Meet Frills!

Introducing…Frills!

Isn’t it funny how social media changes with you as you get older? In college, it was all about finding the best parties and posting song quotes that reflected your each and every mood. Come to think of it, Dashboard Confessional lyrics consumed a good 75% of my status updates in college. Anyways, moving on…as we got older, you’d start to see engagement and wedding photos take over social media. Now, I’m at the “babies and houses” phase. Every day there’s a new, adorable baby or covetable house to drool over. I was starting to feel a little left out. I’ve been married almost 3 (!!) years and in terms of a house, let me tell you, the market is TOUGH. So, what about me?? What can I throw in people’s faces to make them jealous (kidding!)? Well, it turns out I (and the rest of the Flair team) have a baby of sorts to announce; a business baby!

Almost 9 months ago (see…baby!) we started a project that would allow customers near and far to order products by fabulous designers that we’ve come to know and love over our years in the store. Let’s face it, we’re living in an increasingly online world, and Flair had to adapt. We LOVE our Newbury Street store and will never abandon the face to face customer interaction that we enjoy so much. However, we also needed to address the needs of those customers who just can’t make it to the Back Bay. So, Frills was born! At Frills, you can order a dress, a veil, jewelry, a tuxedo vest and even a custom bridal sketch! The list goes on and on! Basically, it’s for all of those fun, little details you get to think about AFTER you make the hard decisions. So grab a glass of champagne, sit on your couch (in sweatpants, we won’t judge) and shop for fabulous items without searching for parking or getting stuck in traffic. We can’t wait to see you there 🙂

Hey hey, settle down, we work weekends all fall and winter long, we deserve this 😉 So, take note of our holiday hours for next week below, and we look forward to seeing and speaking with you all when we get back on Tuesday July 8th!! Wine Country Wedding Wonder

Guys, we are OBSESSED with Southern New England Weddings. It is seriously one of the most beautifully put together wedding publications we’ve ever seen. Everyone at SNEW has a passion for weddings, and they work hard to produce a magazine that any and every New England bride can turn to for inspiration. There’s nothing we hate more than flipping through a magazine only to find that every idea is out of our fiscal reach. Another bummer? When we see an ad for a cake (cue drool) and then learn that the baker is located across the country. So, Southern New England Weddings is perfect for us! They take the time to feature products and ideas for all budgets, and they shout out all of the best local vendors. Speaking of which, this seems like a good time to segue into a sneak peek of the most recent shoot Flair did with SNEW. (See what I did there…best local vendors…Flair…duh). So sit back, relax, and take a nice, long sip of this delicious wine country themed shoot. Oh, and be sure to grab the newest issue of Southern New England Weddings to see the full spread and get the scoop on all of the fab wedding pros who also collaborated on this shoot! Cheers!

Aria Guest Trunk Show!

Welcome, Aria!

Here at Flair, we are SO excited about Summer! ::Insert obligatory “this winter was awful” comment here:: While that is true, that’s not the reason we’re excited. First of all, our fabulous brides are starting to get married and gorgeous wedding photos are beginning to roll in. Second, Flair’s summer features an amazing guest trunk show schedule. Next up: Aria!

Aria began over 10 years ago when owner/designer Tak Hau noticed a lack of modern, sophisticated designs for bridesmaids. Fast forward to today, and Aria has become a well-respected name in the bridesmaids’ world, and has also expanded to include bridal gowns, flowergirl dresses, men’s accessories and more! Even better, Aria is committed to making all of their garments in the US, with only the highest quality fabrics. We love Aria (and Tak, who is so kind) and are SO excited to share their designs with all of our brides! For this trunk show, we are featuring Aria’s beautiful bridal gowns. The first thing we noticed about Aria’s bridal gown collection is their diversity. There truly is something for everyone! Want some proof? Check out some of our favorite gowns below and give us a call to make an appointment to see these and more during our trunk show June 18th – 21st!

E.B. Horn – Your BFF in the Jewelry World

Attention everyone! We have a ground-breaking, hard-hitting news headline for you:

Flair loves jewelry!

Not that surprised? Yeah, we know, it’s a pretty obvious statement. Most of us girls are born with an innate love of all things sparkly. What’s not so obvious? Where to shop for your jewelry! There are so many options out there, and it can be overwhelming. After all, we have entire buildings in Downtown Crossing dedicated to jewelry vendors alone and most of them tend to feel a little intimidating. Are they going to push something really expensive on me? Are they going to understand what I’m looking for? Are they going to laugh at my budget? Put those fears aside because we can assure you that the kind, amazing folks at E.B. Horn are going to listen to you and understand all of your jewelry needs! They have something for everyone, and their staff truly loves to assist each and every customer find just what they are looking for. We love E.B. Horn so much that we’ve teamed up with them for an amazing sale!

E.B. Horn is offering Flair customers 25% off of their bridal party gifts AND Flair is offering E.B. Horn customers who have purchased an engagement ring, wedding band or bridal party gift a 30% discount on all of our accessories. Bottom line: you get to shop at two amazing, local businesses (tooting our own horn) AND save money at both. What could be better? So get out there and get shopping!

A White Tie Affair!

It’s that time of year again….our annual Met Gala recap!

We have to admit, last year’s punk theme left us a little disappointed BUT this year’s Met Gala theme of “white tie” left us drooling! Now THIS is the drama and glamour we have come to expect from fashion’s biggest night. Here are the trends that we caught:

1)      Deep V’s – For those of us without an ample bust, a Deep V is a comfortable yet sexy top to choose! It creates a nice, long line, giving the wearer a slim and sleek appearance. Need proof? Check out one of our favorites, Lea Michele, in Altuzarra. We all know she’s a teeny meeny, but this Deep V adds some length to her tiny frame. Gorgeous! Jessica Alba (in Diane Von Furstenberg) and Dianna Agron (in Miu Miu) also rocked this look to perfection!

Get the look at Flair with Amy Kuschel’s stunning Elle gown; it’s the perfect mix of timeless and sexy!

2)      Ballgowns – With a white tie theme, we knew there were going to be lots of dramatic ballgowns in the house! Some of our favorites included Sarah Jessica Parker in Oscar de la Renta (did you see his signature on the train – amazing!), and Hayden Panettiere in the amazing bridal designer, Dennis Basso. The gold medal in ballgowns goes to Karolina Kurkova in Marchesa though. Talk about a showstopper! We love the floral detail, which is totally on trend this season!

3)      White – Again, the white tie theme kinda gave this one away. White is always a classic, especially now that we’re into Spring. Victoria Beckham rocked a simple but stunning white dress of her own design (and her handsome hubby looked smokin’ hot in his white jacket) while Rhianna’s Stella McCartney ensemble showed us the edgier side of wearing white.

Get the look at Flair with Jenny Yoo’s gorgeous Vivienne gown. While white may seem like a given in a bridal shop, not every gown is available in a true, winter white like this one.

4)      Crop tops – We all know that crop tops are HUGE in ready to wear fashion this season, but we loved seeing them on the red carpet as well! Anne Hathaway looked classic and cool in Calvin Klein Collection and Anna Kendrick was young and modern in J. Mendel, but our favorite BY FAR was Emma Stone. The fashion darling looked absolutely stunning in her bold Thakoon ensemble. One of the best of the night!

Dimitrios Kambouris-Getty-Emma Stone-Thakoon

Get the look at Flair….well, we’re working on it! Crop tops haven’t made it to the bridesmaids’ world yet but you can DEFINITELY get those stunning shades of pink here 😉

5)      Zac Posen – Zac was definitely the designer to watch last night! He dressed tons of a-listers (Dita! Maggie Q! Arizona!), and even hit the carpet himself in a pretty amazing cape. We caught some themes in his designs, including the mermaid silhouette as well as belts and bows; all things we LOVE in the bridal world!

Get a Zac Posen approved look at Flair with Amy Kuschel’s Clover gown (check out that amazing, built in belt) and Pearl gown, which features a gorgeous fit and classic, bridal bow.

Until next year, fashionistas! xoxo

A Love Letter to Boston

A Love Letter to Boston

photo (2)

The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, the Red Sox are playing and Boylston Street is packed. It’s Marathon Monday in our home of Boston; our favorite day of the year. On this particular Patriot’s Day, it would be easy to stay home. It would be easy to watch the runners from the comfort of the couch. It would be easy to let last year’s events scare us away from the Back Bay. However, Bostonians have never done what is easiest. We love sports teams who are “cursed” and we suffer through what seems like an endless, grueling winter every year. Why do we do it? Because we see challenges for what they are; opportunities for growth. Our so-called “cursed” baseball team has gone on to win 3 World Series championships in the last 10 years. And winter? It’s not so bad. No matter how much snow and ice we may get, at some point the tulips will begin to pop up in the Public Garden, and Spring will arrive. That’s what life’s challenges are all about; remembering the tulips during the snow. Last year’s Marathon Monday was a day of despair, there’s no arguing that. But quickly, Bostonians turned that despair into hope, and that hope into strength. We’re stronger now than ever before, and there’s no better illustration of that than today’s packed finish line. We will not allow anyone to dull our shine, crush our spirit, or snow on our tulips.

Endless x’s and o’s to all Bostonians, those who live here and those who embody the Boston spirit all over the world.

The Future of Fashion

The Future of Fashion

Newsflash: All of the Flair girls love fashion and shopping. GASP! Are you shocked?! Of course, this is a pretty obvious statement…after all, we chose a job where we get to play with fashion and help people shop all day long! So, as you can imagine, we love to keep up with what’s new and hot in the industry. It’s part of our job after all! Lately, we’ve been so excited about the changes we’re seeing in the fashion world, namely in the way that we shop.

Have you heard of fashion trucks? Ladies…it’s like a food trunk but filled with fabulous clothes. Let that sink in for a minute. All of the fun, minus the calories! It’s fun and unique, and also allows the owner to reach a broader range of clients over a more widespread area. Shopper confession: sometimes I just can’t bring myself to step into a crowded store. The crazy fitting room lines, unorganized racks, nice clothes thrown on the floor…the retailer in me just can’t take it. But a cool, open truck that I can just hop right into off the sidewalk? Now that’s more my speed.

Beep beep, fashion coming through!

Beep beep, fashion coming through!

Another new shopping concept? The personal styling departments within most major department stores. I feel like a bad fashionista, I didn’t even know these existed until recently! Basically, department stores are hiring fashion experts to be on staff and at the ready to help customers find just the right pieces for them. Not sure what pants work best for your figure? Ask them! Guys, want to find just the right gift for your girl? Ask them! It’s such a cool concept and something anyone can take advantage of…most services are FREE!

Well, here at Flair we’re really inspired by all of the changes that we’re seeing in the fashion world and as a result, we have some exciting new ways to shop with US coming out soon, stay tuned 😉

TGIF and happy shopping this weekend, girls!!

Xoxo,
Your favorite Flair fashionistas

Are you a “bride of distinction?”

Are you a “bride of distinction?”

Planning a wedding often requires a leap of faith (or several). Take Flair, for example. We would love to have every dress color, size and style in the store, but we just don’t have room for them all. So, we ask you to take a leap of faith. Yes, we can get you that dress in your size and in the perfect color, but you can’t see it before you order it. We know, it’s not ideal, but hundreds of you take that leap every year. We hope that the reason you’re willing to do so is because you trust us. You’ve talked with us, spent some time in the store, and somewhere along the way you decided to believe us when we said that your dresses would come out perfectly (because they will!).

You have to take that same leap with a lot of your vendors:
“Sure, Mr. Florist, ranunculus mixed with billy buttons and hyacinth sounds great!” I think.
“Absolutely, Ms. Cake Artist, 4 layers of lavender fondant with sage accents will be gorgeous!” I hope.

It can be scary, but if you choose great vendors they will never steer you wrong! There are some such vendors, though, who realize how stressful those leaps of faith can be, so they’re working together to give you a better preview of your big day. It’s the fabulous Omni Hotel’s “Brides of Distinction” bridal brunch and fashion show! Anyone who is interested in booking the hotel for their wedding (or even those who already have) can come to their ballroom for brunch and see it set up in all of its gorgeous, wedding day splendor. Plus, there will be several cake styles to view (and taste!) from Montilio’s Bakery, gorgeous linens, chairs and more from Rentals Unlimited, amazing centerpieces by Madison Floral…the list goes on and on! Also, the uber-talented Person and Killian Photography will be there to document the entire, fun filled event. Oh, and did we mention that Flair is running the fashion show? Duh! We want you to see some of our favorite styles on models, working it in the ballroom, so that you can really imagine them on your big day. Plus, our models will have gorgeous hair by Bella Hair Studio and makeup by Dani Wagener Beauty, so you know they will be looking stunning! Plus, there are tons of fabulous giveaways…and mimosas. Have we convinced you yet? If so, click here for all of the info. We hope to see you there!

The Great Accessories Debate

The Great Accessories Debate

Let’s relive, for a moment, a memorable day in 2008. You’re in a packed church, the sun is shining, Brody is still dating Jade, Justin Bobby cut his hair and OMG is that Kristin Cavallari?! Yes, everyone, we are journeying back to “The Hills” for Spencer and Heidi’s wedding. I got sucked into a Hills marathon recently and about 8 hours later (don’t judge me, you know you’ve lost a whole day to that train wreck too) Heidi and Spencer’s big day was upon me once again. Now, being a wedding professional, I looked at that episode in a whole new way. Forget the LC and Kristin drama…look at that DRESS! I must admit, Heidi’s gown had it all; it was gorgeous, classy, elegant and impeccably tailored. True to Heidi form though, she couldn’t leave well enough alone and she piled on enough bling for FIVE brides. For me personally, it was over the top and took away from her soft, romantic gown. What did you think?

Ahh the good old days...

Ahh the good old days…

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter what I think, and shockingly enough, Heidi did not call to ask my opinion. For that reason, all brides should take a page from her book (but probably only that page, don’t even look at her chapters on men or plastic surgery). She did what she wanted and was true to herself, which is how every bride should approach her accessories decision (and really any wedding related decision).

No matter what you decide, we’re pretty sure our fabulous accessories designer, A.B. Ellie, will have something for you! Her gorgeous accessories range from bling-tastic to soft and simple. Not seeing exactly what you want? She’s always open to tweaking her designs to suit your individual taste and style. We are obsessed with her; every Flair consultant who has gotten married (so far) has had some A.B. Ellie gorgeousness with her on her big day. So, give us a call to stop by and drool over her pieces with us. There’s something for all of the Heidi’s, LC’s, Kristin’s and Audrina’s out there!
