Fashion’s Night Out: A Retrospecive

Hello happy brides and maids! Did you hit up Fashion’s Night Out? It’s the first time this event has taken place in Boston for 15 years and we were pumped to check it out! What a cool concept; fabulous stores stay open late, pump you full of free apps and beverages and give you discount on their wares. Hello, nothing wrong with that! Plus, we secretly loved walking in the middle of a blocked off Newbury Street.

Some Flair favs:

1)      DVF (duh, always a fav) had some AMAZING deals! Stacey found an adorable black lace mini for $325. Perfect for a rehearsal dinner, shower, etc.

2)      Ted Baker had some adorable dresses! They are super fun and flirty, perfect for a bachelorette! One of our favorites was a black cocktail dress with a tiered skirt. The fabric was a layer of tulle with chiffon sewn over top, so unique!

3)      Bobbles and Lace is a new addition to Newbury Street, with a recent move from the North End.  We are sure they’ll be a HUGE success with the venue change! This is definitely the place to hit up for bridesmaids’ jewelry. We’re already planning a trip back there to take a more in depth peek, be on the lookout for more info on them in a future blog…

In short, we hope it doesn’t take another 15 years to have a Boston’s Fashion Night Out! We’re sure it was a huge success and are already looking forward to next year!

Fashionably Yours

To stalk or not to stalk…

(This picture in no way reflects how Lindsay actually looks/feels)

My wedding is less than a month away and I estimated to my fiancé last night that I am currently 70% crazy. Here’s hoping I make it to July 23rd without reaching a full 100% crazy level. The end of the planning process is the worst part by far. You’re getting so excited for the day to come but you have 1,000,000 little things standing in your way. Gone are the days of fun cake tastings and trying on pretty dresses. Now I’m left with planning the seating chart (ugh), paying final deposits and waiting not so patiently for RSVPs to come back.

Learn from me, Flair friends, and send your invites out as soon as humanly acceptable. Give your guests plenty of time to send their responses, because you know you’re going to have a bunch that push past your deadline. At our deadline we had no less than 20 unanswered RSVPs (a lot considering we only sent a little over 100 invites total). What is wrong with you people?? Don’t you know I’m going crazy enough without having to stalk you for a response? Don’t you know my wedding is going to be ultra fab? Why isn’t your immediate response YES YES and YES?? OK, tirade over.

When the time came to start stalking our respective guests my fiancé was hesitant. “Babe, do we have to?” “Babe, I know ____ is coming without asking.” Sigh, silly boys. It is 100% acceptable to reach out to your guests and ask them for a response. It shows an effort on your part. That way, if they miss the final deadline (i.e. the day you have to send final numbers to your venue) you can atleast say that you reached out and tried. It’s going to be hard to say no to someone who asks to come after that deadline but your hands will be tied and free of guilt. There can be no “Well I misread the date to respond” or any other excuse. We called you, you were slow, so now you have to miss out on the party of the century. OK, I might say it a bit nicer than that, it all depends on my crazy level at the time.

Stay sane summer 2011 brides, our day is almost here!!

XO

Lindsay

Things We Love: Easy DIY projects (no, really!)

We’ve all seen them…those annoyingly perfect, almost completely DIY weddings. I’m sure you, like me, think “how do they have the time and energy to do all of that?!?” My wedding is now just under 6 weeks away (!!) and I can barely handle the tasks I have left to complete let alone think about doing them completely myself, from scratch. Not only that, but does anyone else feel a little subpar when trying anything DIY? Martha Stewart and co. make them look sooo easy and then I attempt them and it takes me an hour to make one favor box, and it’s not a pretty favor box by the end of that hour. As a complete crafts failure, I am here to spill the deets on some seriously easy DIY projects that should save you some time, money and sanity (and who couldn’t use a little more of that!?).

1)      Place cards: When I saw these place cards I almost died. They must be too good to be true! Here’s the scoop: I paid $10 for a gorgeous template that I can type right on and print at home. So, I can choose a fab font that looks pretty without paying a calligrapher and I can print them at home for the price of some cardstock. Genius!! She has different patterns and colors to suit your needs but I chose the below patterns, perfect for my mostly black and white affair.

2)      Shower game: This suggestion is for you, maids. We all know that opening gifts is a necessary part of any bridal shower but let’s face it, it can be uber boring for the guests. Bridal Bingo is the perfect way to keep them interested! You can print the bingo cards at home (see below for an example) and the guests fill in the gifts they think the bride will receive in the blank spots. When she opens said gift, the guest can mark their spot and once someone gets a Bingo a fab prize awaits! The mention of a prize will certainly keep people paying attention to the lovely bride no matter how many gifts she has to open!

OK, I know that my projects all involve the printer but like I said, I am not crafts proficient and this is about all I can handle! Hopefully that’s a good start for you, we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more easy projects to make this whole wedding planning process thing a little less stressful!

XOXO
Lindsay

“The Skinny”: Flair San Francisco

Dipping our hand into the bridal jar, our SF showroom had our very FIRST trunk show featuring Kirstie Kelly for Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings. The 3-day event was a HUGE HIT!-luring brides over both SF bridges right into our shop! This of course, couldn’t have been done without the lovely, Ilana Izsak.  Knowing the collection as if they were her own, Ilana sprinkles the fairy dust in magic.  With her “know how’s” and “can do’s” she helped brides find and “make” their perfect wedding gown. No worries! Christine and I took notes! Watch out, brides. Kirstie Kelly’s 2009 bridal collection is sizzling with gorgeous gowns. (I even tried some on and it made me wish I was getting married!!)

Stop in and try on our bridal silhouettes! Flair San Francisco is currently having a special promotion for all bridal orders placed by the end of December 2008. Contact us for more information.
