was your wedding?

I knew from the start that I wanted a chic, downtown wedding. We were married in St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Back Bay with the reception at the Skywalk at the top of the Prudential Center. Great views for our out of town guests!

What was your favorite part of the wedding?

Our first dance! In the last two weeks before the wedding we decided to add 6 dance lessons to our already packed schedule; certifiable but was worth EVERY minute. It was nice to escape and take the lessons together and then wow our guests with an amazing choreographed dance. I will never forget their reactions!

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

We are waiting to honeymoon until the winter. It’s so nice in New England right now but we’ll be glad to escape the snow in a few months! We’re thinking Hawaii or the Atlantis in the Bahamas.

Let Photographers do their job!

It’s not often that I write a post about my personal opinion but…..here is something new that I have been seeing at wedding after wedding and it has really caught my attention.  I realize how lucky we are to live in the age of digital cameras and phones with the ability to take gorgeous pics and videos.  This is super exciting and it seems we get even more excited about it at weddings.

But, I noticed while at a friends wedding a few weeks ago….as we all paused to watch this beautiful bride walk down the aisle….not everyone was enjoying the sight of a woman walking to her future husband, so excited and in love….. I looked around during the most important part of the wedding and realized what was happening all around me.  It was like paparazzi surrounding Lindsay Lohan….people leaning over other people, stepping in the aisle just to try and get a shot of the beautiful bride approaching the alter.

This is when I realized, um hello this bride and groom probably paid thousands and thousands of dollars for PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS!!!  Your pics will probably turn out blurry, or have half of someone face chopped off, so why the heck are you ruining the moment trying to get a fuzzy pictures, when you were asked to be a guest at the wedding, not the photographer.

I guess what I am trying to say is put your cameras, phones, ipods, ipads and everything else away….at least during the ceremony and PLEASE, PLEASE let the PROFESSIONALS do their jobs.  That is what they were hired to do.  Sit back and enjoy the most magical part of the wedding, take in the sight of two people pledging their undying love for one another!  I promise the pros will get it right and you will be able to enjoy a beautiful and hopeful wedding ceremony.

So, save your photographs for the cocktail hour and reception!!

Take a look and some of our favorite professional Photographers in the Boston area!!
