To Market We Go: 2012 Edition!

Sorry this blog is coming about a week late Stacey and I have been exhausted from all our travel and excitement! Two  weeks ago we traveled to NYC for bridal market to check out the newest styles from our designers. Yes you read that right, we worked ALL weekend. We went to fashion shows and chatted with our fabulous designers/friends and shopped on 5th Avenue. It…was…awful.

JK, it was amazing!! It’s seriously one of our favorite weekends of the year, for two reasons. 1) We LOVE our designers and this is the one time a year we get to see them in person. Yes, it’s fun to see their new dresses, but it is equally fun just catching up with them. 2) We LOVE our brides/bridesmaids and we literally cannot wait to show you the new dresses, you’re going to be obsessed with them! While we don’t want to give away TOO much (the new samples will not be here until after the New Year), here are some fresh, new trends we saw for the upcoming season!

1)      Straps on bridal gowns: The time has come ladies. We’ve been asking for more strapped bridal gowns for years and this is the first year where we really saw a good amount in the new collections. V-necks, cap sleeves, and halters, oh my!

2)      Printed bridesmaids’ dresses: We are sosososo excited for this one. Doing a print on a bridesmaid’s dress is so fresh and modern, and makes for really unique and special photos. Not ready to come around to something so outside the box? Think one print, one textured fabric and one solid, all in the same color way. Google Molly Sims’ bridal party and that’ll give you a gorgeous example. Not all of the bridesmaids need to be in the pattern, but it’s a great accent to solid dresses’. VERY fun!

3)      Sherbet: First things first, is it sherbet or sherbert? I always thought it was sherbert but the computer disagrees; the red squiggly line underneath – indicating a misspelling – is really bugging me, so I’ll say sherbet from here on out. Anywaysssssss sherbet colors are going to be HUGE! We saw pale colors take the front seat this year (think blush and champagne) but cool greens and flattering oranges may just steal their spots next year. Stay tuned to see them in person!

4)      Tea length bridal gowns: This trend has been slowly creeping up on us. The past few years we have seen 1 or 2 at market but this year it EXPLODED. Every designer had some shorter options, but have no fear, they are still totally bridal looking! Plus, this is a great way to get a gorgeous dress at a lower price AND you don’t have to worry about bustling a train (definitely nice for outdoor weddings).

I could go on and on, we saw SO many amazing dresses! Stay tuned in early 2013 to see them in person!

Brides of Distinction!

The year is 1991, the place, my childhood bedroom. There’s excitement in the air as Teddy Ruxpin takes his place at the front of the audience of troll dolls. Ken joins the bear up front, looking as stoic as ever. Barbie comes around the corner in her fabulous, white wedding dress, complete with enormous puffy sleeves and lace turtleneck; the epitome of understated elegance. Then and there, with my goldfish bearing witness and the honorable Ruxpin presiding, Ken and Barbie pledge their love to one another. There’s not a dry eye in the house.

This, my friends, is how most of us spent our childhood days (atleast I hope it wasn’t just me, right??). We dreamt about our wedding day and made fake plans, with zero regard to budget mind you. That being said, it’s OK if you find you still need some inspiration when it comes time to actually plan your big day. Even I’ll admit that some of my 1991 ideas did not come to fruition for my 2011 wedding. Apparently Joey McInitre was just too busy to be my Justice of the Peace. C’mon, priorities Joe.

So, when the time comes that you get proposed to and you can finally plan your real wedding, I highly recommend attending the Brides of Distinction fashion show and Brunch at the Omni Parker House for some inspiration. While you sit and enjoy a delicious brunch catered by the Omni, wedding experts will dish on what’s hot in weddings this year (for example, the editor of “The Knot” will be there, and you know she knows a thing or two). Plus, you’ll get to taste some gorgeous cakes, discover what flowers are perfect for your season and see some of the wide, wide array of linen and table setting options (who knew there were so many different kinds of ivory linens??). Oh and we will be there too, showing off some gorgeous bridal gowns and bridesmaids’ dresses! Peak your interest? Contact the Omni ASAP for tickets, because they are running out quickly! We would love to see you there! Barbies and troll dolls welcome as well!

Get inspired by “Pinterest”

There are many reasons why I am jealous of 2012 brides. As many of you fellow 2011 brides can probably attest, the year after you get married is super fun and all buuuuuuut also filled with some wedding withdrawals. Planning the wedding takes up so much of your time and energy and then afterwards you’re left trying to figure out what to do with all of that extra time. Well, one of the things that I’ve been doing to fill my time is going on Pinterest….constantly. As my husband eloquently put it “you’re on that website a lot.” Yes honey, I am. I am designing our future home, dressing our future kids and planning interesting meals to cook for you, so I’ve kinda got my hands full here.

Sorry, I got a little off topic there. Circling back around, Pinterest is another reason why I am jealous of 2012 brides. It is literally the best way to organize all of your fab wedding ideas. See a flower bouquet online that you like? Pin it! Then, bring any device with internet access to your meeting with your florist and BOOM they can see it quickly and easily. It is crazy that only one short year ago I was bringing torn out magazine photos to my meetings. Ugh, that’s so 2011.

So, check out Flair on Pinterest to steal some of our amazing ideas and get yourself started. Like me, I’m sure you’ll be neglecting your fiancé/husband in no time (sorry hubby, but really I’m doing it for our future)!

Happy Pinning!

Let them eat……not cake!

As I was making my grocery list this week, I realized how boring that I am. I get the same things every week. My husband and I have quesadillas every Thursday night, for example, and I bring the same lunch to work every day. So I said to myself “Self, it is time to shake things up!” I have some peanut butter left over from my insane non-perishable food shopping spree to prepare for Irene, so I decided to use that and spread it on rice cakes as a new lunch idea. OK, I know I am no Wolfgang Puck but it is a bold move for this boring grocery goer (who tries to eat really healthy during the week)!

All of this grocery business got me thinking about ways to shake up the old wedding cake routine. Granted, it is and probably always will be the most popular wedding dessert, but there have to be other options. With a little google action (and a few ideas from my own dessert loving brain) I found a few fab alternatives!

1)      Wedding barista: OK, so offering coffee at your wedding isn’t new, but imagine having a serious barista there making cappuccinos, lattes, hot chocolate and more. How impressive would that be?! Plus, the way I like coffee it’s basically a dessert in itself…

2)      Caramel and Candy apples: Since it’s October, I couldn’t resist this option. It’s perfect for fall weddings and honestly who doesn’t love those messy things? Plus, the food pyramid tells us that we need several servings of fruit a day so this is actually a really healthy and responsible choice. OK, that might be a stretch…

3)      Cake pops: Don’t want to leave the dance floor to sit down and have a full piece of cake? Have no fear! Cake pops are an adorable alternative consisting of a round bit of cake, covered in chocolate and then stuck on a stick; looks like a lollipop, tastes like cake. They’re portable, clean and delicious! Plus they’re so small you can eat like 12 and not feel guilty.

4)   Ice cream truck: The little ice cream truck jingle makes us all feel like kids again, and who doesn’t need that every once and awhile? So, later in the night have an ice cream truck pull up outside your venue and have your guests choose from classic treats that will take them back in time.

Happy sweets hunting!

XOXO

Lindsay

To stalk or not to stalk…

(This picture in no way reflects how Lindsay actually looks/feels)

My wedding is less than a month away and I estimated to my fiancé last night that I am currently 70% crazy. Here’s hoping I make it to July 23rd without reaching a full 100% crazy level. The end of the planning process is the worst part by far. You’re getting so excited for the day to come but you have 1,000,000 little things standing in your way. Gone are the days of fun cake tastings and trying on pretty dresses. Now I’m left with planning the seating chart (ugh), paying final deposits and waiting not so patiently for RSVPs to come back.

Learn from me, Flair friends, and send your invites out as soon as humanly acceptable. Give your guests plenty of time to send their responses, because you know you’re going to have a bunch that push past your deadline. At our deadline we had no less than 20 unanswered RSVPs (a lot considering we only sent a little over 100 invites total). What is wrong with you people?? Don’t you know I’m going crazy enough without having to stalk you for a response? Don’t you know my wedding is going to be ultra fab? Why isn’t your immediate response YES YES and YES?? OK, tirade over.

When the time came to start stalking our respective guests my fiancé was hesitant. “Babe, do we have to?” “Babe, I know ____ is coming without asking.” Sigh, silly boys. It is 100% acceptable to reach out to your guests and ask them for a response. It shows an effort on your part. That way, if they miss the final deadline (i.e. the day you have to send final numbers to your venue) you can atleast say that you reached out and tried. It’s going to be hard to say no to someone who asks to come after that deadline but your hands will be tied and free of guilt. There can be no “Well I misread the date to respond” or any other excuse. We called you, you were slow, so now you have to miss out on the party of the century. OK, I might say it a bit nicer than that, it all depends on my crazy level at the time.

Stay sane summer 2011 brides, our day is almost here!!

Wear it Again……Summer Lovin!

You seriously cannot get much cuter than the Jenny Yoo “Phoebe” dress!

I have been swooning over this dress since Jenny Yoo posted an awesome Blog about a bridal party that wore the Phoebe Dress and added 1 inch straps….so, I decided to not be original and order the exact same dress in the exact same color!!

Perfect for your adorable bridesmaids!

I  re-worn the Phoebe dress for a day at work or a evening summer cocktail party! So Cute! The great part about adding the 1 inch straps….I can tuck them in and it is still a fabulous strapless dress!

As we continue to tell you…..you can re-wear your bridesmaids dresses!

Loves it…..we hope you do too!

XOXO
