Destination Weddings: Closer than you think!

Photo Shoot Fabulousness: Destination Weddings Edition!

Not to overstate things, but New England is literally the best place to live in the entire world. Bar none. End of story. OK, we may be just a little biased and yes, it’s true, we have to put up with some killer winters, but our stunning Springs, Summers and Falls make it all worthwhile! Plus, with all of our fabulous little states so close together, you can take an amazing vacation without going more than a couple hours from home. Also, we have the Red Sox, Bruins, Patriots and Celtics. Boom. Enough said. Going back to vacations though, on the same note, New England brides can throw a stunning destination wedding without ever having to board a plane! There are tons of amazing spots around New England that will be new to you and your guests, but still close to home. The smart, talented staff at Southern New England Weddings Magazine realized what a destination wedding gem New England really is, and they decided to dedicate their new issue to just that! Check out this stunning Nantucket themed shoot to see how easy it is to create a fresh, destination wedding look in our own backyard. Plus, Flair provided some of the gorgeous attire for this shoot, so yeah, it’s pretty epic! Grab the new edition of Southern New England Weddings today to see the entire shoot and start to plan your close to home, destination wedding!

Sigh. We're swooning already and we're just on the cover!

True, the weather in New England can be unpredictable, but who cares when you consider how stunning this overcast shot is!

The Boston Globe + Flair = A Match Made in Wedding Heaven!

The Boston Globe + Flair = A Match Made in Wedding Heaven!

We were so honored to be a part of the Boston Globe’s recent weddings issue! (Haven’t seen it? Click here!) It just seemed like a natural fit for us to be in the “Seaside Elegance” section. While we cater to ANY and ALL types of weddings, we do seem to work with an awful lot of brides going for the nautical theme. Hey, we’re in New England afterall! We’ve got Newport down south, Kennebunkport up North and the Cape in the middle…New England was made for elegant, seaside weddings!

Can't you just see this gown (and you!) frolicking in the sand?

Can’t you just see this gown (and you!) frolicking in the sand?

First up in the article, we have the gorgeous Hathaway gown by Jenny Yoo. Is she a stunner or what?! Plus, she is perfect for a seaside wedding. The tulle is so light weight and comfortable, and when it catches that sea breeze, look out! Gorgeous photos ahead! Plus, the Hathaway gown actually has hidden panels of tulle that can pull up to create different necklines. So, if you’re running around in the sand and you want some extra support, pull those babies up to create a soft halter or v-neck top, for example. Genius!

Next up, Coren Moore’s adorable Courtney and Nolan dresses were featured. I mean, are these perfect for a New England wedding or what? The two-tone aspect gives them a bit of a unique edge, while still keeping with that classic, seaside look. Plus, that pleated skirt looks great on literally everyone! Trust us, we know!

Stuffy, old guestbooks, watch out!

Lastly, a big shout out to our friends at Whim Events who were also featured in the article! They are creative geniuses! We are always so floored by their amazing ideas, and this one is no exception! In lieu of a traditional guest book, each guest gets a slip of paper when they walk into the ceremony. On it, they can write some advice, words of wisdom or just a special note to the couple. Then, each guest slips their note into a jar for the couple to open on either their 1, 3 or 10 year anniversary. How amazing is that? For years to come the couple can relive their big day and connect with their friends and family. We LOVE this and we LOVE Whim!

Thanks to the Boston Globe for all the love, and thanks to all of our brides for inspiring us every day (seaside brides or not)! XOXO

A Perfect Combination!

Today at Flair we got to discussing some classic combos. Peanut butter and jelly, peas and carrots, bread and butter….can you tell that we had this discussion around lunch time? The dynamic duo that really sparked our conversation though cannot be found in the fridge; Coren Moore and Kate Spade!

Here’s how the convo got started…our lovely FedEx guy dropped off a huge box of adorable dresses for our Coren Moore trunk show at the same time that we were drooling over Kate Spade’s flash sale website (did you see it? GREAT deals!). It didn’t take long for us to realize how well these two fit together! They’re preppy, classic, and oh so fashionable.

Kate Spade

We just so happen to have a Kate Spade store on our block, so we decided to take a little field trip for some inspiration. We were kids in a candy store! Everything in there is so colorful and fun; very Flair! One piece really stuck out; a gorgeous navy and white striped necklace that Stacey ended up buying for herself. It’s the perfect combo of preppy and modern. We love it! We couldn’t help trying it with some of the Coren Moore dresses we had in and it literally looked good with every single one. So, for any Coren Moore brides/maids out there looking for jewelry, check out Kate Spade. While some of her pieces can get a little pricey, they are a great investment and something that can truly be worn again and again!

Our Coren Moore Trunk Show ends May 19th!  Get those orders in!!

Happy Spring!

Mis-Matched Bridesmaids Dresses!

While we consider ourselves to be pretty fearless most of the time, lately alot of our brides have been saying something to us that truly makes us shudder: “I really like the look of Molly Sims’ bridal party.” <Cue classic horror movie music> Gasp!

If you haven’t seen her bridal party, do a quick Google search. Find it? OK good. It really is gorgeous, and we love to see someone doing something a little different BUT we’ve had a hard time recreating that look for our brides…until now!

Jenny Yoo came out with her first “social collection” this season, which includes pretty prints, luxurious laces and preppy polka dots. They pair perfectly with our already fabulous collection of solid dresses, to help you achieve that effortless mix and match look that so many brides are going for these days. Check out these fab photos from her recent shoot to get a sneak peek and if you like what you see (and we think you will) give us a call to come see it in person!

Anna Elyse’s NEW Silk Essence Collection!

OK I’ve got a question, when is this whole economy thing going to turn around? Anybody know? I’ve been doing pretty diligent work on my end, revamping my Spring/Summer wardrobe and all. Now I understand that that alone may not be enough to turn the whole economy around (though my husband might beg to differ…he put me on a budget the other day…silly Jay) so we’re trying to help out at Flair as well.

Having planned our own weddings during this economy, Stacey and I understand how hard it is to ask your bridesmaids to spend a ton of money on their dresses. We also know, though, that you want them to look super cute. Know who else understands all of that? One of our fabulous designers…Anna Elyse! So, she has come to the rescue with a gorgeous new fabric called Silk Essence. It looks just like real silk, but since it’s a poly you save tons of money! For such a great deal you probably think your options are going to be kinda limited though, right? Wrong! There are about a million colors to choose from and most of Anna Elyse’s styles are available in her new fabric. So, bottom line, come check it out ASAP! We just got our first sample in and it’s adorable! We know you’ll agree.

Happy Shopping!

Get inspired by “Pinterest”

There are many reasons why I am jealous of 2012 brides. As many of you fellow 2011 brides can probably attest, the year after you get married is super fun and all buuuuuuut also filled with some wedding withdrawals. Planning the wedding takes up so much of your time and energy and then afterwards you’re left trying to figure out what to do with all of that extra time. Well, one of the things that I’ve been doing to fill my time is going on Pinterest….constantly. As my husband eloquently put it “you’re on that website a lot.” Yes honey, I am. I am designing our future home, dressing our future kids and planning interesting meals to cook for you, so I’ve kinda got my hands full here.

Sorry, I got a little off topic there. Circling back around, Pinterest is another reason why I am jealous of 2012 brides. It is literally the best way to organize all of your fab wedding ideas. See a flower bouquet online that you like? Pin it! Then, bring any device with internet access to your meeting with your florist and BOOM they can see it quickly and easily. It is crazy that only one short year ago I was bringing torn out magazine photos to my meetings. Ugh, that’s so 2011.

So, check out Flair on Pinterest to steal some of our amazing ideas and get yourself started. Like me, I’m sure you’ll be neglecting your fiancé/husband in no time (sorry hubby, but really I’m doing it for our future)!

Happy Pinning!

XOXO

Lindsay

Let them eat……not cake!

As I was making my grocery list this week, I realized how boring that I am. I get the same things every week. My husband and I have quesadillas every Thursday night, for example, and I bring the same lunch to work every day. So I said to myself “Self, it is time to shake things up!” I have some peanut butter left over from my insane non-perishable food shopping spree to prepare for Irene, so I decided to use that and spread it on rice cakes as a new lunch idea. OK, I know I am no Wolfgang Puck but it is a bold move for this boring grocery goer (who tries to eat really healthy during the week)!

All of this grocery business got me thinking about ways to shake up the old wedding cake routine. Granted, it is and probably always will be the most popular wedding dessert, but there have to be other options. With a little google action (and a few ideas from my own dessert loving brain) I found a few fab alternatives!

1)      Wedding barista: OK, so offering coffee at your wedding isn’t new, but imagine having a serious barista there making cappuccinos, lattes, hot chocolate and more. How impressive would that be?! Plus, the way I like coffee it’s basically a dessert in itself…

2)      Caramel and Candy apples: Since it’s October, I couldn’t resist this option. It’s perfect for fall weddings and honestly who doesn’t love those messy things? Plus, the food pyramid tells us that we need several servings of fruit a day so this is actually a really healthy and responsible choice. OK, that might be a stretch…

3)      Cake pops: Don’t want to leave the dance floor to sit down and have a full piece of cake? Have no fear! Cake pops are an adorable alternative consisting of a round bit of cake, covered in chocolate and then stuck on a stick; looks like a lollipop, tastes like cake. They’re portable, clean and delicious! Plus they’re so small you can eat like 12 and not feel guilty.

4)   Ice cream truck: The little ice cream truck jingle makes us all feel like kids again, and who doesn’t need that every once and awhile? So, later in the night have an ice cream truck pull up outside your venue and have your guests choose from classic treats that will take them back in time.

Happy sweets hunting!

XOXO

Lindsay

“If I Could Turn Back Time”

Probably the biggest regret I have when I look back on my wedding planning is that I didn’t consider videography more seriously. We talked about it once or twice but ultimately decided that that was one area where we could save some money.

Cut to today, as the Flair girls are crying watching the beautiful videography of Boston Wedding Films, I Do films, Kiss the Bride films and more. Now I really really wish I had one of my own. Seriously, call up Michael J Fox because I want to go back in time and right this wrong!

OK, let’s face facts though; videography is not cheap. You’re already paying a pretty penny for a photographer so it can be easy to, like me, think that videography is not necessary. However, to have an audible recording of your vows, a full visual of you walking down the aisle…priceless! Grab some tissues and check out some of our fav videos on Boston Weddings Films’ blog and we’re sure they will convince you of the same!

Regretfully yours,

Lindsay 😉

Spotlight on Deb & TJ’s Wedding!

Deb was married on 6.18.11 to T.J. on the water at Ocean Edge Resort and Golf Club in Brewster, MA.  They had over 250 guests in attendance.

What was the inspiration for your wedding? Cape Cod.  My fiancé’s family summer on the Cape.  We love being outside, at the beach and enjoying a nice relaxing summer.  We wanted everyone to experience why we love the Cape so much.

Give us three words to describe your wedding? Amazing, best time of my life, humorous…..obviously Deb had a hard time sticking to just 3!

What is important to you on your big day, except for marrying your fiancé? The Party of course!  And our guests.  We want everyone to have a good time.  We want a big fun party with delicious food and drink.

You purchased your bridesmaid dresses from Flair.  Tell me why you selected your dresses? We were in Flair in October of last year.  I knew that I wanted strapless and a dress above the knee that had a Capey feel.  I fell in love with Coren Moore’s Nolan dress.  The girls could easily wear it again, it is short, has pockets and is adorable.  Plus the dress was available in the hydrangea blue color that I love – Riviera Blue.

Was it easy to pick out your bridesmaid dress? I had an amazing time at Flair.  Stacey was my consultant, she was energetic, bubbly – we were two peas in a pod.  And Lindsay was super helpful.  She answered all the questions that I had about sizing for one of my bridesmaids who had a baby.

Share your secrets with brides who are still hunting for the perfect bridesmaid dress? Make sure to decide on what you would like first, but still be open to suggestions.  Do your research.  All of the designers have great websites.  Visit the sites, narrow down your choice to the style and type you love.  This is super important, as it will make your appointment time run much more smoothly.  Bring no more than 4 of your most trusted advisers to the appointment.  They will help you get to a decision quickly.

What did you enjoy most about planning your wedding? Dress shopping of course! Kenneth Pool was my designer for my bridal gown, I tried it on last summer in NY and fell in love, then eventually bought it from the only place in MA that carries him, Christina’s in Andover. I loved looking for and finding my dress and bridesmaid dresses.  It was also a HUGE relief when we found our venue, then we could move forward with the rest of the details.

What was your favorite part of your BIG day? My favorite moment(s) were during cocktail hour (and the reception, too)–talking to everyone and looking around at all of our friends and family that were there to celebrate with us.

Words of wisdom for all those brides planning a wedding?

I have a few words of wisdom that I learned along the way: If you’re looking to get married in the “high” season (anytime other than winter, basically), book way in advance (at least 10 months for most in-demand places, i.e. the Cape).

Have a contingency plan–you may not need it, but make sure there’s an alternative (for EVERYTHING) due to inclimate weather (if you’re getting married outside or want to do pictures outside); know all of the details about what will be changed, substituted, etc.

Lastly, let your guests enjoy all that Boston/Cape Cod/New England has to offer…incorporate the local “flair” into your wedding (favors, centerpieces, invitations, maps/things to do, etc.). Your guests that aren’t from the area will love learning more about your favorite spot!

Where did you Honeymoon? Our honeymoon was AWESOME! Greece for about a week (Athens, Santorini, Crete), Turkey for about a week (Istanbul and Antalya–southern “turquoise” coast) and Italy for a week (Amalfi coast, Capri, Rome). We had 3 weeks to travel and wanted to enjoy a mix of relaxation (Santorini!) and sightseeing (Rome, Athens)
