A Perfect Combination!

Today at Flair we got to discussing some classic combos. Peanut butter and jelly, peas and carrots, bread and butter….can you tell that we had this discussion around lunch time? The dynamic duo that really sparked our conversation though cannot be found in the fridge; Coren Moore and Kate Spade!

Here’s how the convo got started…our lovely FedEx guy dropped off a huge box of adorable dresses for our Coren Moore trunk show at the same time that we were drooling over Kate Spade’s flash sale website (did you see it? GREAT deals!). It didn’t take long for us to realize how well these two fit together! They’re preppy, classic, and oh so fashionable.

Kate Spade

We just so happen to have a Kate Spade store on our block, so we decided to take a little field trip for some inspiration. We were kids in a candy store! Everything in there is so colorful and fun; very Flair! One piece really stuck out; a gorgeous navy and white striped necklace that Stacey ended up buying for herself. It’s the perfect combo of preppy and modern. We love it! We couldn’t help trying it with some of the Coren Moore dresses we had in and it literally looked good with every single one. So, for any Coren Moore brides/maids out there looking for jewelry, check out Kate Spade. While some of her pieces can get a little pricey, they are a great investment and something that can truly be worn again and again!

Our Coren Moore Trunk Show ends May 19th!  Get those orders in!!

Happy Spring!

Bridal Trunk Show December 7th-9th!

Photo By: Kate McElwee Photography |  Flowers By: Blooms of Hope

December is a magical time of year in Boston. I know what you’re thinking, it’s freezing cold outside and it gets dark at 4:30, what’s so magical about that? I agree; I’m not thrilled about all of that, but for some reason it’s OK in December because it’s helping to set the mood for the holidays. More darkness means more time to view the lovely twinkly lights on Comm Ave. Cold? Snuggle up with your honey and watch “A Charlie Brown Christmas” (or sub in your favorite holiday movie…that just happens to be mine).

December is also magical because of Flair’s upcoming bridal trunk show (duh, you knew we’d bring it back to Flair somehow)! The weekend of December 7th-9th, we’ll have extra bridal gowns in the store and will be offering extra discounts for placing a bridal gown order that weekend. It’s the most wonderful time of the year! So, if you’re getting bored of buying gifts for others, treat yourself to the gift of a fabulous bridal gown at a fabulous price!

Call or email us to make an appointment ASAP, these will go quickly!! Hope to see you soon!

Keep Warm 😉

Bridal Spotlight-A Very Flair Wedding!

What was your inspiration for your wedding?

Um, this is probably a faux pas especially since I am in the bridal industry but we had no inspiration for our wedding…I know that sounds bad.  We were just really excited to be celebrating and I look at wedding blogs daily so I took little things I liked from the past two years of blog stalking and threw them together!

How did you tie that inspiration in to what you choose for your bridesmaid dresses/bridal gown?

I guess if I had to say anything about the wedding style, I wanted it to be pretty timeless.  I wanted neutral colors on the girls and dresses that complimented each of the girl’s figures and made them feel great.  For my bridal gown I wanted something I would always look back on and think that I picked something that was my style and was classic like our venue!

What did you choose?

My bridal gown was a custom Coren Moore gown.  They made the Chloe with lace and made the front a deeper sweetheart and the back was brought down just slightly.  I added a customized gorgeous belt from A.B. Ellie!  She did an amazing job customizing The Mae belt for me by adding pearls and tons of extra beads to make sure the belt looked like it was a part of my dress!

My girls wore Jenny Yoo bridesmaid dresses most of which are now discontinued.  My maid of honor Carly wore the Thea, my sister Allison wore the Margauex, my sister-in-law Ali wore the Riley, Casey wore the Mackenzie, and Lily wore the fabulous Aidan!  The bridesmaids all wore some awesome accessories that I found a few years ago and since then, I have forgotten who made them – oops! However, I do know that my maid of honor’s necklace was made by the talented Kristen Kuhen.

What color?

I actually did mostly different colors!  Carly and Casey were in Slate Eastern Silk, Allison was in Slate Crinkle Chiffon, Lily was in Charcoal Lux Chiffon, and Ali was in Pewter Shantung.

What were you looking for in your bridesmaid dresses?

I was really open to whatever the girls wanted. I guided them in the direction that I liked and then let them choose.

What were you looking for in your bridal gown?

I actually looked all over for my bridal gown.  I knew I liked lace and I wanted a fitted style but I was hung-up on a ball gown for some reason.  I kept begging to try on ball gowns even though I was advised against it by everyone (including Lindsay)!  I finally realized I was just too short to be able to pull off the big dress, so I settled for a fuller trumpet silhouette. Coren’s dress was perfect because when I danced I felt like such a princess with the full skirt!

Tips for brides when selecting their BM dresses?  Bridal Gowns?

Timing is everything!  There is a method to our madness, I promise.  You have to do things in order for your look to be cohesiveYour venue is 1st, then move on to your bridal gown, then work on the girls’ dresses and mothers of the bride and groom.  Last but not least help your significant others pick their outfits!

How was your experience at Flair?

Well I own the store….so it was pretty good! 😉

Where did you get married??

Zak and I got married at The Harvard Club on Commonwealth Ave.  I can’t say enough about how much I love this venue! It was such a gorgeous and unique venue in the city, so traditional and cozy.  Zak wants to move in he loves it that much!

What three adjectives would best describe your wedding?

Funny, Elegant, and Light Hearted!

What was your favorite moment at the wedding?

The entire ceremony! I LOVED walking down the aisle because I thought it was so exciting and emotional all at once.   Our ceremony was very “us” we had a family friend marry us so he really knew that we wanted it to be a celebration of life and love. We also wrote our own vows which was nerve racking but in the end it really made our wedding so much fun and personal!

What advice can you give any other Boston/New England Bride?

Write your own vows, hire the best vendors, don’t sweat the small stuff, have fun, dance, eat, don’t drink, take tons of pictures, do a first look if you can, hire a videographer (we remembered nothing after), make sure to leave plenty of time for hair and makeup, take a ton of pictures, smell your flowers, enjoy every single moment and most of all have fun!

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

We went to Couples Swept Away, in Negril Jamaica, thanks to the amazing Marisa Cole at Sensational Travel.

500 down and 100 days to go!

Just a mere 500 days ago I got engaged.  It is actually crazy to think that it was that long ago that my fiancé asked me to marry him.  And, what a LOOOOOOONG 500 days it has been.  Let me tell you about my engagement journey.

Now, if you have been to Flair in the past year or so you might know that I was supposed to get married on October 1, 2011.  We had set the perfect date and picked an amazing venue.  We had started down the long road of hiring vendors, ordering dresses, tasting endless desserts, sending out save-the-dates, taking engagement pictures all over Boston and whittling down a guest list to a manageable number.  We were on our way to having an amazing fall wedding in Boston!

After a particularly fun day of wedding planning, I came home with the perfect rehearsal dinner dress and shoes ready to show my fiancé, Zak.  Before I could show him my fab finds, he proceeded to drop the most life changing news I would ever hear.

His doctor had called earlier in the day to tell him that a recent test had come back showing signs that he had cancer. After the shock and disbelief wore off, I realized what now really mattered in our life was for my fiance to be happy and healthy.  Our lives were changed so radically in just a few days. We went from fabulous wedding tastings and vendor meetings to blood tests and chemotherapy treatments (sooooo not as fun).

It was a rough summer, especially for Zak who was taking all his treatments in stride.  But, luckily we were able to spend quality time with family and friends who helped us every step of the way.  After many long discussion with doctors and family we decided we had to postpone our perfect fall wedding.  Although, I was disappointed and sad; when it rained on October 1st, we laughed and looked forward to our 2nd perfect wedding date in June.

It has been almost a year since that awful April day, and again Zak and I are back in full wedding planning mode, even more exciting, Zak is now in remission, and we can finally celebrate!

As I look back on the past year I am truly amazed and thankful for such an amazing group of family, friends, doctors, nurses and one fabulous co-worker (Lindsay) who truly supported both of us though a very tough and not fun time in our life.   But I also realized what an important role all the brides and bridesmaids have played who have come into Flair in this past year and  how they have helped me get through it on a daily basis without ever really knowing it.  It felt so wonderful to have been a part of the wedding planning process for so many amazing women.  To not have to think about test results and blood counts for even an hour was such a wonderful escape. So, to my amazing 2011-2012 brides & bridesmaids, I can’t thank you enough for the laughter and fun you brought to me every single day!

So, after a long 500 days of engagement what have I learned??

Well, the most important thing was to never sweat the small stuff.   Corny but true. Although no one likes to think about worst case scenarios, things could always be worse.  If you go into every situation calm, cool and collected you will certainly yield the best results!

Secondly, it was to to hire the most trusted, amazing and understanding vendors in the business. After Zak had been diagnosed and we realized we would not being having our Fall wedding, we had to make some seriously not fun phone calls.  Understanding and caring is an understatement, I could not ask for a  group of more professional and amazing vendors and friends in the wedding industry if I tried! I feel so so lucky to have picked such great people to work with.

Last but certainly not least, surround yourself with the people you care about the most.  Your wedding should be about you and the person you are marrying, but it is also very important to involve your close family and friends.  They will be the ones to help you when and if things ever get too overwhelming, they will be your sounding board when you can’t pick the perfect flowers, they will help you when you cant decide between the two perfect bridal gowns, and they will tell you nicely but firmly when you really are being a bride-zilla! Don’t forget  in the midst of fighting over the perfect napkin color, what the BIG day is really all about.  It is about the love shared between two people pledging to be together, through thick and thin, sickness and health, good times and bad, no matter what……..even if you decide to just go with plain white napkins!

Truly grateful,

Stacey xoxo

(I started this blog when I really had 100 days to go until the wedding …it took a little longer than expected to write it.  I hope you understand that I did not change the title of the blog because it wouldn’t have sounded as cool,  we only have 84 days to go now!)
You are probably wondering who all those amazing vendors are that I was talking about, they really are awesome, TRUST ME!

Spotlight on Katie’s Perfect Pink Wedding!

We are on a roll with some seriously gorgeous weddings!!  We are so lucky to be a part of so many wonderful bride’s weddings, and Katie is no exception.  Every time she graced us with her presence at Flair we all left with a smile on our face!! She is warm, sweet and extremely kind!  Her wedding was infused with pink and complimented her venue in the Adirondacks Mountains. Enjoy her perfectly pink wedding.

What was your inspiration for your wedding?

The color pink and the Adirondacks!

How did you tie that inspiration in to what you choose for your bridesmaid dresses/bridal gown?

Our bridesmaids wore Coren Moore silk shantung azalea (light pink) dresses, I wore an azalea Coren Moore bridal sash for the reception and the groom and groomsmen wore pink Vineyard Vines ties.  The Coren Moore dresses and my gown were a perfect fit for a day wedding in the Adirondack Mountains.

What were you looking for in your bridesmaid dresses?

I wanted our bridesmaids to look and feel great in their dresses!  Two of our bridesmaids helped me select a handful of different styles from Coren Moore’s bridesmaid collection for each of them to choose from.  Though I did not let our bridesmiads decide on the color of their dresses, I wanted them to be able to pick a style of dress that they felt great in.  When you look and feel good in what you are wearing the day is always more fun!

How was Stacey/Lindsay/Brooke most helpful?

Stacey, Lindsay and Brooke were all very helpful!  Brooke helped me each time I visited Flair, she had wonderful suggestions and ideas for outfitting our bridal party.  All three girls assisted with placing orders and notifying me when anything arrived at the store.  Everyone at Flair was incredibly friendly, accommodating and responsive.

What did you choose for your bridal gown?

Coren Moore’s Chloe Gown in ivory silk shantung.  I wore an ivory bridal sash and my mother’s veil for the ceremony and an azalea bridal sash for the reception.

How was your experience at Flair?

Fantastic!  I highly recommend Flair to any bride for both her bridal gown and bridesmaid dresses.

Where did you get married?

We were married at Sacred Heart Church in Lake George, NY.  Our Reception was at The Sagamore Resort on Lake George in Bolton Landing, NY.

What was your favorite part of the Wedding?

All of it!

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

For our honeymoon we vacationed at the Four Seasons Resort Lana’i at Manele Bay.  We highly recommend this location to any couples looking to honeymoon in Hawaii, it was so much fun!

List of Vendors?

Bridal Gown: Coren Moore from Flair

Veil: My Mothers!

New York Bridal Market at a Glance

Saturday October 15th – Day 1

9:30 AM – Lindsay and Stacey board the Amtrak to NYC! A few episodes of Glee on our computers and we’re there!

1:30 PM – Struggle to catch a cab at Penn Station and Lindsay’s watch goes missing…not a good start…

2:00 – We check into the fabulous Omni Berkshire Hotel in Midtown, thanks to our friends at the Omni in Boston. Seriously, if there is an Omni wherever you are traveling, STAY THERE! They are all so classy and gorgeous, we were in heaven!

3:00 – Explore Midtown a little…we search for a Starbucks that the concierge told us was a block away, but never find it (more on that later) and end up getting sandwiches nearby.

4:00 – Make ourselves pretty and presentable (takes longer than you’d think).

4:30 – Wind ruins our hair as we wait for a cab outside of the hotel…Stacey and Lindsay are NOT happy.

5:00 – Check into Pier 94 (where bridal market is held) and have our first meeting with Anna Elyse, yay! We don’t want to give too much away but let’s just say we are SO excited about her new bridal line. We absolutely fell in love with one gown with a textured skirt…stay tuned! She is expanding and growing her bridesmaids’ line as well and added two new fabrics, chiffon and charmuese. Go Annie!

6:30 – Lindsay and Stacey struggle to figure out where to go to dinner. They end up at the hotel restaurant (Fireside) like major losers.  The salad in the parmesan bowl was fab though!

7:30 – Conference call with Flair’s owner Christine to discuss what we’ve seen so far. We are so excited already!

8:30 – Asleep…not kidding. The beds at the Omni were too amazing to resist for too long and poor Stacey is under the weather. Such a trooper!

Sunday October 16th – Day 2

6:00 AM – Time to wake up and get ready! We are sure to use ample Rave hairspray to avoid yesterday’s windy fiasco. P.S. Stacey confirms that the Omni has the best hotel shower EVER. Bonus!

7:30 – We’re out the door and immediately go looking for Starbucks…which we again did not find. Eventually we stumbled across one several blocks away (with the help of our smart phones – seriously, what did we do before those things?!). A fabulous man in a morning coat compliments Lindsay’s trench and sunglasses (the glasses are forever 21, he thought Tom Ford). Her day is made. Then, a turn for the worse: our lovely cab driver starts to drive away with Stacey still half way out the door. She swung her way in though, crisis averted.

9:00 – Appointment to see a potential new bridal designer, Junko Yoshioka. Such nice guys and gorgeous dresses! We have the best job ever!

10:00 – Time to meet with the Jenny Yoo ladies! We love them! Let us start by saying that Jenny has such a good idea for a bridesmaid’s dress that she is in the process of patenting it. Yes, you heard us, a patent. Can’t wait to show you ladies when the samples come in!

11:00 – Meeting with Coren Moore and her team. They are THE sweetest ever and we love hanging out with them, and of course seeing their new styles! We love their new chiffon pieces, which we’ll have in the store in the coming WEEKS! Eeek, so excited!! Plus, later in the season we’ll have a gorgeous bridesmaid’s dress with a ruffle detail and you know how we love us a ruffle!

12:00 PM – Quick trip to see our accessories designer, A.B. Ellie. Ashley is a true genius when it comes to bridal and bridesmaids’ belts. They really add SO much detail to our dresses. We added a few new pieces for the store and we know our girls are going to L-O-V-E them! Plus, we love seeing Ashley and her sister, they are so down to earth and fabulous!

12:30 – Off to Nicole Miller! Her dresses are so much fun, we love seeing them on the gorgeous models. Plus, she has A-MAZING party dresses that are really well priced!

1:30 – MUCH needed lunch break! Stacey and Lindsay wander the waterfront area for awhile and stumble upon a cute little pub. Slow service but great food, just the pick me up we needed!

3:00 – Lynn Lugo time! We are SOSO excited about Lynn’s new styles! In particular, there are three new tops with ruffle details that we fell in LOVE with. They are super cute and wearable, trust us! Plus, she came out with some great soft colors that we think will be very popular this year. Lynn and her husband Pete are the cutest couple ever, so we just love to chat and catch up with them. Plus, they gave us these amazing cups with her logo on them which we now use every day!

4:00 – Definitely time to grab a coffee in the buyer’s lounge area. We are starting to fade!

4:30 – Quick stop at Dessy. Theirs is always an easy one, we know we’re getting everything! We figured out what colors we wanted and were on our way!

5:00 – Our last meeting of the day is with 57 Grand. We love these ladies, definitely be on the lookout for them. They get the best magazine exposure ever and landed another Martha Stewart editorial just recently! They have a super cool bridal style with a removeable tulle skirt, so cool!

6:00 – Headed back to the Omni!

6:30 – Hour and a half conference call with Christine, we have SO much to discuss!

8:00 – Stacey and Lindsay get brave and venture out for dinner! Watch out NYC here we come! We went to this adorable Italian restaurant with THE fastest service ever. The entrees were there literally 2 minutes after we ordered, crazy! Plus, our waiter had a crush on us and gave us a glass of wine on the house. Not gonna lie, we needed it!

9:00 – Back to the Omni, we laugh and watch The Proposal and fall asleep by 11:00 (such rebels after last night).

Monday October 17th – Day 3

6:30 AM – Wake up time! We were ready super early yesterday so we slept a little later.

7:45 – Out the door, we try yet again to find the “close” Starbucks but again end up at the farther one we went to yesterday. Whatever, we’d travel miles and miles for the bucks.

9:00 – Meeting another new designer, Amy Kuschel. She is THE perfect fit for Flair! Her bridal gowns are definitely going to be a step up for us and we KNOW our girls are going to love them! Plus, former Flair girl Leah works with them at her new bridal boutique so we got to catch up with her there. We miss her! Ladies, you are going to DIE over these dresses, we are counting down the days until we can start showing them to you!!

10:00 – Travel to the Intercontinental Hotel where Siri is showing. She got the presidential suite there, go Siri!!

11:00 – Meeting with Siri. She has an absolutely adorable rouched sweetheart style that we know will KILL at Flair.

12:00 PM – Last stop of the trip, Badgley Mischka in Times Square! No new styles but it was still so nice to see their showroom, it’s gorgeous!

12:30 – Quick change into scrubby, train clothes in the Omni bathroom. We ask the concierge yet again where the closer Starbucks is…and still don’t find it. We are convinced it doesn’t exist.

1:00 – Quick lunch in Midtown. We get to eat outside because it is so gorgeous out!

2:00 – Amtrak home! A man and woman behind us refuse to stop talking even though the train is supposed to be quiet. We give a few mean glances, to no avail. On the brighter side, Stacey meets a new man (in the form of an adorable 7 month old baby, who was a major flirt).

Tuesday October 18th – Back to Flair!!! We only wish we had all of those new styles with us, but we should have a lot of them soon after the new year! Stay tuned brides and maids!

We had the best time at Bridal Market this year and we are so excited to share all the new gems!

Here’s to a happy, successful, beautifully dressed and healthy 2012!

XOXO
