Wedding Stationery and Inspiration Boards

Plan your wedding in style, and stress free!

With the holidays now over and a new year begun, have your social media feeds been taken over by bling and bent knees? The holiday season brings about more proposals than any other time of year, so we have a feeling you’ve seen your fair share. With all of those new brides and grooms-to-be out there, we figured now was the perfect time to chat about one of our favorite resources for engaged couples – the inspiration board! One of the toughest things about wedding planning is making decisions on various items and not really knowing until the big day if they actually go together. Putting them side by side on an inspiration board is an easy, and free, way to get a sense of how your choices will meld on your wedding day. Plus, they are a great visual to provide your vendors with; giving them a good sense of your preferences. One of our designers, The Dessy Collection, has a super user-friendly inspiration board builder for anyone who wants to get started. That’s where we built ours, with the phenomenal Paperless Post as our muse.

Paperless Post is a must for engaged couples. They have tons of style options at prices to accommodate any and every budget. Plus, their site is so well organized and easy to navigate; a major plus for couples overwhelmed by the seemingly endless number of choices out there. Check out a couple of our favorite stationery designs in the inspiration boards below:

save the date
The “Love Struck” save the date card (top left corner) caught our eye for several reasons. It has visual appeal, but isn’t too busy, and we’re OBSESSED with arrows as a wedding theme. Maybe it’s the cupid connection, but for some reason the arrow, when done right, strikes us as a totally modern and chic symbol of romance. We also love the colors. The periwinkle shade is totally on trend (think the new Pantone color of the year “Serenity”), and we’re always a sucker for gold. We popped in a little bit of that gorgeous, rich shade of deep raspberry as another accent, to make this palette lean more “romantic wedding” than baby shower. Speaking of which, though, this card set would also totally work for a shower (baby or wedding)!

wedding invite
The “Marbelized” wedding invitation drew us in immediately. It totally hits on what we think will be a big trend in the coming years – using natural elements for your wedding décor. Whether it’s marble, agate, or reclaimed wood, these “green” elements are perfect for a contemporary barn wedding, or even a city fete looking to add a pop of nature to their big day. And those classic, stunning shades of blush, black, grey, gold, and lilac? Tres chic!

For all of the newly engaged couples out there, head on over to Dessy’s website to create your own inspiration boards, and be sure to hit up Paperless Post early in your planning process. After all, the save the date and invitation are the first hint of your wedding style your guests will see, so be sure to mail them off in style!

Mis-Matched Bridesmaids Dresses!

While we consider ourselves to be pretty fearless most of the time, lately alot of our brides have been saying something to us that truly makes us shudder: “I really like the look of Molly Sims’ bridal party.” <Cue classic horror movie music> Gasp!

If you haven’t seen her bridal party, do a quick Google search. Find it? OK good. It really is gorgeous, and we love to see someone doing something a little different BUT we’ve had a hard time recreating that look for our brides…until now!

Jenny Yoo came out with her first “social collection” this season, which includes pretty prints, luxurious laces and preppy polka dots. They pair perfectly with our already fabulous collection of solid dresses, to help you achieve that effortless mix and match look that so many brides are going for these days. Check out these fab photos from her recent shoot to get a sneak peek and if you like what you see (and we think you will) give us a call to come see it in person!

Shaping up for Summer

As Summer approaches, I’ve decided to get back on the mani pedi bandwagon. I hate to admit it, but since I got married last summer I’ve kinda let myself go a little. In the months leading up to the wedding I was getting a mani pedi every two weeks, had a stock pile of self-tanner and was in the best shape of my life (yoga twice a day, no big deal). After the wedding though, it was nice to let those things go for awhile. Winter came and the Uggs came back out, my skin went back to pasty white, my nails became a nightmare and now I’m lucky if I do Yoga 4 times a week. Pretty sure this is not what my husband signed up for. JK, he loves me unconditionally…but I’m pretty sure he would burn my Uggs if he thought he could get away with it.

What brought me back to my old primping ways? On Marathon Monday I got a sunburn (oh hey summer, you kinda snuck up on me there) that is now turning into a pretty killer tan. The sight of some color on my usually pale skin brought back fond memories of “pre-wedding Lindsay”. So, I decided to take that one step further, and I picked up the phone and called Mini Luxe on Newbury Street. I have 4 words for you: gel manicures for life! They are so worth the extra money! No chippage for 2 weeks? I’m sold! Plus, it’s SO cute in there! I was chatting with my lovely manicurist and of course Flair came up. She told me that they work with bridal parties all the time. You and your lovely ladies can head there all together and get mani pedis in an uber relaxing environment, with tons of polish colors to match whatever color palette you’re working with. Speaking of, are you making your bridesmaids’ nails match each other/ match the color scheme of the wedding? I did, and occasionally I feel badly and think that maybe that was a little bridezilla-ish…but then I remember how cute they looked with their matching hot pink nails and I get over it!

Get inspired by “Pinterest”

There are many reasons why I am jealous of 2012 brides. As many of you fellow 2011 brides can probably attest, the year after you get married is super fun and all buuuuuuut also filled with some wedding withdrawals. Planning the wedding takes up so much of your time and energy and then afterwards you’re left trying to figure out what to do with all of that extra time. Well, one of the things that I’ve been doing to fill my time is going on Pinterest….constantly. As my husband eloquently put it “you’re on that website a lot.” Yes honey, I am. I am designing our future home, dressing our future kids and planning interesting meals to cook for you, so I’ve kinda got my hands full here.

Sorry, I got a little off topic there. Circling back around, Pinterest is another reason why I am jealous of 2012 brides. It is literally the best way to organize all of your fab wedding ideas. See a flower bouquet online that you like? Pin it! Then, bring any device with internet access to your meeting with your florist and BOOM they can see it quickly and easily. It is crazy that only one short year ago I was bringing torn out magazine photos to my meetings. Ugh, that’s so 2011.

So, check out Flair on Pinterest to steal some of our amazing ideas and get yourself started. Like me, I’m sure you’ll be neglecting your fiancé/husband in no time (sorry hubby, but really I’m doing it for our future)!

Happy Pinning!

XOXO

Spotlight on Marcella & Jason’s New York City “Urban” Wedding!

I have been anxiously awaiting writing about this fabulous wedding for months.  This wedding holds a special place in my heart because Marcella really trusted us to help her make her bridesmaids stand out from other bridal parties.  As soon as we spoke to her on the phone we knew this was going to be a wedding we would always remember.  Marcella was a fabulous bride to work with mainly because you could feel the love in the room every time she came in with her bridesmaids and family. Marcella was very excited to help her bridesmaids pick out a dress that fit their personality and made them feel beautiful.  We worked very hard to have the color pallet look city-ish and fun!

What was your inspiration for your wedding?

I grew up in downtown Manhattan and my family still lives there.  I have lived in Boston for 7 years, but I still think of New York City as my original home.  My husband spent a couple crucial years in New York, and he also cares about it.  When we thought about the most significant party we might ever throw, we knew we wanted it to be there.  We chose the Bowery Hotel, which is just a couple blocks from my childhood home, because it feels like Greenwich Village (even though it’s pretty new!) and because I knew I could walk there from my apartment on my wedding day.  Also, just about the best thing in the world is an outdoor terrace on a hot New York City night.

How did you tie that inspiration in to what you choose for your bridesmaid dresses/bridal gown?

I chose shades of gray to harmonize with the city.  I wanted the girls to look as fabulous and individual as they are, so I chose three different shades of gray and each girl chose her own Lynn Lugo style.  The maids of honor and the junior bridesmaid wore lilac so that they would be distinguished, and also because who doesn’t love lilac with gray!  Stacey worked with us on eight different dresses, which was pretty awesome!

What did you choose?
I basically chose colors & fabrics, and the girls did the rest.  The best part was that I think each girl felt glamorous in what she was wearing (or so I hope!).  I wanted to emphasize each person rather than the fact that they were all in my bridal party.  So, we worked on a harmony principle rather than a matching principle and when I looked around on my wedding day, I remember thinking, “Wow, all these beautiful fairies!”
What color?
Charcoal, Blizzard, Smoke, and Thistle – Whoa!  I actually remember!

What were you looking for in your bridesmaid dresses?
At first, honestly, I was looking for a waist.  One of the terrible things about so many bridesmaid dresses is that they are waistless and almost designed to make girls look homely, so that the bride stands out.  I specifically wanted my bridesmaids to look as good as they could possibly look.  The first condition for looking good for most women is a defined waist.  The Lynn Lugo dresses were very flattering and in beautiful colors and fabrics, so they were a good fit all around.
How was Stacey/Lindsay/Brooke most helpful?
Flair is wonderful place to be a bride.  Stacey, Lindsay, and Brooke make the place feel warm and exciting.  They are sensitive, flexible, available, and fun!  I went at least four times with different sets of girls, and every time felt like an occasion.  The first time, when I went with my sister and sister-in-law, Stacey actually put on a Lynn Lugo trunk show, so that we could actually get a stronger feel for the dresses.

What did you choose for your bridal gown?
My bridal gown was Carolina Herrera from a couple years ago.  It was the very first dress I tried on the very first time I even looked for a dress.  It was a very good value.  I got it at an amazing sample sale and then I worked with a wonderful seamstress to make it fit me.  Working on the dress was actually a very fun, much less expensive way to fuss over the dress than shopping for it, which took me about an hour.
Tips for brides when selecting their BM dresses?  Bridal Gowns?
Obviously, the overall feeling of your wedding and the degree of formality come first.  Then, I would say toss all other considerations out, and think about what dresses are going to look good on your ladies.  I think the trend towards color theming of weddings is not that exciting.  A great party is not about a color theme.  It’s about energy.  And, you will have a more energetic party if your gals feel good.  Likewise, I am not sure why every girl needs to wear the same dress.  This is a sure-fire way to make any irregularity stand out.  As for the bridal gown, I feel similarly that you should pick a dress that evokes the formality and setting of the occasion, but that also, in the end, you should pick something that just makes you feel like a million bucks.

How was your experience at Flair?
I had a wonderful experience at Flair.  I had had some pretty deathly experiences at places in New York when I finally decided to do the bridesmaid dresses in Boston.  I was so excited to come to Flair and be greeted by warm, experienced, and attentive professionals whose number one concern was my bridesmaids dresses.
Where did you get married??
The Bowery Hotel, New York City

What three adjectives would best describe your wedding?

Urban, inclusive, FUN!

What was your favorite moment at the wedding?

Toughie.  So many.  Definitely high up was the moment all the girls got into their dresses and I just thought, “How beautiful are my friends!!!”

What advice can you give any other Boston/New England Bride?

Tired but true: try to have fun.  In some ways, the party is everyone’s and the planning is yours.  Ideally, you do this thing only once or twice in your life.  Not many things are like that.  Enjoy!

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

Greece and Italy.  And, we made a honeymoon registry, which every non-billionaire should do.

Spotlight on Kat’s Wedding at The Towers in Narragansett, RI

[really_simple_share]

Kat came into Flair and made quite the impression on us. We could tell right away it was going to be a beautiful, fun and bright wedding!  Boy were we right!! Looks like that had a beautiful day at The Towers in Narragansett captured by he talented Kate McElwee.

What was your inspiration for your wedding?
Our inspiration for the wedding was summer beach party fun! We wanted  our guests to be casual and comfortable so they could enjoy the night.

How did you tie that inspiration in to what you choose for your bridesmaid dresses/bridal gown?
Our bridesmaids dresses were so colorful and fun! My favorite colors are turquoise and pink, that’s why I chose the color scheme. The cut for the girls was absolutely perfect – extremely flattering, and they were in alignment with our casual theme. My dress was all alencon lace, a fit to flare cut, and while extremely elegant – -it wasn’t too much dress and was easy to get around in!

What dress did you choose?
We chose the Coren Moore “Courtney”  two-toned dress for the bridesmaids. It was ivory silk shantung on top, tiffany blue silk shantung on the bottom along with the pink sash.
The junior bridesmaids wore the junior lilly dress in the tiffany blue silk shantung with a pink seersucker sash.
The flower girls wore the junior lilly dress in white seersucker.

How was Stacey/Lindsay/Leah most helpful?
Stacey, Lindsay, and Leah were wonderful! As you can see, we had an extremely large wedding party, 8 bridesmaids, two junior bridesmaids, and two flower girls…not even including the boys! Many of the girls are from out of state. Stacey, Lindsay, and Leah were so patient taking orders and making sure sizes were spot on. They were also great with the kids who wanted to try everything on! As far as a bride goes, they were fun to work with, calm, and most importantly – – they girls don’t pressure you. Stacey, Lindsay, and Leah also gave us great individual attention in all of our appointments.

Tips for brides when selecting their BM dresses?  Bridal Gowns?
My only advice for a bride when selecting their bridesmaid dresses is that they should really go with what their heart tells them! I went with my favorite colors – -so I knew I couldn’t go wrong. Plus, the colors matched the season.

How was your experience at Flair?
My experience at Flair was amazing! My mother, sisters, and I took numerous trips to Boston to search for bridesmaid dresses, and nothing was unique or had the extra oomph that we wanted. When we walked into Flair, we were so excited to see different dresses that matched our theme perfectly. They also have a wide range of styles in different colors – – something that fits every body type.

Who designed your bridal gown?
Ana Hernandez out of Boston personally designed and sewed my dress!

Where did you get married?
Our wedding was at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Narragansett, RI. The reception was held at “The Towers” in Narragansett.

What three adjectives would best describe your wedding?
Fun, casual, and family-oriented.

What was your favorite moment at the wedding?
My favorite moment at the wedding was walking out of the church with Alex, as a newly married couple. The weather was sunny and beautiful, the church bells were ringing and we were just so excited to be married!

What advice can you give any other Boston/New England Bride?
My advice to other brides is to relax, take a deep breath, and use the help of your family and friends. Some of the planning can be a bit stressful… of course it’s time consuming, but try to laugh your way through it, and enjoy it!

Where did you go on your honeymoon?
We went to Oahu, Maui, Kaui, and stopped in San Francisco on the way back! It was awesome.

Things we LOVE: Say my name, say my name…

OK, I’ve been reading some of the wedding blogs recently and they say to not go overboard on the personalized details at your wedding. All I can say is 1) oops, too late and 2) why not?? I get that your guests probably don’t need a reminder as to whose wedding they are attending (if they do they probably should have been cut from the list to begin with) but I personally am a sucker for personalization.

Why not send subtle reminders to your guests as to who the queen and king are that day? Besides that, I am really proud of the work I’ve put into all the details of my wedding and I literally want my name all over the place. Call me vain if you like, but it’s my day (oh, and his too) and I’ll personalize if I want to! Below are some of my fav personalized goodies. I guess if you want to be a blog follower you can choose just one, but I say, if your budget allows, go for all of them!

1) At just $17.99 for 100, these cocktail napkins are a no brainer. Plus, it can’t hurt for people to be thinking about you along with their alcohol, especially when they may have their checkbooks on them…

2) This hanger is absolutely adorable. My Flair girls got it for me and I am ob-sessed! It will obviously keep my gown looking good on the day of the wedding, but in the meantime it has a place of honor hanging on the drawer of my bedside table. I know all of my other hangers are jealous…

3) My Bridal Bling is a super cute company started by a newly engaged bride. They have personalized goodies for the bride as well as the bridal party, and honestly who can’t use another item of clothing with crystals?? http://www.facebook.com/pages/My-Bridal-Bling/

4) My fiancé is half Chinese and I could not resist getting these fortune cookies for our favors (of course I checked with him first to make sure they weren’t too cheesy but luckily he gave his seal of approval!). The fortune inside has our names, wedding date and thanks our guests for coming; such a nice touch! Plus, they come in tons of colors to match your scheme and they are delish! Of course I broke into them already and am saving the fortune for my wedding memory book. Too cute! http://fancyfortunecookies.com/
