Wedding Menswear

Flair is a bridal gown shop, so, (news flash!) we tend to focus on the ladies. That’s not to say we’re not totally invested and interested in what you wear, though, fellas! After all, if you’re a mess, everyone will focus on that and not how stunning the bride looks in her gown 😉 Seriously though, the options for grooms and their groomsmen have come a long way in recent years, so it’s easier than ever for the guys to look as good as the gals!

Dessy Collection is a triple threat in the menswear world; they have plenty of options, at great prices, available in a snap! Here’s just some of their selection:

If your wedding is nautical, preppy, and/or on the more causal side:

seersucker-suit-full

Dessy’s “Hardwick” seersucker suit will run you under $400 (pants and jacket) for all of that New England, clambake chic goodness 🙂

If your wedding is black tie (aka chic and formal!):

You can't go wrong with a classic tux! We particularly like Dessy's "Andrew" cut; timeless and oh so handsome!

If your wedding is somewhere in between the two:

Dessy's "Classic Summer Suit" is perfect for almost any wedding, and totally something your guy can wear beyond the wedding!

Dessy’s “Classic Summer Suit” is perfect for almost any wedding, and totally something your guy can wear beyond the big day!

None of these options quite right? Then simply find the suit of your/his dreams and head back to Dessy to shop their accessories! They have ties, pocket squares, and more that will match literally any wedding color scheme!

Bridesmaids’ Dress Trends 2017

From the runways to the wedding aisle!

When New York Fashion Week ended, I went into a slight depression. It was so fun seeing all of those fab, fresh looks (via celebs in my Instagram feed) and learning what hot trends we can expect for this Spring/Summer. Now that it’s over, what am I going to see in my feed now?? Back to shots of my friends’ babies and meals? Boring! OK, just kidding, we love a good baby and/or food photo, but seriously, we need our fashion fix too! Good thing for us, London Fashion Week kept the chic snaps coming! London is such a trendy, fashionable city, and there were inspiring looks all over the place! Here are a few trends we caught that you can totally incorporate into your bridesmaids’ styles:
Red and Yellow – See ya later, muted colors, bold is back in a big way! In particular, reds and yellows have been all over the runways, so why not all over your wedding too? Yellow specifically, though, can be a tricky color on some skin tones, so just be sure to have all of your girls try it on before you commit. Red, on the other hand, has a tendency to read Valentine’s Day and/or Christmas, so be sure to pair it with non-holiday shades to give it a more weddingy (yes, we made up that word) look. Tiffany blue, aubergine, and dove gray are a few favorites that come to mind.

Anna Elyse has one of the largest color palettes we've ever seen; plenty of reds and yellows for you!

Cut outs – OK, we know that cut outs have been around for awhile, but we’re not talking about the typical ones that you’ve seen at the waist. We’re seeing cut outs in whole new places, including the backs of dresses. If you want to show a little skin but still be wedding appropriate, this trend is for you!

Red AND a cool cut out?! This Dessy dress is soooo on trend!

Mixing Prints – Prints have become popular in the bridesmaids’ world over the past year or so, but this year if you really want to step it up, then mix them up! Have your girls wear a few different coordinating prints for a modern, unique look!

We can't think of much chicer than mixing different floral prints. Way to go Jenny Yoo!

Fall and Winter Bridesmaids’ Dresses

Stay chic in the cold!

Newsflash: This summer has been really hot. I know, I know; New Englanders are, like, never happy with the weather. Too much snow in the winter, too hot in the summer; it’s really only those couple of temperate weeks in the Spring/Fall when we have no complaints. Even then, get ready for the whining to commence if we get too much rain. Regardless, the heat and humidity we’ve had recently has me dreaming of Fall and Winter, and longing for sweater weather. Good thing now’s the perfect time for us to start talking about Fall/Winter bridesmaids’ dresses! Late Fall/Winter brides need to be ordering in the coming weeks or so, and here are some things they should consider:
1) Be sensitive to skin tones – During the chilly months, most of our skin tones tend to revert back to a more, well, pasty shade. So, think jewel tones or other darker colors for your dresses, as pastels and soft shades will likely wash out your ladies. If you’re totally set on a paler color, then consider offering to pay for a spray tan for your girls. It’s a nice gesture that will help them get on your pretty, pale page!

In this blog, we’ll be showing off some of Dessy’s just released, brand new styles that would be perfect for a Fall/Winter wedding! Up first, you can’t go wrong with black, back, and bling, as seen on style 2972!

2) Don’t forget the fabric – Most brides tend to focus on the dress cut/style, but in the colder months the material the dress is made from is just as important! Try to avoid summery chiffon and charmeuse, and instead opt for a heavier weighted silk, satin, or even lace. Trust us; your girls will thank you for it!

Lace is perfect for Fall/Winter! Isn't style 2966 a beauty?!

3) Think accessories – In the Fall/Winter, we have to dress a bit more practically. Don’t be afraid to do so on your wedding day, too! A well placed wellie boot, scarf, or jacket can actually help create super cool photos and will also go a long way to keeping your best girls comfortable.

Flair’s Fashion Week Recap!

Fashion Week Spring 2015 Trend Report!

Well, another Fashion Week has come to a close. This year, though, was a little different. There was all of the usual glitz, glamour and fun, but with a quiet note of sadness mixed in as the fashion world mourned the great Joan Rivers. Two things Joan loved most, though, were fashion and laughter, so I think she’d be fine with us getting back to those! So, we’re here to recap some of the major trends seen on this year’s runway! As you probably know, even though Fashion Week is in the fall, everything on the runway was made for Spring 2015. So we’re all getting a little preview of what’s to come; perfect for Spring/Summer 2015 brides! While most runway looks are not intended for weddings necessarily, there are subtle ways you can pop their trends into your big day!

1) 3D details: This year’s looks were literally popping off the runway! Designers were using multi-layered sequins, tons of paillettes, beading, crystals and even 3D florals to bring their looks to life. You can achieve this look with our petal bridal gown by Theia, which is covered in stunning fabric petals, giving you that on trend, 3D look!

This Vera Wang stunner embodies the 3D perfectly! As for the Theia gown, she does too, and you can get her at Flair!!

2) Metallics: Shades of Gold, Silver and Bronze were all over the runways this year! Metallics are great for a wedding; in general they are neutrals so you can pair them with whatever other colors you like! No need to stress over if the napkins, bridesmaids’ dresses, flowers and programs will coordinate! Get the look with Jenny Yoo’s Metallic Lace, seen here on her Hudson dress!

This Max Mara is the perfect shade of silver, just like in the matallic threading on our Hudson dress!

3) Pleats: OK, we have to pat ourselves on the back here. Pleats have been big in the wedding world for years, and the high fashion world is finally catching up! Pleats are super flattering and add the perfect, subtle detail to any dress! Steal this look for less with Dessy’s style 2880; pleats and rouching and flattering galore!

We love these Calvin Klein pleats almost as much as Dessy's ;)

4) Blush: OK, another pat on the back for us! Blush has been huge in the wedding world for the past couple of years, and it looks like it’s here to stay for atleast one more! Blush is soft, romantic and generally pretty flattering, making it the perfect wedding color! More good news: you can get this look with pretty much every designer at Flair! Check it out here on Siri’s Dahlia dress; stunning!

We are swooning over the color of this Tory Burch look, and over the cut of this Siri dress; so chic!

Summer Event Shopping – Stress Free!

Summer event shopping – stress free!

Well, it’s that time of year again. The flowers are blooming, the birds are chirping and our beloved white pants are coming out of storage (maybe not for another week if you abide by that old Memorial Day rule). Spring is a truly amazing time of year, but it can also be a little stressful. “Am I bathing suit ready?” “I need a spray tan STAT!” Oh, and don’t even get us started on pollen. On top of all of that, most of us have about 5,000 events coming up this summer and NOTHING to wear to any of them. Bridal/baby showers, bachelorette parties and weddings, oh my!

People ask us all the time if they can wear a Flair dress to these events and the answer is YES…BUT there’s usually not enough time to get them in. We need around 4 months lead time, and most of us are not on the ball that quickly. Thank goodness for The Dessy Collection! They have an amazing selection of Quick Delivery dresses that would be perfect for all of your summer events! They arrive in a matter of weeks, not months, and even better, they are unique! We love all of the major ready to wear stores but you always run the risk of seeing someone else at your event in the same dress. Nightmare! So, check out some of our favorite quick delivery dresses below and give Flair or Frills a buzz if you see anything you like 🙂

Golden Globe Gorgeous!

Golden Globe Gorgeous!

Here at Flair, we love, love, love award show season! The red carpet always gives us such amazing inspiration for bridal and bridesmaids’ styling, as well as our own personal styling! All of the Flair girls got together last night (via a massive group text) at 6:00 PM sharp for the start of the season; The Golden Globes! As our Facebook followers already know, each Flair gal had a different choice for best dressed (click here to follow us and see our picks!) and we LOVE that it turned out that way! We each have a unique sense of style, and as a group, we bring a diverse style perspective to our brides and bridesmaids!

There is one thing that we all could agree on though; there were some fabulous trends on the red carpet that will translate perfectly to the 2014 wedding season (and beyond)!

1) High slits – Thinking of a long dress for your bridesmaids, but worried about them being too warm? A slit is the perfect solution; they can look hot while staying cool!

2) Sleeves – No longer does a sleeve scream matronly; tons of stars (Olivia Wilde! Camila Alves! Emma Watson! Julianna Margulies!) rocked a sleeve and looked young and fresh at the same time!

3) Color blocking – In the past, if you wanted to incorporate a second color into your bridesmaids’ dresses it meant one thing; a sash! While that is still true, there are also new, modern ways to incorporate color!

Yes this is my wedding but it's not a shameless plug, I swear! After all, we did color block our Lynn Lugo dresses :)

4) Slicked back hair – While we’re not sure if we’ll see many slicked back gals in this year’s wedding photos, we have to admit, it’s a cool, new way to keep the hair out of your face and show off your gorgeous makeup!

5) Bare necks – While we had 6 totally unique best dressed choices, they did have one thing in common; bare necks! Many stars decided to forgo the somewhat over-done statement necklace for the next big thing; a statement earring! We predict many bare necks with statement earrings in wedding photos this year!

While we try to remain neutral about fashion choices (to each her own!) our Golden Globes recap just wouldn’t be complete without atleast a mention of some of our least favorite dresses. Just for fun:

1) We wish our TV had some “blurred lines” over this gown.

2) This gown needs to head back to “Nashville.”

3) This gown is a “big bang” mess.

4) Even a “Charlie’s Angel” couldn’t save this dress.

That’s it! Now we want to know what you liked (and didn’t like)! Can’t wait to hear your picks!!

Happy award show season! XO

Bridal Spotlight: Abby and Jonny’s Elegant Affair at the InterContinental!

What was your inspiration for your wedding?

Oddly enough i was inspired by photos of a couple outdoor weddings that were very different styles from the way mine ended up, but i loved the rustic feel and tried to incorporate that into a formal black-tie setting.

What was your favorite part of wedding planning?

I loved meeting with all my vendors and envisioning how the room would look once it all came together.

How did you tie that inspiration in to what you choose for your bridesmaid dresses/bridal gown?

The color scheme was very neutral so it was easy to pick based on that. one of the photos that inspired me actually had similar colored bridesmaid dresses and i loved the way they looked. once i showed Stacey the picture she helped me find the perfect options.

What did you choose?

I gave the girls their choice of the Jenny Yoo Kate & Anya dreses AND Dessy styles LR164, LR166 & LR168.

What color?
Jenny Yoo – Barley, Dessy – Bailey  – they happened to be the exact same material and color and matched perfectly to the point that you would never know that half the girls were wearing different brands!

What were you looking for in your bridesmaid dresses?

I wanted there to be enough options that everyone would find a dress they liked. I also wanted the dresses to look elegant and fun at the same time.

How was Stacey/Lindsay/Jaime most helpful?

Stacey was helpful in every way 🙂 I had no questions left unanswered, and each of my bridesmaids.
What did you choose for your bridal gown?
I wore my sisters gown which she wore 6 years earlier; Stacey knew that I had planned on making some slight alterations and even let me come in and try on some bridal gowns in the store just to help me decide what to do with my sister’s dress and get some inspiration.

Tips for brides when selecting their BM dresses?  Bridal Gowns?

Try to think about what your bridesmaids will be excited to wear and feel beautiful in – the happier everyone else is the better you’ll feel on that day too!

How was your experience at Flair?

Perfect, wouldn’t have had it any other way!

Where did you get married??

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

Casa de Campo in La Romana, Dominican Republic– it was amazing!!

Jill & Nate’s Nautical New England Wedding!

This wedding is close to my heart, mainly because I am lucky enough to say I know the bride and groom!  They are quite the two love birds….you know the type, making googly eyes at each other across the room, always rooting for each other whether it be at a marathon or a triathlon, they are each others biggest fans and seeing the sparks and love between the two of them is quite a joy for all those who know them.  I haven’t met two people who were more meant for each other!  And I really think it shows in their wedding pictures.  What a beautiful and romantic wedding for two people who truly deserve it! 😉
Enjoy the fabulous wedding of Mr & Mrs Nate & Jill Brown!
What was your inspiration for your wedding?
Our venue was truly our inspiration for our wedding. I had been to a baby naming for a newborn I babysat in highschool at the Atlantica.  I knew as I entered the function room that that is where I wanted to get married someday. The room has panoramic views of the harbor so we decided to go with a nautical theme, playing off the venue. We wanted our wedding to capture our love for the ocean and give guests that classic summertime party!

How did you tie that inspiration in to what you choose for your bridesmaid dresses/bridal gown?
My husband, Nate, chose the color for our wedding!  He thought it was obvious that it would be “blue” since the reception was on the water.  I loved that he wanted to add his advice into these often bride-only decisions, so we went with blue (which gave me a lot to work with since there are so many shades of blue) and we added in some splash of teal and hot pink for fun.

What did you choose?
Dessy Collection
What color?
Sailor blue
What were you looking for in your bridesmaid dresses?
Since our wedding was going to be in July I wanted a dress for the girls that was comfortable for that time of year. I wanted the dresses to be affordable since we all have a closet full of old bridesmaid dresses we’ve never worn again! I wanted all the girls to pick their own style dress, keeping it within the same color, in hopes they will wear it again.  They all ended up chosing various styles all in chiffon which I think worked well for the 80 degree day we had and they all looked great!  Flair offered a lot of choices as far as colors, style of dress and prices.
How was Stacey/Lindsay/Brooke most helpful?
Stacey was amazing!  She was more than helpful, offering her honesty, experiences and expertise.  She is enthusiastic, energetic and is genuinely excited for her clients upcoming weddings, which is exactly what a bride is in need of!
What did you choose for your bridal gown?
I went to the Boston’s “Running of the brides” in February.  I went after the hustle and bustle of enery driven brides was over at 6pm. I met my sister and mother there, tried on about 10 gowns and found my dress.  The warnings before going would be there are no changing rooms, so I just wore a bathing suit while trying on the gowns.  There were still hundreds of dresses left that late at night and we were able to skip the craziness that morning!
Tips for brides when selecting their BM dresses?  Bridal Gowns?
I would recommend not bringing your entire bridal party to try on bridesmaid dresses if youre chosing one for all of them. Don’t get me wrong, I know you love everyone in your bridal party, which is why you chose them, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to love everyone’s opinions. That being said I realized everyone has different taste, let them chose their own! Stick with a color or style and let them have some say in where they spend their money!
How was your experience at Flair?
Flair is the cutest little bridal boutique. Its small size makes it intimate for you and your bridesmaids, family, and friends. With having the whole store to yourself during your appointment the store really allows you to play around and have fun…and isn’t that what this is all about?!
Where did you get married??
We got married at St. Theresas Chapel in Humarock, MA, my summer church growing up.  Our reception was at Atlantica Restaurant in Cohasset.
What was your favorite moment at the wedding?
We took pictures before the wedding and we met at Scituate Lighthouse.  Our photographer set Nate up on one side of the lighthouse and I had to walk around til I found him.  Seeing each other on our wedding day for the first time was a feeling I will never forget.  I’ve know him for almost a decade, but for some reason I had butterflies in my stomach looking for him around the lighthouse.  AT the wedding my favorite moment was sitting at our sweetheart table together. Listening to the speeches and LAUGHING.  Looking around and seeing everyone celebrating for you is an overwhelming feeling that I’ll never forget sharing with my new husband.  We couldn’t stop smiling.
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
We went to Tahiti and Bora Bora. IT WAS A DREAM
