Wedding Tiaras

A modern take on the classic look!

On her wedding day, every bride should feel like a princess. Don’t lift a finger, have everyone fawn all over you, get dressed up…yeah, princesses and brides totally have the life! They have alot of fun things in common in the wardrobe department, too; a grand dress, perfectly styled hair, and killer shoes, to name a few. However, one classic princess accessory has gone somewhat by the wayside in the bridal world in recent years. Tiaras used to be the ultimate in special occasion wear but somewhere along the way I think brides started to find them a little, well…dated and over the top. Lucky for all of the wanna-be princesses out there, though, today there are tons of fresh, modern ways for brides to rock this look:
1) Flower crowns – I know, we’re getting dangerously close to these being over-done, but they’re just so darn pretty that we couldn’t leave them off of the list! They’re the perfect casual counterpart to the typical gilded style.
2) A lace headband – Alot of what makes most tiara styles a little “much” is their over the top sparkle. It can be a little heavy-handed, especially for a more laid back bride/wedding. Swap in lace in place of some crystals, though, and you automatically turn down the volume and create a more mellow, current look.
3) Fascinators – From one princess look to another! Fascinators are a chic, cool way to update the tiara look, and add a touch of Kate Middleton to your bridal style!

When in doubt, check out Elizabeth Bower’s crown collection! Every piece is GORGE, so you can’t go wrong! All of these beauties are sure to wow and will make any hairstyle wedding ready!

Wedding Hair Accessories

Add some chic to your coiffure!

Welp, it has finally happened. Winter has arrived. We got off easy for awhile, but there’s no denying it now. As much as I tried to be annoyed, secretly I was happy to see the flakes fall this week. I probably won’t be singing the same tune after a few more weeks of this, but for now the snow just seems to have added some much needed sparkle to the world. It got me to thinking about something that adds sparkle to a bride’s world; her hair accessories! I love a good bridal headpiece. We’re used to wearing jewelry on a daily basis, but it’s not often that you get the excuse to adorn your tresses with some bling, too. So, make sure you do it right! Here’s how:
Marry your dress and headpiece – If your gown has bling, you’ll want to make sure the sparkle on your headpiece matches accordingly. If your dress has crystals with a gold tone/setting, for example, try to find the same for your hair accessory. Or, if your gown is heavier on the pearls, focus your headpiece search on those with pearls, too. If your gown is bling-free, that leaves the door wide open, though; do whatever you like!

Consider your hair – Not every headpiece works with every hair type. Heavier styles, for example, work best with thicker hair that can really hold them in place. On the other hand, if you have thin hair you might want to stick with more delicate pieces that won’t overpower your locks. If you’re considering adding some extensions, just make sure your stylist puts them in nice and tight, so that your headpiece doesn’t accidentally loosen them.

Give it a thorough inspection – Your photographer is going to catch you from all angles, so be sure you like the placement/look of your headpiece from the front, back and sides. You don’t want to find out when you get your proofs that your accessory gave you a cone head look in all of your side shots! In the same breath, you also don’t want to find that it gets lost in some angles. After all, you worked hard to find your piece, so make sure you can properly show it off! Have your hairstylist try it in a few spots to see what you like best.

When in doubt, schedule a half-hour accessories appointment with Flair and we’re happy to help you find your perfect piece!

Wedding Veil Alternatives

Find the perfect piece for you!

If we had to sum up all of the weddings we’ve worked with over the years, we could do it with just four simple words: no two are alike. It’s fascinating to us; we meet with hundreds of brides every wedding season and each somehow manages to create this day that is totally unique and special. Even aspects of the wedding that may seem fixed have some flexibility and opportunities for personalization these days. Wedding cake seems like a given, but nowadays couples are mixing it up to better suit their tastes; an ice cream sundae bar, warm chocolate chip cookies, etc. Even the idea of a wedding dress has expanded and changed over the years. Shorter hemlines, colors, and even pants are making their way down today’s aisles. The same goes for the wedding veil. While long, gauzy veils used to be the standard, today the options are endless and there’s truly something to suit every bride and every style. If you’re looking to do something a little different with your veil, here are some of our favorite ideas:

Hair Vines and Headbands – Let’s face it, the veil is just another way to set the bride apart and make her look all fancy and formal, and a little sparkle can always accomplish that task! While she’s not a bride, Elizabeth Banks rocking this amazing headpiece at the recent “Hunger Games” premiere totally reminded us just how WOW a gorgeous, well placed headband can be! If you’re looking for something even more modern and unique, try a hair vine. Flexible and adorned with combs, this contemporary headpiece can be adjusted to perfectly fit in with any hair style!

Fascinators – The royal wedding may have happened over four years ago, but we’re still kinda obsessed with it. One of the biggest takeaways for us was how amazing fascinators are! They are the perfect combination of vintage yet modern, chic yet classic. For the bride who really wants to stand out, this is the perfect veil alternative!

Lace – There are far more ways to wear lace besides just on the edge of your veil. After all, lace is the quintessential bridal fabric, so you might as well rock is as much as you can! Lace adorned combs, headbands, and other accessories are perfectly bridal and totally worthy of ditching the veil.

Of course, wearing nothing at all is another perfectly acceptable option! The bottom line is, when it comes to your wedding veil, and really all aspects of your wedding, do what you like! Don’t get caught up in traditions and what you think you have to do. Make your wedding day truly YOU!
