While I love all of my brides, there is a special place in my heart for today’s bride spotlight. She has been one of my very best friends since we bonded over the amazing stylings of the Limited Too in 5th grade (no one else our age seemed to have quite the same level of appreciation…matching your scrunchie to your leggings and what not). Fast forward 15 years to 2011 and you’ll find us just as close (though we’ve dropped the scrunchies since then) and getting married 2 weeks apart. I LOVED having such a close friend going through the stressful, yet amazing, wedding planning process with me, it was such a gift.
Kelly and Mike, you were truly made for eachother and I am soso happy for you and love you both very much! I am looking forward to sharing many more milestones with you in the future (i.e. Kelly and I may have already begun planning a shared 5th anniversary trip to Sandals…)!
Without further ado, here’s a little taste of Mr. and Mrs. Coyne’s FABULOUS day
What was the inspiration for your wedding?
When my husband Mike and I started talking about our wedding, we wanted to make sure that there were aspects of both of us throughout. Our aim was to incorporate our love of music, my love of hydrangea flowers with fun, creative, and handmade details.
What were you looking for in a bridesmaid dress?
As I thought about the bridesmaid dresses, I knew that I wanted a short and whimsical dress that you would want to wear again and again.
What dress did you choose? What color?
Lynn Lugo’s Blake dress in Phlox (such a beautiful blue- looked amazing on all the girls)
How was Lindsay most helpful?
Lindsay asked a lot of questions before my initial appointment, so that she knew what I wanted and what I did not want. She pulled SO many dresses before I arrived for my appointment that it was clear that she understood my vision better than I did! Lindsay was amazing in that she gave my group her undivided attention and was patient with me as I looked for just the right color. When it was time to order the dresses, she worked with all of my bridesmaids who lived in many different states and answered all of their questions through email.
Any tips for brides when selecting their BM dresses? Bridal Gowns?
In terms of helpful tips, when picking a bridesmaid dress, bring a couple of girls with you to the appointment, and narrow the dress selection to one or two dresses then send the selections to all of your girls- that way you are not overwhelmed by too many opinions. In terms of wedding dresses, I wish someone had told me to be open to all shapes and sizes of dresses before I started looking for my dress. I found that the consultants knew WAY more than I did about what would look right on my body and my bridesmaids body. I would have saved a lot of time and frustration if I let the consultants choose dresses for me from the beginning.
How was your experience at Flair?
Wonderful! Lindsay and Stacey are professional, friendly, and supportive. I wish I could get married again (still to Mike!) so that I could do the process with Flair again and again. I highly recommend working with Flair- they know their inventory and have incredible style!
Where did you get married?
Mike and I met at Providence College in Rhode Island. We were married at St. Dominic Chapel on the Providence College campus-best day of our lives 🙂
What three adjectives would best describe your wedding?
Loving, fun, lighthearted
What was your favorite moment at the wedding?
Too many moments- hard to pick just one! Although, I loved watching all of my closest family and friends dress up in wigs and mustaches and pick out props to enter the photobooth at the reception. I also loved dancing and singing at the top of my lungs to Mike’s college cover band during the last hour of the reception. My bridesmaids and I all threw on the cover bands tshirts on over our dresses and danced the night away!
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
Antigua- Sandal resort for 7 nights, 8 days- insane! Loved every second and would seriously consider moving there- beautiful!
What advice can you give any other Boston/New England Bride?
Have fun, shop around, start as early as you can with planning the ceremony location, reception location, dj, and photographer. Then relax a little and enjoy shopping around for invitations, flowers, and the extras. Mike and I agree- it was the little details that truly made our wedding- so don’t forget the little meaningful details. Also- only pick the girls that know you the best (how to calm you down, how to make you laugh) to be in your bridal party- my girlskept me sane and stuck by myself the day before my wedding-when I needed them the most- love them!!

Most people dream of what it would be like to meet their heroes, wondering what they will say and how they will act in that very moment. I was fortunate enough to have ample time to think of what I would say, if I was fortunate enough to have the chance. I spent weeks with the ladies of Flair mulling over what I would write in my essay for the contest to meet design legend Betsey Johnson.
I wrote from the heart, and made sure that my passion for fashion was evident in every word. Luckily, my essay was picked; otherwise I definitely would not be blogging about it, how depressing. Betsey Johnson came to Boston in support of the fight against breast cancer, as she is a survivor herself. She teamed up with South End Health Center to raise money for patients, and held a fabulous fashion show of her latest collection at Cyclorama, also in the South End of Boston. However, a few hours before the show Betsey made a stop at the Museum of Fine Arts, to speak with a variety of creative people, students and professionals alike, in a small setting. As my reward for winning the essay contest, I was able to attend this meeting during the day and was on the guest list for the show at night.
I did not know what to expect when meeting Betsey Johnson, and to say she was one of the sweetest of people to encounter would be an understatement. She was extraordinarily warm to us in person, and was willing to answer any question we could think of. She walked out onto stage in the MFA auditorium with two giant suitcases of her own personal collection of vintage clothing, rooting all the way back to her earliest designs from the 1960’s. Her most candid moment was definitely when she proceeded to tear open the suitcases and scatter the pieces all over the floor. In this moment I gasped and wanted to jump on the stage and pick them all back up! She on the other hand was not bothered a bit. I sat back in my seat amazed as she described what it was like to spend time with people like Andy Warhol and Twiggy. At the end of the program, she said hello and signed my essay “xoxo Betsey”, this was one of those “it” moments in my life thus far.
The fashion show was quite the spectacle and was wonderfully pink, just like Betsey. Her new collection featured mostly dresses in wild animal prints with pops of bright color, which was exhilarating to watch parade the runway. It all really came together for me when Betsey did her well noted cartwheel at the end of the catwalk when the show came to a close. I could not believe that I was actually there. Me? Little intern Joy? It seemed too great to be true! Now that all of the excitement is over, I can look back and value what an amazing experience it was to meet such an influential designer. Although you will never catch me in a pink tutu with leopard print leggings, I will now forever be an avid fan of Betsey Johnson!
Help in the fight against Breast Cancer
Yours truly,
The one and only Flair intern

As I was making my grocery list this week, I realized how boring that I am. I get the same things every week. My husband and I have quesadillas every Thursday night, for example, and I bring the same lunch to work every day. So I said to myself “Self, it is time to shake things up!” I have some peanut butter left over from my insane non-perishable food shopping spree to prepare for Irene, so I decided to use that and spread it on rice cakes as a new lunch idea. OK, I know I am no Wolfgang Puck but it is a bold move for this boring grocery goer (who tries to eat really healthy during the week)!
All of this grocery business got me thinking about ways to shake up the old wedding cake routine. Granted, it is and probably always will be the most popular wedding dessert, but there have to be other options. With a little google action (and a few ideas from my own dessert loving brain) I found a few fab alternatives!
1) Wedding barista: OK, so offering coffee at your wedding isn’t new, but imagine having a serious barista there making cappuccinos, lattes, hot chocolate and more. How impressive would that be?! Plus, the way I like coffee it’s basically a dessert in itself…
2) Caramel and Candy apples: Since it’s October, I couldn’t resist this option. It’s perfect for fall weddings and honestly who doesn’t love those messy things? Plus, the food pyramid tells us that we need several servings of fruit a day so this is actually a really healthy and responsible choice. OK, that might be a stretch…
3) Cake pops: Don’t want to leave the dance floor to sit down and have a full piece of cake? Have no fear! Cake pops are an adorable alternative consisting of a round bit of cake, covered in chocolate and then stuck on a stick; looks like a lollipop, tastes like cake. They’re portable, clean and delicious! Plus they’re so small you can eat like 12 and not feel guilty.
4) Ice cream truck: The little ice cream truck jingle makes us all feel like kids again, and who doesn’t need that every once and awhile? So, later in the night have an ice cream truck pull up outside your venue and have your guests choose from classic treats that will take them back in time.
Happy sweets hunting!
XOXO
Lindsay
It’s no secret that we New Englanders love autumn. With the crisp air, sweaters and those changing leaves that draw gawkers from miles away, it truly is a magical time of year. Here are a few other reasons we love Fall…
1) Apple picking: Seriously, who doesn’t love a fun day out at an orchard picking apples right off of the tree? Fact: they always taste like 10 times better than the apples you get at the grocery store. Plus, you just feel productive, going out and foraging for your own food and what not. I felt inspired afterwards to continue the productiveness and cook, making applesauce from scratch. Watch out Martha Stewart. Looking for a fab orchard (and who isn’t?)? Try Belkin Lookout Farm in Natick. They have TONS of fresh fruit, as well as a petting zoo. I mean really, there’s something for everyone.
2) New fall TV: We admit it, we’re kind of TV junkies at Flair. So, Fall always brings a sense of excitement as new shows come out and old favorites pick up from the annoying cliffhangers they left us off at. We highly recommend checking out “The New Girl” on Fox. It is simply adorkable, Zooey Deschanel is a comedy queen. Also, “Up All Night” on NBC is good for laughs, even though we’re not on the baby track just yet.
Hurry up and snatch up these soon to be discontinued styles from Jenny Yoo!
3) Fall sales at Flair!!: Did you really think we wouldn’t bring this back to Flair somehow? Seriously though, our designers are feeling super generous in the fall and most are offering really great deals just to order your dresses before the crazy winter bridal season begins. So why not check the bridesmaids’ dresses off of your to-do list nice and early AND save some money at the same time! Check out the 411 on the remaining sales below and call us to set up an appointment ASAP!
Coren Moore: 15% off of all bridesmaids’ orders placed by October 31st PLUS one free sash per dress!
Lynn Lugo: $20 off of all dresses (on top of group discount) ordered by November 30th!
Jenny Yoo: Bump it up Promo add and extra 5% off your bridesmaid orders! Catch those styles before they get discontinued.
Siri: Extra $20 (on top of group discount) off all orders of 2 or more bridesmaids’ dresses by November 30th!
Happy Fall 😉

Your Flair consultants really sacrifice for you. We took an hour out of our day yesterday to walk down Newbury Street in search of fab jewelry and gifts for your best girls. It was grueling but we were happy to do it for you .
Our new obsession is Bobbles and Lace at 251 Newbury Street. They have absolutely amazing pieces at even more amazing prices! The jewelry is for the most part current and trendy, but they have classic styles too. We fell in love with their collection of rose gold jewelry; it’s the perfect combination of classic with an interesting twist. Plus, they have gorgeous bags and clutches if you decide to forgo the jewelry route. There’s something for everyone!
BONUS: They also have a great selection of super cute shoes and clothes so you can reward yourself for finding such great gifts for your girls. Perfection!
If you want a more interactive gift for your ladies, take them to the bangle bar at Alex and Ani (115 Newbury Street). The concept is simple: pick a bangle and then add a charm from their wide selection. They make the perfect memory of your day together and of your appreciation for them. The charm/friendship bracelet has gone modern people and you heard it here first (OK, maybe not first…)!
We’re sure your girls will love whatever you give them but if you want to be 100% sure, take our advice and hit up these Newbury Street hot spots. You’ll thank us!
XOXO

What was the inspiration for your wedding? Cape Cod. My fiancé’s family summer on the Cape. We love being outside, at the beach and enjoying a nice relaxing summer. We wanted everyone to experience why we love the Cape so much.
Give us three words to describe your wedding? Amazing, best time of my life, humorous…..obviously Deb had a hard time sticking to just 3!
What is important to you on your big day, except for marrying your fiancé? The Party of course! And our guests. We want everyone to have a good time. We want a big fun party with delicious food and drink.
You purchased your bridesmaid dresses from Flair. Tell me why you selected your dresses? We were in Flair in October of last year. I knew that I wanted strapless and a dress above the knee that had a Capey feel. I fell in love with Coren Moore’s Nolan dress. The girls could easily wear it again, it is short, has pockets and is adorable. Plus the dress was available in the hydrangea blue color that I love – Riviera Blue.
Was it easy to pick out your bridesmaid dress? I had an amazing time at Flair. Stacey was my consultant, she was energetic, bubbly – we were two peas in a pod. And Lindsay was super helpful. She answered all the questions that I had about sizing for one of my bridesmaids who had a baby.
Share your secrets with brides who are still hunting for the perfect bridesmaid dress? Make sure to decide on what you would like first, but still be open to suggestions. Do your research. All of the designers have great websites. Visit the sites, narrow down your choice to the style and type you love. This is super important, as it will make your appointment time run much more smoothly. Bring no more than 4 of your most trusted advisers to the appointment. They will help you get to a decision quickly.
What did you enjoy most about planning your wedding? Dress shopping of course! Kenneth Pool was my designer for my bridal gown, I tried it on last summer in NY and fell in love, then eventually bought it from the only place in MA that carries him, Christina’s in Andover. I loved looking for and finding my dress and bridesmaid dresses. It was also a HUGE relief when we found our venue, then we could move forward with the rest of the details.
What was your favorite part of your BIG day? My favorite moment(s) were during cocktail hour (and the reception, too)–talking to everyone and looking around at all of our friends and family that were there to celebrate with us.
Words of wisdom for all those brides planning a wedding?
I have a few words of wisdom that I learned along the way: If you’re looking to get married in the “high” season (anytime other than winter, basically), book way in advance (at least 10 months for most in-demand places, i.e. the Cape).
Have a contingency plan–you may not need it, but make sure there’s an alternative (for EVERYTHING) due to inclimate weather (if you’re getting married outside or want to do pictures outside); know all of the details about what will be changed, substituted, etc.
Lastly, let your guests enjoy all that Boston/Cape Cod/New England has to offer…incorporate the local “flair” into your wedding (favors, centerpieces, invitations, maps/things to do, etc.). Your guests that aren’t from the area will love learning more about your favorite spot!
Where did you Honeymoon? Our honeymoon was AWESOME! Greece for about a week (Athens, Santorini, Crete), Turkey for about a week (Istanbul and Antalya–southern “turquoise” coast) and Italy for a week (Amalfi coast, Capri, Rome). We had 3 weeks to travel and wanted to enjoy a mix of relaxation (Santorini!) and sightseeing (Rome, Athens)

Kat came into Flair and made quite the impression on us. We could tell right away it was going to be a beautiful, fun and bright wedding! Boy were we right!! Looks like that had a beautiful day at The Towers in Narragansett captured by he talented Kate McElwee.
What was your inspiration for your wedding?
Our inspiration for the wedding was summer beach party fun! We wanted our guests to be casual and comfortable so they could enjoy the night.
How did you tie that inspiration in to what you choose for your bridesmaid dresses/bridal gown?
Our bridesmaids dresses were so colorful and fun! My favorite colors are turquoise and pink, that’s why I chose the color scheme. The cut for the girls was absolutely perfect – extremely flattering, and they were in alignment with our casual theme. My dress was all alencon lace, a fit to flare cut, and while extremely elegant – -it wasn’t too much dress and was easy to get around in!
What dress did you choose?
We chose the Coren Moore “Courtney” two-toned dress for the bridesmaids. It was ivory silk shantung on top, tiffany blue silk shantung on the bottom along with the pink sash.
The junior bridesmaids wore the junior lilly dress in the tiffany blue silk shantung with a pink seersucker sash.
The flower girls wore the junior lilly dress in white seersucker.
How was Stacey/Lindsay/Leah most helpful?
Stacey, Lindsay, and Leah were wonderful! As you can see, we had an extremely large wedding party, 8 bridesmaids, two junior bridesmaids, and two flower girls…not even including the boys! Many of the girls are from out of state. Stacey, Lindsay, and Leah were so patient taking orders and making sure sizes were spot on. They were also great with the kids who wanted to try everything on! As far as a bride goes, they were fun to work with, calm, and most importantly – – they girls don’t pressure you. Stacey, Lindsay, and Leah also gave us great individual attention in all of our appointments.
Tips for brides when selecting their BM dresses? Bridal Gowns?
My only advice for a bride when selecting their bridesmaid dresses is that they should really go with what their heart tells them! I went with my favorite colors – -so I knew I couldn’t go wrong. Plus, the colors matched the season.
How was your experience at Flair?
My experience at Flair was amazing! My mother, sisters, and I took numerous trips to Boston to search for bridesmaid dresses, and nothing was unique or had the extra oomph that we wanted. When we walked into Flair, we were so excited to see different dresses that matched our theme perfectly. They also have a wide range of styles in different colors – – something that fits every body type.
Who designed your bridal gown?
Ana Hernandez out of Boston personally designed and sewed my dress!
Where did you get married?
Our wedding was at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Narragansett, RI. The reception was held at “The Towers” in Narragansett.
What three adjectives would best describe your wedding?
Fun, casual, and family-oriented.
What was your favorite moment at the wedding?
My favorite moment at the wedding was walking out of the church with Alex, as a newly married couple. The weather was sunny and beautiful, the church bells were ringing and we were just so excited to be married!
What advice can you give any other Boston/New England Bride?
My advice to other brides is to relax, take a deep breath, and use the help of your family and friends. Some of the planning can be a bit stressful… of course it’s time consuming, but try to laugh your way through it, and enjoy it!
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
We went to Oahu, Maui, Kaui, and stopped in San Francisco on the way back! It was awesome.
